MUTUAL FEELINGS

Chapter 2: DOCTOR ROBBY

Summary:

Doctor Robby's era as doctorvedder is behind him (or so he thought). After the events of 2020, his attempts on making a different life for himself outside of the PTMC are all but forgotten. Especially since what happened to you. Well, what he did to you. Sometimes, he still thinks about you. Most times, he puts you away. Though you always linger. Never really gone. Sickeningly, Robby might prefer it that way. He won't ever admit it, though. Somewhere in the darkest pit of his mind, he thought about what could be. What happens if the chances of that are not slim to none? Could he handle it?

or

Doctor Robby is confronted with his past.

Chapter Text

October 31st, 2025

You were in your office at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. There is supposed to be a Halloween Party tonight in the museum, something about making a variety of events to attract the masses. You don't even know. They are trying to make a sort of Night at The Museum experience and honestly? It tickled you. The sheer ridiculousness of it all, but then again, what can you do? As long as people are having fun and the museum visitor satisfaction numbers are up, that's all that matters.

You've accepted the job last year. Part of the curatorial team at the Carnegie Museums. One of the head curators here handling all the exhibitions and subsequent related programs. The pay was good. The accommodation is lovely. Plus, you really need to get away from New York. It was a dream to be a part of The American Museum of Natural History, but it was also the place you met William. After the divorce last year, you really do not want to be in the same place with the same group of people who knew all about you and him. Within 3 months of the divorce being finalized, you took the leap and here you are in Pittsburgh.

Which is also where Mike is. At least where you know him to be at last you heard or... try to hear from him. Is it the reason why you took this job? You'd be lying if you say you didn't think of him when the offer landed on your desk. Does he still work in the same hospital? Is he even in Pittsburgh? After everything, you wouldn't fault him for running away. From what little you know about Dr Adamson, you knew the man was important to Mike. Mike once said Dr Adamson was the man who taught him everything and anything he knows about being a good doctor and that if it wasn't for him, Mike wouldn't be as capable as he is perceived to be. So, yeah, you assumed if anything, it would be logical for him to run away somewhere else. Just like you did after the disaster of a marriage that you once had.

It's not like it was your fault. Not entirely at least. What can you actually do when your body does not cooperate the way you wanted it to be? William wanted kids, you also wanted that. But your body said it wasn't going to be a journey of sunshine or rainbows. Turns out, it was too much for William and instead of manning up to you, he sought the company of another. The humiliation came not because the marriage didn't work, but because it was ended due to the fact that the other managed to get themselves knocked up, apparently 4 months into the sexcapades. While you can't even manage to produce so much as a hope in the near 2 years you've been together. It was too humiliating, so you ran.

You sighed as you sipped your coffee. The interns and juniors are currently working on the Halloween preparations outside. You were supposed to be there in a bit, just to supervise and note down what things are actually fitting for the occasion and what things are not. That can wait a bit. Besides, those kids are having fun in this rather 'free' time. You get it. So, you let them be for a moment. Which leads to the fact that you are high up in your head, thinking about things that you really should have let go a long time ago. You kind of did when you had that little period called marriage, but then what?

You wonder if Mike ever came back to Tumblr. You yourself have been there sparingly. Sometimes when you are bored, you'd scroll and read some fan fiction. Reblog some posts. And yet, his is still the same.

doctorvedder reblogged eddiesmumbles - March 13 2020.

Which probably means he never saw the messages you left.

You knew he probably deleted your contact or blocked you or changed his number. You knew there was no hope in the texting department. So, Tumblr really is your only hope. The thing about online relations whether it's strictly friendship, something more, or even somewhat of a grey area the way you and Mike used to be is that you may know some of the most intimate parts about each other yet you have no idea where the hell he works or what his entire full name is. You weren't any better with the information you provided him. It was a good few years, but it wasn't enough to the point that you can find him easily online. As far as your sleuthing goes, there wasn't a single social media profile that was even remotely close to what you could decipher as potentially Mike. That man has no trace and it was smart on his part in general, frustrating on yours.

The same cannot be said about you. You are pretty much active on at least two other platforms. Instagram and Twitter. You refuse to call it X, thank you very much. So, if he wanted to, he could have found you. Plus, your name is displayed on the Carnegie Museums directory of curators online. So, really, you are easily found.

