Chapter Text
It was now night time in Kyoto, and the rest of Class 3E were now in their assigned cabin, intending to relax after yet another multiple failed attempts at assassinations around the city.
“I never would have expected Kanzaki-san would be so good at games!” Kayano exclaimed.
Nagisa was just silently watching his classmates play on his place on the couch when all of a sudden Okuda sat down beside him.
“Seems like there’s always something new we learn about ourselves and others,” she said, “I learned something about you as well.”
“Really?” he asked.
Okuda nodded, “Kanzaki-san told me what happened. I didn’t know you could be that brave.”
“Ah…” Nagisa blushed, “Honestly, I don’t know where that came from.”
“Maybe it’s just a part of you that you don’t know.”
Yeah… maybe.
She didn’t wait for a reply though as she continued, “Are you okay? Karma-kun was really worried earlier.”
“I’m alright,” he answered, before remembering something else, “I am too, actually. Do you know what happened to his hand? He wouldn’t tell me,” he asked, having noticed the bandage around it during dinner.
“Oh–”
He didn’t really get an answer as Karma suddenly joined them, sitting down next to Okuda.
“Chiba’s looking for you, says you can use the shower now,” he said to Nagisa.
Nagisa nodded and was about to stand when Okuda got up before him, a slight pink tint on her face. “I’ll just see you later Nagisa-kun,” she said, clearly flustered. She had said that so quickly Nagisa was surprised he could understand it.
“Sure…” Nagisa slowly replied back but she was gone.
Karma watched her bristle away a little confused, “What was that about?”
Nagisa just shrugged.
When Nagisa eventually went to go take his shower, Karma was left with nothing else to do other than hang out at the alphas’ room, grabbing a juice from the fridge before making his way over. Walking inside, he saw all of them huddled in the middle of the room around a piece of paper that had the names of their omega classmates.
"Got something interesting there?” he asked, simultaneously announcing his presence and looking over their president’s shoulder.
"Unless you wanna have another fight with Nagisa, I suggest not getting involved," Nakamura said with a teasing smile.
Rolling his eyes, he walked to the window and leaned on the wall beside it drinking his juice, “What's that anyway?"
"Oh, it's just a poll of who's the omega we're most interested in," Maehara nonchalantly explained, picking up the paper and reading it again, "Kanzaki's got the highest score."
Okajima turned to Sugino, “You’re in the same group as her, right? How’d it go?”
Karma snorted through his drink as Sugino hesitated, giving the redhead a look that was clearly meant to be a glare, but it just amused Karma even more.
"We ran into all sorts of trouble, so there was hardly any time to talk."
"Can I see that?" Karma asked, holding out his hand towards Maehara.
He scanned over the list and paused when he saw Nagisa’s name written on the bottom of it. What got him the most was that it was written with a different handwriting than the rest of the names, having been clearly added in.
“Now that is interesting.”
Maehara looked at him confused, “What?”
Karma shoved the piece of paper back into his chest, causing Maehara to slightly flinch before going over the names. Realization hit him once he saw what Karma was hinting at.
“I clearly remember intentionally not putting his name here.”
Okajima nodded, also with a confused expression, "Yeah, we didn't wanna cause something with you."
Karma raised his eyebrows, "Then why is it?"
Mimura raised his hands, "We have no idea Karma, we swear."
"Well," Isogai said, easing the tension before it could get more stiff, taking the paper from his best friend, "It's not like there's anything to this anyway."
Fuwa nodded, "This is just our little secret."
Isogai agreed, "As far as the omegas and sensei are concerned, we'll definitely–"
Wait, what?
The rest of the alphas followed Isogai's gaze and found Korosensei plastered on the glass window, writing something down in his notebook with a huge grin on his face before bolting out of sight in the blink of an eye.
"Did he just... jolt it down and ran?" Okajima asked.
...
"KILL HIM!!"
While the alphas ran outside of the room to chase their teacher, Karma stayed behind.
"I think you shouldn't have to worry about it," he heard a voice say.
Karma turned and found Kayano still sitting in her place, smiling up at him.
"Hmm?"
Kayano shrugged, "Whoever put Nagisa's name definitely knows they won't have a chance."
