Chapter Text

The sun stood proudly in the sky, its golden light bringing with it a scorching heat.

It was another beautiful morning in Konoha.

Birds soared across the clear blue sky as a gentle breeze swayed the branches of the trees.

Sunlight fell on the houses and streets, bathing them in a golden blanket. Small figures moved below it despite the scorching heat.

The wind gently nudged the tightly drawn curtains apart, allowing broad golden rays of sunlight to pour into the room.

The birds chirped happily outside, seemingly deciding that everyone had slept long enough.

"Ughh," Sarada immediately pulled the blanket over her face, determined to ignore nature's alarm clock.

She stayed like that for a few more blissful minutes before reluctantly accepting defeat.

The bed was far too soft, but she had other responsibilities.

With a quiet sigh, she climbed out of bed, freshened up, and returned to the bedroom wearing the oversized shirt she had stolen from Boruto not long ago.

She walked down the hallway, which was filled with family pictures, including hers and Boruto's.

She finally reached the kitchen and was definitely not prepared for the sight that greeted her.

Boruto was standing by the stove, flipping pancakes with one arm while humming a song, wearing an apron that read "The Hokage's Hot Husband."

Her cheeks flushed almost instantly.

"Boruto, why the heck are you wearing that?" She pointed an accusing finger at the traitorous apron, while her other hand flew to her face.

"Whatt? Don't I look good in this?" His lips curled into a huge smirk as he struck a dramatic pose, as if he were modeling the apron.

"Hmphh." She huffed.

She pulled out a chair from the dining table and sat down.

"Sarada, it was a wedding gift, dattebasa," Boruto said.

"It would be a shame to let it go to waste," he winked at her, sending a deep blush rushing across her cheeks.

"Aghhh, don't remind me, Boruto," Sarada sighed.

"Why not? It's a gift from your bestie," he replied with a silly smile.

"That stupid Chocho," she muttered, though her eyes softened slightly.

"Also, don't I look hot in this, Hokage-sama?" he asked with a huge grin.

"Am I not the Hokage's hot husband?" he wiggled his eyebrows.

"Hmm, you're okay," Sarada replied calmly.

"Uh huh, if I'm not hot, why are you blushing so much?" His smirk widened.

"Um…. must be the temperature," her cheeks grew even warmer.

"Yup, yup, it's definitely the temperature," he gave her an overly exaggerated nod.

"Boruto"

"Hmm"

"You're burning the pancakes," Sarada murmured.

"Really? Hmm, I know what this is: you are trying to distract me from the fact that you are blushing," he nodded confidently, crossing his arms.

His face scrunched into a frown.

"What's that smell?" he sniffed the air.

His gaze shifted from her to the pancakes in the pan, and damn, there was no saving them.

"…Oops."

"Ahhh!" he scrambled to save at least some of the pancakes while Sarada laughed in the back.

"Sarada, why are you laughing?" he asked, trying to sound offended, though the blush on his face betrayed him.

"Hush, Boruto, don't worry," Sarada said.

"I won't tell anyone; it's between you and me," she smirked, too satisfied with the situation.

"I'm going to have to make them all from scratch again," he whined.

"It's okay, Boruto, I'm with you." Sarada kissed his cheek.

A deep blush spread across his cheeks, and he quickly turned his attention back to the pancakes, hoping she hadn't noticed.

"I see the blush, Boruto," Sarada teased.

"Hmphh," he looked away, still blushing.

"Come on, Hokage's Dear Hot Husband, you can do it," she murmured with a smirk.

"Aha! So you admit I'm hot?" he immediately abandoned the pancakes and turned to look at her, his grin so wide it looked like his face might split in two.

"Careful, Boruto, the pancakes… you're gonna burn them again," she warned.

"Oh no," Boruto immediately snapped his attention back to the pan.

He was definitely not remaking them again.

After spending some time remaking the pancakes, they were finally served at the table.

"Do you want some more honey, love?" Boruto asked, stuffing his mouth with pancakes.

"Hm, no thanks," Sarada replied before taking another bite.

"Hmm," Boruto let out a delighted sound as he stuffed another pancake into his mouth.

"You seem too happy, Boruto," she giggled.

"Of course I am. I'm eating pancakes with my wife," he grinned.

Heat spread to her cheeks, but she smiled.

"So what do you wanna do after breakfast?" Boruto asked, wiping his mouth with a cloth.

"What do I want to do? Work, of course," Sarada replied.

"What? Of course not," he whined.

"Then what do you suggest we do, idiot?" she murmured.

"We're going to watch TV, then we're going out for burgers," he declared enthusiastically.

"Really?" Her eye twitched.

"Yup, and it's a date; I will even get you the caramel macchiato you love." He blinked rapidly at her.

She thought it over for a moment before replying:

"Alright, that's a bargain I can take."

Boruto looked like he had just won a lottery.

As they finished eating and putting away the washed dishes, the doorbell rang.

"Hm, who could that be?" Boruto said, already moving to open the door.

He unlocked the door and froze for a moment.

"Oh, Aunt Sakura," Boruto said, moving away to let her in.

"Yes, Boruto, how are you?" she gave him a quiet hug.

"I'm fine, Aunt Sakura," he said as they parted.

" And how's my daughter?" she asked.

"Sarada's okay too, thanks to me," he grinned.

"Oh, really?" Sakura smirked.

"Mama," Sarada called out as she walked over to them.

Seeing her daughter, the older woman's eyes lit up.

"My baby, I missed you so much." Sakura pulled Sarada into a tight hug.