With all of that in mind, unfortunately, you opened your Tumblr app and pathetically went through your messages thread with Tumblr user doctorvedder. One that you kept alive (is it even that?) by yourself. You scrolled up and down to different dates randomly, just to read them absentmindedly. Hoping for a miracle? You don't even know anymore.

eddiesrailings: I just finalized my divorce. I know you are not here so I am using this as a way to just... fuck, I don't know. I just need to say it somewhere. You are not going to read it anyway so don't even... fuck I just finalized my fucking divorce. Fuck him. I hate him. I hate what he did to me. I wanna run the fuck away. Far from New York. I have to.

August 12 2024

eddiesrailings: I got a new job. It's in Pittsburgh. If you read this at all... perhaps you want to know. If not, well...'

September 5 2025

eddiesrailings: Hope you are okay today. Grief settles and it's okay. You will be alright. Sending you good wishes always.

eddiesrailings: fuck. I heard what happened at Pittfest. I hope everything is okay where you work, if you are still there. Sending you good vibes. It couldn't have been easy.

You shook your head as you scrolled away and closed the app. "This is so sad, what the hell." You muttered to yourself as you pocketed your phone and stood up from your office chair. You grabbed your coffee cup and made your way out. Time to check on those kids.

"Dana, what do we got?" Robby asked as he ran a hand through his hair, looking up to the screen where it seems like the names are adding up every time instead of decreasing.

"63 year old male with respiratory problems in South 16. Came here with his daughter." Dana said as she gave Robby the tablet.

He sighs. "Alright..." He said as he turned to Santos and motioned with his finger to her to come with him. "You're with me, come on." Robby said as he led Santos to where the patient was.

Robby walked in, a practiced smile on his face as he drew the curtain back and greeted the patient and his family. He ordered Santos to do the preliminary checks to rule out concerning results. He consults Santos to make sure she did the right thing. Robby listened as Santos listed the diagnostic treatment to do. Including CBC and X-Ray. He nodded in agreement. "Pulse Oxy and ECG, yep." Robby repeated what Santos said before he excused himself out of the room and gave the table to Santos. "All yours, Trinity." Robby said before he tapped her shoulder lightly and walked away.

It's the 31st of October. It's bound to be hectic and busy. Just like the 4th of July, Halloween is quite the hazardous holiday, naturally. So, it didn't surprise Robby, sadly, that the damn monitor kept adding more patients and the beds just kept on filling up. It's just one of those times of the year, he guessed. Except that those times of the year for him seemed to be everyday.

He ran a hand through his hair and checked the time on his watch. It's almost 2 PM. He hadn't consumed any lunch. He considered it for a moment, looked around, and sighed as he made up his mind. "Dana," Robby said as he made his way to the hub. Squirting a good amount of hand sanitizer as he did. Dana looked up from the patient chart she was looking at, an eyebrow raising as she anticipated what Robby wanted to say. "I'm gonna take 10. I'll be in the break room. Please let Shen do whatever he needs if something comes up. Call me when it is absolutely necessary." He said. Taking advantage of the fact that Shen, a fellow attending, is working doubles today.

Dana smiled understandingly in that unique way of hers. Nodding along. "I got you. And I'm surprised you even asked. The one person who needed it most." She said with that mature understanding. Robby huffed a little and waved her off. "I owe you." He said. "You owe me tons, Robinavitch. I'm waiting for the day you actually pay up!" She said with a smug to her tone. Robby just rolled his eyes affectionately before he walked away and made his way towards the break room.

He's actually got something stored in the fridge earlier. Left over pasta he did last night, a rare occurrence for himself to cook, but he was feeling it somehow. Just one of those days he randomly got the urge and motivation, he guessed. He took the container out of the fridge once he got in the break room. He heated it up in the microwave and sat down letting it cool a bit. He opened up his phone and actually opened the Tumblr app.

Yes. He has it. All these years.

Why? He's not sure.

He also has the Instagram and Twitter app.

Why? He's also not sure.

Lies. He knows exactly why.

It explains the actions he's currently doing. Tapping the messages tab and opening it.

Eddiesrailings

Clicked on it. And he began reading.

The last message you ever sent him was last month. The day it all went down. Pittfest. His breakdown. Everything. He almost broke it, you know. He almost responded. Alone in his living room apartment after the beer he had in the park with the others. Crying by himself. He almost actually let you know that he read it all.

