Chapter Text
King George POV
I lay in my bed, staring up at the ceiling. It's only been a month, but it feels like years; my chest feels heavier with every passing day. I can't get my mind off of him, off of that dammed letter. Heavens, he's probably burned it! The laughing stock of his dumb little camp. I need a response. And I need it now. I struggle to focus in meetings; I'm not sitting still, and I keep getting told,
"Mind your manners, George!"
Or
"You really ought to sleep better, sir"
and quite frankly, it's irritated me to the core. My servants look at me like I might snap their necks for breathing wrong, and I just might. I caught two measly peasants gossiping about ME! They were saying I'd gone mad, that my temper was like a brittle biscuit bound to snap! I had them executed, of course. But alas, I still await a missive in return for mine. I'd call off this dammed war if it meant getting to spend the rest of my days with Washington...If I said this out loud, goodness, I don't even want to imagine. My thoughts were rudely interrupted by a servant knocking on my door.
"Your Majesty? I have a letter for you!"
I jumped out of bed in an instant. I quickly slipped on my clothes for the day and put on my favourite powdered wig. I opened the door a crack and peered out. I slipped on a facade of nonchalance, despite wanting to scream,
"Well? Who's it from, boy?"
I asked impatiently. The servant looked nervous and held out the letter for me to take.
"Tis from General Washington, your Excellency.."
Washington?! It's from Washington! Oh, goodness me! I snatched the letter and shut the door in the servant's face. I ran to my bed and sat down, opening the letter with haste; the parchment nearly tore from how fast I opened it. I unfolded the letter; it was long, very long. I began to read and–
"Oh.."
I prepared myself to read the most dreadful letter of my very existence.