"Then why even bother?" was Karma's last words before exiting the room to freshen himself up.
He was hastily walking when he almost ran into someone.
"Why are you in a hurry?" whoever he bumped into was asked him.
Karma looked down and saw Nagisa, and judging by his damp blue hair and towel around his shoulders, he had just finished his shower, "I'm sorry I wasn’t looking,” he said, still feeling a little irritated.
Nagisa furrowed his eyebrows in concern, "Are you okay?"
In all honesty, Karma was not okay. He felt like this day just seems to like to throw stuff at him at random. First, the good for nothing kidnappers that almost harmed them all, before taking Nagisa away, and now finding out that there may be someone else who is interested in Nagisa.
Call him dramatic, but for what he has gone through this day, can someone really blame him? His inner alpha is definitely not happy.
However, he really couldn’t lash out on the omega, and he certainly doesn’t want to.
With this, Karma took a deep breath to calm himself before answering. Trying on his best convincing smile before saying, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Nagisa was about to say something back if it wasn't for the multiple shouts that echoed around the halls.
"Hold it right there you damn octopus!"
"You have no right invading your students' privacy like that!"
"We're gonna catch you and KILL YOU!"
Karma easily grabbed Nagisa’s arm and pulled him towards his chest and out of harm’s way of the enraged alphas as they ran past them, all holding out their guns and rubber knives.
Surprised, Nagisa looked up to him, "What was that?"
Karma shrugged, "Everything ends up as an assassination attempt around here."
After all the chaos had subsided, the rest of Class E were now in their respective shared rooms sound asleep.
Except Nagisa.
He tried, turning and twisting every now and then in his sleeping bag placed on a spot on the floor in the omegas' room, but so far the only thing that had done was bother Chiba who was already asleep next to him.
Ultimately he gave up and worked his way out of his sleeping bag, placing a jacket, that may or may not have been Karma’s, walking out the door and out into the dark hallway. Unlike earlier, everything was quiet, so he had to carry his feet in order to not make any more noise.
He walked until he reached the front porch, having wanted to get some fresh air that maybe could help lure him to sleep. When he walked out the door though, he immediately saw that he wasn't alone.
"Karma?"
The alpha in question turned his head from where he was leaning against the railing. Upon seeing who it was, Karma greeted him with a soft smile, "Why are you up?"
"I could ask you the same thing," was what Nagisa said before he made his way over to him. "Couldn't sleep?"
Karma nodded, "I assume you couldn't either."
Nagisa confirmed his assumptions with a nod.
"They didn’t hurt you, right?" Karma had asked softly, “Those bastards?”
"No," Nagisa shook his head and answered. "What about you?" he continued to ask, gently tracing his own hand upon the alpha’s bandaged one.
“I’m fine,” Karma answered, uncharacteristically soft for him.
Nagisa decided not to push his worries from earlier and just leaned his head against Karma’s shoulder, hoping to give at least a little comfort to whatever’s troubling the alpha.
Things between them went quiet for a while. Just them looking at the faraway Kyoto sky while Nagisa felt the wind blow his hair that wasn’t in it’s usual pigtails, basking in the new environment before they have to go back home.
"I should've done more though."
"Hmm?" Nagisa hummed.
"I felt like I’m not doing enough," the alpha added.
"What do you mean?"
"I should've beaten those assholes to a pulp if it meant I kept you safe."
Nagisa lifted his head, "Is that what this is about?"
Silence was what he got.
"Karma," Nagisa wrapped a hand around the other's arm, "You know you could only do so much."
"That's just it, Nagisa," Karma turned fully towards the omega. "If I couldn't protect you from something like that then how the hell am I going to when it happens again?"
"You can't protect me from everything."
"I could try."
"And you did and I know that you always will and that's what matters."
"I just–want you to feel safe when you’re with me," Karma shyly admitted.
“I do,” Nagisa emphasized, “Listen, you don’t always have to protect me to make me feel safe. Sometimes, just you being there is enough,” he said, remembering how he felt when Karma showed up earlier after they had rescued them.
“Really?”