When you said that he's probably not there? Oh, he's always there. He reads everything. He won't admit it, but there's a sick feeling of satisfaction he gets when he knows he's got messages from you. He's got his notifications on for you. He knew of William. He hated that you moved on at first, but then he remembered how you deserved more than him. How he had done all of this to stop anything from ever happening. So, he wished you nothing but the best with William. He saw the pictures you posted and later deleted on Instagram. It's not like he's stalking (he absolutely is), but your profile is public. Could he be blamed? He doesn't think so. Unfortunately, he also knew about the breakdown messages you left after the divorce. He never hated anyone else more than William at that moment. But then again, is he any different?

He never responded. He is convinced that he never will.

He knew you're in Pittsburgh. He knew where you work. It's hard not to when he can find your picture online on the Carnegie Museum website. Carnegie Museums are not that far away. But Presby and Mercy are both near the museums and he hoped you would have gone to either of them shall you need it. He avoided the area near the Carnegie Museums like the plague ever since he found out about your job. He's not sure why he still ran away from you. He could have done something, he could have tried to make it up to you. You're here now. Closer than ever.

You both used to talk about plans of meeting up.

Maybe in New York. Maybe here in Pittsburgh.

You used to talk about what you two would do if you met up. The dates you would have gone to together. The very adult thing it would result into. Probably at his place since you wouldn't have to stay in a hotel if you ever visit him in Pittsburgh. Robby thought of how it would feel like to have you in his arms back then. He still does sometimes, but he buried it away. Like he doesn't deserve to even have you in his mind. After everything. After what he decided to do five years ago.

"Mikey, do you think I could visit you at work if I come to Pittsburgh?" You said as you chewed on a bar of chocolate. The way you chew straight from the bar instead of breaking it to its squared pieces baffled him, but he enjoys watching you and your quirks so he let it slide.

Robby chuckled. "It's not like I work in a museum, honey. I work in the ED. You have to actually get sick to get there." He said as he chewed on a granola bar. It's his day off today and instead of going out, he scheduled a video call with you.

You just cackled and shrugged. "I don't know, maybe I'd have a stomach bug or stab my arm with a pencil-"

"Absolutely do not stab yourself-"

"or maybe I can fake a flu-"

"They'll know-"

"Or just say that Doctor Mike is waiting for me for a check up or something..." You said with an amused smile.

"They'll think you're looking for that youtube doctor..." Robby joked as he sipped his water and smiled sweetly at you.

"I didn't know real doctors watch youtube doctors..." You said with your smile hardly ever leaving your face.

"Doctor Mike on youtube is an actual doctor, you know." Robby said with an amusing conviction, as if defending his fellow doctor is his duty.

"You're the only Doctor Mike that matters anyway." You shrugged like it was obvious and Robby is oh-so-fucked because why did he feel his heart flip at that?

"Hey, Mikey?" You called

"Hm?" Robby hummed in response

"What do you think we'll do if we ever meet in person?" She asked softly.

"You mean... like... like a date?"

"Like, anything. A date could be one of them..." You answered, clearly trying to keep your cool. Robby found it adorable, really, so he decided to let his imagination run free. Because yeah, what would he do? What could he possibly do for this wonderful woman if he were ever to be graced with her presence?

"Well... I'd take you to the Carnegie Museums maybe... It's close to where I work, anyway and uh, the Natural History one is cool, the Art one is also cool, we'll just... I don't know, maybe talk and get some snacks and maybe I'll bring you away for lunch and then we'll go back to my place-"

"Your place, huh?" You smirked in amusement as you interrupted Robby.

"Yeah I mean... I wouldn't let you stay in a hotel now, would i?" He asked with an air of confidence and a boyish smile with the crows feet  adorning his eyes.

"True, true. A lot of savings for my budget."

"Exactly. So then, we can do whatever in my place and-"

"Whatever?" You said and if it wasn't for the pixelated screen, he's sure that you're blushing.

"Yeah, whatever." Robby said with an air of playfulness that you found attractive. "Ah, hell, we're adults. You know what whatever means cause you'll be sleeping on my bed anyway and-"

"Oh, will I?" You chuckled and it was music to his ears.

"Yes. I don't have a guest room, sweetheart." He winked, actually winked, and laughed.

"I'm actually excited about that for some reason."

"I could think of why, sweets." Robby said with a hint of a smirk.

"Oh yeah, and why is that?"

"Well, the bed is a dead giveaway because it leads to what I plan to do next which is-"

The break room door opened abruptly. "Doctor Robby, they're looking for you." Whitaker said with a sheepish look on his face but determined to get his attending to come out. He looked around before he settled back on the Chief Attending's face. Observing how he was seemingly deep in thought over something while his food container stayed open in front of him.

