Chapter Text

Zachary — Janitor

Being a Janitor was mostly boring since you’re basically a maid for the Saboteur. My Saboteur was basically my best friend as of now, Rome.

We met ever since we found out I was his janitor and then somehow, we just clicked.

We’d just talk as we did our jobs, mostly chatted about everything. We even did a real damn deep talk. I even told him about my boyfriend, Hudson. He would definitely be friends with Rome. But shit got even better when we both saw Cleo and Ella making out. We were laughing our asses off. Sometimes, meeting new people and having soft moments like this make this blood-bathed game a little better. Maybe joining the game wasn’t so bad after all, minus the gore and killing.

Third Person — All

Everyone was seated at the table. The woman’s voice came out of the speaker, again. “Leo did not survive the dark, he died because of a stab.”

And there came that damn timer again.

“Aaliyah.. explain yourself, please.” Bertram asserted. Rest assured almost everyone thought it was Aaliyah. “Woah woah woah, let’s rewind this shit for a second. Hi my name is Aaliyah, I’m Judge and I wasn’t near Leo at all, it’s not me. So should I introduce myself again or have you guys actually gotten your shit together?” She explained without wasting a second. Like a rap verse. “That would be either Bertram or Wayne then.” Belinda stated. “If Aaliyah is really Judge, she could prove her role then.”

“I saw Bertram move during EMP. If that helps.” Aaron chimed in. “But I’m Civilian..?” Bertram stated. And so starts the arguing over and over again, shitty mind games. Am I right?

Cleo observed like usual. Belinda suppressed Bertram and everyone was thinking of the possibilities that would happen in the next night.

When the vote casting phase started, Bertram couldn’t vote. “Why can’t I vote?” He asked, wanting a direct answer. “You’re suppressed, Bertram.” Belinda responded.

But then, the votes stacked up. 7 votes Wayne, 7 votes Bertram. Everyone’s gaze drifted to Aaliyah. Everyone was telling her who to vote,

“ITS BERTRAM!” Wayne yelled. “NO! ITS WAYNE.” Cleo countered. Like a ping pong match that might not ever end. “ENOUGH.” Aaliyah yelled, “We don’t have enough time to argue. Im doing this vote out of gut feeling, I really don’t know anymore.” She sighed as she made the verdict. The woman’s voice, yet again spoke up. “Bertram will be eliminated.” Then a shot through Bertram’s head. “He had no ties to the Mafia.”

“I proved my role.” Aaliyah stated. “I am the judge, now, apologies to Bertram.” She stood up from her seat, heading to the main area. Aaliyah was thankful she finally got cleared, she really had to do all that just to clear her name from the mafia. Even if she intentionally killed an innocent by gut feeling. Everyone else went too. As if no one had the idea to vote Bertram. Fact is, the game was like a magnet, it’ll pull you with the utmost bribery of money. What some wanted. But the Mafia have their ways, every vote meant one life lost, but almost everyone would think about the things they would have after playing. They might not know that this magnetic pulse is bringing them into a death trap.

Cleo — Mafia (IDF)

I quickly, yet swiftly ran to the unstable platform, where I saved Ella.  I didn’t go to Martin this time, he already knew when to use that EMP device. 35 minutes before 4am. I had enough time to write the information needed for Fallon. She needs it, and I don’t want to be an unemployed homeless person. I don’t need the money the Mafia gives, they’re ass. Survival is the only priority needed for me, Martin and probably everyone too.

I quickly grabbed a book, tore off the blank, stained page at the very back of the book and used a piece of wood from a broken closet as my pen. Then I used my knife, cut a tiny scar on my arm, hissing in pain as the blood flowed out of my arm, I let it flow on the piece of wood. I wrote every information I gathered from this game as of now. The game handler’s blonde hair. The way the silencing works, where the detainer room is, the Mafia perks, anything thats good for information. My blood and the makeshift pen were doing great for a pen with ink, the blood slowly drying along the edges of the page, carved in the same letter I wrote it in. Every word was left written in a deep, crimson colour. I stared at the piece of paper.

Dear Fallon B. ,

I am apart of the investigation group A.

The grasp of the Mafia is strong as it is, the information I have is what I have seen from the game played in the library. One of the game handlers has blonde hair, like Sadie’s for example. They also have some kind of mask covering their face, to not reveal their identity. The detainer room is northwest from the windows, near the stairs leading to the platform. To silence, one must touch or softly tap another’s shoulder. One of my mafia teammates has this EMP device, useful for blackouts. But I fear something is yet to come, there are signs that the Mafia may be covered by the Veil. The faction you might have just predicted. If I die in this game, may Ella W. deliver this to you. We must end this soon. Time is running out. May you be safe.

From: Cleo L.

Ella was a good candidate to deliver the letter to Fallon, she looked like she knew her sense of direction. If I die, this is the last hope I may have.

“This is long enou-“ I muttered, getting cut off with the floorboards creaking. It would have been Martin, but he’s downstairs. It was unlikely.

“Hello?” I stated in uncertainty. But the response I received was silence. Then I looked behind me slowly. Another step. Standing on the entrance of the platform was Ella. But we didn’t speak, we just.. stared at each other. “Kissing me wasn’t the best way to ask for forgiveness, Cleo.” Ella stated. “You still have that lipstick stain on your neck, you know?” I softly giggled. But Ella’s cheeks got a little rosy, blushing. But still, she decided to come to me, sitting next to me.

“You’re bleeding, Cleo.” Ella commented, ripping a part of her jacket sleeve out just to bandage my wound. Once her hands grazed on my arm tying the makeshift bandage on my arm, the immediate warmth made me want to crave more of her touch. It was like a magnetic pull.

As Ella finished tying the makeshift bandage, she planted a kiss on the bandage. I won’t even try to look at my reflection, my cheeks may be visibly pinkish/red. Ella glanced at the bloody stick, then at the piece of paper that was lying near me. “May I?” Ella asked, I nodded in approval as she took the piece of paper, reading it. It was 1:10am. Still early. Thats a good sign.

After Ella read the letter, she gazed at me solemnly. “Cleo.. I- .. I’ll send this to Fallon.” Ella gulped. “I believe the person right next to me got her shit together- but please. Stay alive for me.” Ella stated, still looking at me with that solemn expression.

“Truth is Cleo, I love you.” Ella responded in such sincerity.

For the first time since playing this shitty mind game. I couldn’t counter Ella’s honest words. Every response always had a counter from me, but not this response.

Suddenly, she hugged me tightly, her lips crashing down on mine. I felt like I was being reassured. Butterflies were in my stomach, god my cheeks are getting more visibly rosy. But her magnetising pull was so strong, how could I ever resist? I planted a soothing kiss on Ella’s forehead. “Words cannot describe on how much I love you,Ella. We’ll find a way.” I smiled. Maybe surviving wasn’t the thing I wanted most anymore. Maybe I just wanted a future where she was in it.