“Really,” he repeated, stepping forward to wrap his arms around the other's torso, suddenly having the urge to hug hi
"You know," Karma said, wrapping his own arms around Nagisa's smaller frame, "We never had that coffee."
Nagisa snorted from where his face was buried in Karma's shoulder, "We can always go back."
"When?"
"I dunno," he yawned.
Karma chuckled, “Come on, we should head inside before you pass out on me.”
"That you should, my dear students."
They froze as they heard a new voice resonate from above them. Looking up, they found their octopus teacher hanging upside down from the roof, a huge grin and pink blushes on his face.
Karma narrowed his eyes, "Got nothing else to do other than spy on your students?" he said as Nagisa buried his face back on Karma's shoulder in embarrassment, "How long have you been there anyway?"
Korosensei climbed back down the roof, using his tentacles as cushions of his fall, "That's not important Karma-kun," he said, slithering back into the cabin, the teasing smile never leaving his face.
"You better not have taken any pictures!"
After their talk on the front porch, Nagisa slept soundly. He woke up finding himself smiling, curled up in the comfort of his sleeping bag and Karma's jacket.
The class were now on the train ride back home.
Okuda and her group were once again, sitting together and playing cards. This time, however, Okuda wasn't in the mood to join in and was now lost in thought.
"Okuda-san?" she heard someone call her.
Looking up, she saw Nagisa staring at her with concern written in his eyes, "Yeah?"
"Are you okay?" he asked, “I’ve been calling you for a while now.”
Okuda nodded her head and tried to put on her most convincing smile, "I’m sorry did you need anything?"
“I just wanted to ask if you want to go with me to buy some drinks?” he said.
“Oh!” she perked up, “Sure.”
“Please don’t bump into anyone again,” Kanzaki half-joked, which made the group chuckle a bit.
As they were on their way to the machine, taking Kanzaki’s advice a little seriously, Okuda took the chance. She didn’t know if she could do this later on if not now.
Taking a deep breath, she started, “Listen, Nagisa-kun, I want to be completely honest with you. I don’t know if there’s even a point in telling you this but I just… feel like I should.”
“Okay…” Nagisa slowly said, slightly surprised.
Okuda fiddled with her thumbs, “It’s been a while that… Well, it started basically when we were second years but… I’m… I just wanted you to know that I’m… attracted to Karma-kun.”
Nagisa’s movements stilled for a bit at her words as he bent down to pick up the drinks, “Oh…”
“I’m not trying to start anything but I just really wanted to tell you, and say that I'm sorry."
"For… what?"
Okuda took a deep breath, "This started even before we were classmates to be honest. I've seen you guys around the campus and I was… jealous of you and I… I wanted to be angry at you."
Nagisa just played with the lid of his can, trying to take all of this in.
“Then I got to know you during this trip and I realized that there’s more to you than the one I shaped inside my head,” she continued, "I've seen up front just how much he genuinely cares about you too and maybe that’s the push I needed for closure."
Nagisa was at a loss for words, “That’s alright, I guess,” was what he managed to say, then continued after a beat. “Shouldn’t you be telling this to Karma though?”
Okuda shook her head, “I don’t really think it matters whether I tell him or not, because I already know his answer,” she said, a sad smile forming on her face, “Besides, I don’t really plan on doing anything about it anyway. All I know is that… he's happy, and that's all that matters.”
Picking up her drink from the dispenser, she continued.
"So just, for the time being, while you two are still together… please continue to make him happy.”
Nagisa didn’t have the opportunity to reply.
“Why are you two huddled up here?” Sugino appeared, apparently looking for them when they took a longer time than expected to get drinks.
“Sorry, we got a little caught up in the moment,” Okuda answered for them.
Well, that was one way of putting it.
The rest of their train ride home went by without a hitch, his conversation with Okuda burning still inside his mind.
He honestly didn't know how to react to it. Maybe he had a hunch, but it was gone the moment it came and Nagisa just never really thought of it much later on. Glancing at his fellow omega and seeing her smile, he then thought that maybe she just needed to get it out of her system.
A closure… as she said.
"Hey,” Karma interrupted his thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"I'm holding onto that coffee promise."