"Uh, yeah, okay... Let me get a couple more bites and I'll be out there." Robby said as he shoved a mouthful of pasta after sobering himself up from whatever nostalgic daydream he got stuck on after scrolling through old messages from you while eating his lunch. Whitaker nodded and closed the door as he made his way back outside.

Robby sighed and rubbed a hand over his face, closing the container lid and putting it back in the fridge. He adjusted his hoodie over his scrubs and placed his stethoscope back around his neck. Opening the break room door, he straightened himself as he made his way out. Outside, he was immediately bombarded with his residents, interns, and med students for consults and opinions. He attended to them one by one, following them to their respective cases, just like he was supposed to. Doctor Robby is back on his show. He went from one room to another. First going over a couple patients in Central, then to South, before Shen took over for west and north.

By the time it was quarter to four, Robby was checking lab results from one of Mohan's elderly patients. After clearing them for blood pressure medications, he went over to yet another bed in South. The X-Ray for the 63 year old male from earlier came back showing infections in his lung. "Antibiotics?" Santos asked as she looked up to him. "Yep. What kind?" Robby questioned as he scrolled through the lab results.

"Ceftriaxone?"

Robby nodded. "And?"

"Azythromicin?"

He nodded once more and gave the tablet over to Santos.

"You got this. Call me if there's anything more." He said as he made his way out and back to the hub. Sighing once again as he rubbed the back of his neck before cracking it a bit.

"Robby," Dana called from his right. Clearly with yet another case for him to take a look.

"In the flesh, yep, give me another one," he plainly responded as he turned to face Dana. The charge nurse scoffed and rolled her eyes with affectionate amusement.

"40 year old female, injured her wrist, fell down from a step ladder trying to fix a Halloween decoration, transferred over to us from Presby because they're backed up-"

Robby sighed. "Is this the only transfer?" He asked.

"Don't know yet, but there was something about system error in Presby and they are transferring low risk patients to nearby hospitals." Dana responded before giving him the tablet. He took it and didn't rush to read the details, the first mistake.

"South 19!" Dana informed him as Robby waved her off with obvious gratitude and made his way to said patient.

Whitaker was already there it seems as Robby could hear him talk to the patient.

"Yes, ma'am. We're just waiting for our attending to check and we will get to the next course of action shortly," Whitaker said before he turned around and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Oh hey, Dr Robby, this is our patient," Whitaker introduced the patient by her last name. Robby stopped in his steps, he had not yet opened the curtains, but he was taken aback. Could it be- no.

He cleared his throat and stood behind the curtain still as it was half opened, listening to Whitaker's presentation about the case and when he was done, Robby took a deep breath. His heart was racing and he hoped to the Gods and whatever else above that this wasn't who he thought it is-

Whitaker drew back the curtains, "This is our attending, Dr Robby, and he will check you over ma'am, just to make sure and-"

"Mikey...?" You muttered as your eyes landed on him standing on the foot of your bed.

Robby found himself unable to respond. His eyes immediately went to you, then to the tablet, which he really should have read before he even stepped over here, and back to you again.

He cleared his throat as his demeanour changed. Straightened himself and got his doctor face on as the kids would say about him. He ignored your disbelief and walked straight to your bedside. Checking your hand. Whitaker awkwardly stood by, watching the both of you. You looked up at Robby, your heart rate spiking up due to the fact that he is literally here in the flesh.

"Mike-"

"Can you make a fist?" He asked

You were taken aback but then did what he told you to do, although with a struggle. He nodded quietly and then went to check some more.

"Pain scale from 1-10?" He asked

"6."

"When you move your hand?" He asked again

You tried and hissed a little bit. It's swelling too.

"I'd say an 8." You said with a gulp as you tried to look into his eyes but he kept looking away.

He nodded and sighed before he spoke again. "Did you feel lightheaded on the step ladder?"

"Uh no-"

"Did you eat today?"

"Yes, I did-"

"How did you fall down?"

"I was helping my interns put up some decorations, got on the step ladder and tried to glue gun an ornament, miscalculated my steps. Fell down, my wrist bore the brunt of it all." You explained, trying to contain whatever feeling is bubbling up inside you. Anger? Excitement? Disappointment? Irritation? You don't even know anymore.

Robby sighed. Pinching the upper part of his nose before he turned over to Whitaker. "CBC, CMP, BMP just to rule out stuff. X-Ray but don't rule out CT because of the pain. Report to me directly. It's your case but I want to be briefed for every update. Also, get somebody to give her water and the sandwich." Robby said as he turned to Whitaker.

"Okay, doctor Robby, I'll order everything." Whitaker said as he nodded and looked between you and Michael, who apparently is known as Robby here

"Mike-"

Robby was about to leave when he ordered Whitaker what to do. "Call me when the results are up and-"

"For God's sake, Michael!" You shouted and breathed deeply. Looking at Robby with such anger now. You are trying to hold it together but the way he ignored you really got on your nerves. How dare he?

Robby stopped walking and took a deep breath. Whitaker was taken aback and looked at Robby for directions. His eyes wide as he looked between you and him, trying to decide if this should be reported or not.

"Doctor Robby-" He began

"Leave and close the door. Do not make it a big deal." Robby said to him. Giving him a look that says he should keep his mouth shut and order the treatments needed when he makes his way out.

"O-okay, Doctor Robby. I... uh, I'll go and-"

"Just go, Whitaker." Robby said and he nodded. Scurrying away, closing the curtain and the door.

Robby looked down, his back still facing you as he tried to take another deep breath.

"Are you done running away?" You asked with a quiver in your voice.

Robby sighed and slowly turned around.

"Ignoring me online for years is one thing, but here? meeting me in the flesh? and acting like I don't exist? That's insane, Mike." You said while barely holding your emotion.

Robby finally looked up and looked you in the eyes. He called for your name with such devastation.

"I am just being your doctor and-"

"Really? Oh my God, Mike. Really?" You asked in disbelief as you straightened your posture on the bed and shook your head. "Jesus Christ..."

"We can't..." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "We can't talk about it here. Nobody here knows about-"

You scoffed and looked away. "Yeah, I gathered-"

"No, please. I swear. I will explain, I will talk, I will do whatever you want me to do but not here. I promise." He said as he looked at you and he actually looked like he was pleading.

The tone, the pleading look as soon as you glanced back at him actually made you stop and think about his proposal. You weigh it in your head and curse yourself for nodding.

"Okay." You said curtly.

Robby exhaled in relief. He thanked you. "Thank you, really. I understand that you didn't even have to indulge in whatever I say, but thank you. Really." He said as he gulped and walked over to your bedside.

"I'll... Well, we will take care of your injury first and I promise you, we will talk, okay? Do you have anywhere to be after 6 PM?" He asked softly.

You looked at him and saw the actual genuine look of remorse in his face. Yet, you don't really know him now, do you? For all you know, he's putting a farce just to get your sympathy, but alas, you decided to gamble your chances.

"I was supposed to be at the Halloween party, but at this point with this damn wrist... who knows." You shrugged and sighed. "So, no, I suppose. Nowhere to be." You looked at him, gauging what he's planning.

"Okay. Then if you... if you would, you could wait for me and... and we'll figure this out. Alright?" Robby said as he looked at you, his hands in his pockets. He's trying so goddamn hard to restrain himself from the urge to touch you, to put that stubborn strand of hair on your right behind your ear. He's not sure if he's in that territory yet.

You listened to him. Weighing your options and deciding, what the hell. "Sure, Doctor Robby." You said as you looked at him with eyes full of questions. As if challenging him and saying, are you even the guy I know?

Robby looked down and nodded. "Right. Dr Whitaker will check on you soon. I need to uh... to check everyone else and-"

"You can go, Doctor." You said as you looked away, up to the ceiling, away from those brown eyes. Dangerous brown eyes which piqued your curiosity. Are you looking at me with your guilt or with your regret?

Robby nodded, taking steps back towards the door. Getting out of it and clicking it shut behind him. He cursed to himself, while you let out the biggest exhale.

"Okay, Ma'am. Due to the fracture, you will keep your cast for about 6 weeks." Whitaker said as he gave you a sympathetic smile.

"But you'll have to come back here in about a week for observation and control." He added as he put in some additional information in your chart. "I've also prescribed some vitamins and supplements just to support the recovery."

"Thanks, doc." You said as you sighed sitting up. "Is Mike done already?" You asked as you looked at your watch. 6:45 PM.

"Oh, uh, Doctor Robby?"

"Yeah, sure, Doctor Robby."

"He's tending to another patient at the moment and he has signed off on all of your treatment and aftercare instructions so you are clear to go if you need to and-"

"Is he done?" You asked again, looking at Whitaker begging him to just give her a yes or no answer.

"Uh, I guess not? You really are okay to go without-"

"He told me to wait for him." You said, deadpanned. "And I'm just wondering where to wait if I am done. There are a lot of people in your cramped waiting room outside and I am sure you don't need me hogging the bed, right?" You said, trying not to sound like an irritated person because God knows you know this young guy is just doing his job.

"Uh, yes, Ma'am. Uh... well... I'll have to check on Doctor Robby with that and-"

"Check on me for what?" Robby said as he came in, sliding the curtain open and got his sights on you first thing before he turned to his student doctor.

"Patient said she was told to wait for you?" Whitaker asked.

"Right." Robby nodded. "I'll take over, Whitaker. Thank you." Robby said as he waved him off. Whitaker took the sign and scurried off but not before he said a clumsy bye to you.

"Do you scare people or something? Why are they always... tense when you're around?" You said to Robby. Attempting a joke but you are not sure at this point.

Robby looked at you for a bit before he scoffed. "I'm the Chief Attending, sometimes they are self conscious when I am here. Afraid to make mistakes or something." He shrugged. You hummed in response.

"Uh, I still have a few things to take care of but you can come with me to the break room and wait there. It's not much, but I grabbed a few snacks for you and I don't know what you like so I got water and coffee." He said as he tried not to look at you too much while he spoke. His hand rubbed the back of his neck as if he's trying to assess if he's doing the right thing or not.

"Sure, Doctor Robby." You said as you tried to get up. He helped you immediately.

"I'm still just Mike, you  know. You don't have to call me Doctor Robby-"

"Everybody calls you that." You shrugged at him

"Yeah, well, you're not everybody." He said as he assisted you out of the room and to the hallway. You glanced at him after and you were met with the left side of his face as he kept his sights firmly straight up. He kept his hand hovered on the small of your back, though. Ignoring everyone who glanced at what their Chief Attending is doing. Honestly? You don't mind the move he's doing. It's the least he could do considering everything.

He opened the door to the break room. It wasn't something fancy. The smell of stale coffee hit you immediately as you entered the room. Robby closed the door behind you and walked you to the chair, setting it aside for you as he took another one and sat on it himself. You looked around. There was a fridge, microwave, and the cabinets where they'd put their utensils, cups, and mugs. You were silent for a while, taking the surroundings in.

Robby watched you with equal parts curiosity, awe, and nervousness. Because honestly? He doesn't know where to go from here. So, he cleared his throat. "I know it's probably shit, we don't exactly have the most budget and-"

"Why do you want me to wait, Doctor Robby?" You asked as you turned to look at him, cutting him off mid sentence.

"Don't call me that," Robby sighed. "Please. You've never called me that and-"

"I don't even know you, honestly." She shrugged. "Mike may not even be your name for all I know." You looked in his eyes, challenging him.

"It is. That part, I never lied," He said as he pulled his badge for you to see closer. "I'm Mike. I've always been Mike, sweets." He explained as he looked into your eyes, begging for you to not doubt him. You winced at the nickname usage, but let it slide.

You read the badge. Michael Robinavitch, MD. Chief Attending Physician.

"So, I guess you had a promotion or something. Chief?" You asked, noting the fact that when you both used to talk online, he never mentioned his rank. Just that he's a senior doctor in the ED, but you kind of guessed he might be in the attending position.

"After... well, after Adamson... uh, yeah I... I became Chief." Robby explained and you didn't miss the flash of pain in his eyes. You simply nodded.

There was a beat before he took a deep breath and looked at you again. "I need you to wait here. I will finish my shift in a bit and I want to have dinner with you or something, not... not as a... well, just, it's just for us to clarify things. For me, to clarify things. I promise you." Robby explained as he laid out his proposal on how to do this right with you.

"And if I refuse?" You asked

"I beg you." He expressed without missing a beat. Eyes locked to you now. You can hear the commotion of people outside, probably a lot of them needed Robby and you know he needed your answer now.

"Okay." You simply said. Robby let out a huge sigh of relief. Looking down and nodding.

"Thank you, seriously. Thank you. For giving me a chance."

"I wasn't."

"A chance to explain at least." He said before he stood up. "I promise. I won't take long. I will come get you." He added before he looked over at you again as if he was assessing if you are going to be okay and don't run off on him.

"I'll be here, Mike." You declared and you saw his eyebrow twitched. His eyes widened a bit. He was relieved that you called him by his name again.

He nodded and walked out of the break room.