"Hahaha, mama, you just saw me yesterday," she said.

"Nonsense, that wasn't just yesterday," Sakura said, still hugging her.

Sakura finally pulled away from her, took her hand, and dragged her to the living room.

"Come on, baby, you still have to tell me how Boruto is as a husband," she grinned mischievously.

"Mamaa," Sarada let out an embarrassed sigh.

Sakura just giggled in return.

"Here, Aunt Sakura," Boruto said, setting the tray of tea on the coffee table.

"Ohh, you didn't have to, Boruto," Sakura said, then she took a sip.

"Ah, don't worry about it," Boruto said with a smile as he sat down beside Sarada.

"Oh my god, that's some good tea," Sakura gasped in amazement.

Then she turned to her daughter and said:

"Sarada, baby, you get to drink this every day?"

"Not really," Sarada murmured.

"What, you don't!? That should be a crime against humanity," Sakura gasped.

"Hehe, Aunt Sakura, you flatter me," Boruto said.

"Well, it's not like every mother-in-law out there gets to drink delicious tea made by her precious son-in-law," Sakura said dramatically.

"Okay… maybe that's a little too much, Mom," Sarada said, giving her a look that clearly said "Really?"

"Where's Dad, by the way?" Sarada then asked.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, your dad picked up gardening recently; he's busy tending to the plants," Sakura smiled.

"Really?" Boruto blinked, unable to believe it. Thank god, he was safe. " Master Sasuke gardening? It's hard to imagine, dattebasa. " He shrugged.

"Yeah, I know. But he's so gentle with those plants. Oh my god. Even I, a medic nin, am not that gentle; it's like those plants are his children," Sakura began gesturing animatedly with her hands.

"It's good that he's picking up gardening," Sarada murmured. She brought the teacup close to her lips and took a sip from it.

Sakura looked at them both.

"Well, yes. He's been quite free ever since you two took over most of the responsibilities of the village."

"That's good, Aunt Sakura," Boruto said, giving an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

"He does need the rest," Sarada said, glancing at her mother.

"Yeah, well. I guess he will spend his days gardening until he has grandchildren to spoil," Sakura added, a serene smile on her face.

Sarada, who had just taken a sip of the tea, immediately choked and broke into a fit of coughing, her entire face flushing up.

"Hey, hey!" Boruto patted her back.

"Oh! Easy there, sweetheart," Sakura said, rubbing Sarada's shoulder gently.

After a moment, Sarada finally regained her breath and composure. She looked over to her mother, still slightly flustered.

"Mom! You can't just! aughh," Sarada groaned, burying her face in her hands, her cheeks and ears bright red.

She tried to hide her face even further with her hands, if that was even possible.

Please! Earth, open up and swallow me!

It's too embarrassing!

Sakura, seeing her daughter like this, smiled. Which meant nothing good was about to come from it.

"Ohh, my grumpy blushing baby," Sakura cooed, gently poking the exposed side of Sarada's cheek.

"It's okay, sweetheart. It's natural. That's just how life works," Sakura said as she rubbed soothing circles on her back.

"So, when your dad and I got together, our parents used to talk about grandkids too; now you two have gotten married, and we, as your parents, are talking about grandkids. Honestly, that's just how parents work," Sakura smiled.

"It's a generational thing; it's almost like a cycle," Sakura added.

"Yeah, yeah. Sarada, it's totally okay," Boruto tried to calm her, though he himself had a slight blush on his face.

Sarada finally lifted her face, though she still refused to look Sakura in the face.

She was too embarrassed; she got embarrassed when it came to her marriage to Boruto, and her mother had straight up mentioned grandkids!

"Fine," she finally looked over at Sakura, " Mom!"

"I know, baby, I know," Sakura murmured, trying not to laugh.

"Well, my baby. I can't stay here forever. If it were up to me, I would stay here forever and talk about grandkids," Sakura flashed Sarada a beaming smile.

Sarada smiled back, "Mom, I know." She laughed, causing all of them to laugh along with her.

Sakura stood up, took Sarada's face in her hands, and started bombarding her face with wet kisses.

"Alright, Sarada, take care," Sakura's eyes welled up with tears, but she quickly blinked them away.

Then she turned to Boruto.

"And Boruto, take care of my daughter," Sakura said firmly.

"I will, dattebasa," He declared, his eyes painfully sincere, overflowing with love as he looked at Sarada.

Sakura's eyes, once again filled with tears, realizing her daughter had married the perfect man.

She turned back to her daughter, who was now standing up.

"Okay, baby, goodbye," Sakura wrapped Sarada in a tight hug.

"Bye, Mama," Sarada whispered, hugging back.

Sakura then gave Boruto a quick but firm hug.

As she stepped out of the door, she paused and she looked back at her daughter, who had grown into a wonderful leader, and her son-in-law, who had become a great protector.

A proud smile broke onto her face as she waved at them.

"Take care, you two! And goodbye!"

"We will, Aunt. Goodbye," Boruto waved back to her.

"Bye, Mom," Sarada said, waving as well.

They watched as Sakura slowly disappeared into the crowd. After a moment, they closed the door and went back inside.

After Sakura's departure, they had cleared the table and arranged everything back in its place. This had left them a little tired. Which was weird, because as shinobi they had trained to endure almost anything. But despite that, here they were, sitting or perhaps almost lying on the couch, trying to catch their breath.

"Sarada," Boruto wheezed.

Sarada shifted her head towards him and murmured:

"Hmm?"

"We're still shinobi, right?" Boruto asked with genuine concern.

"Yes, Boruto. We're still shinobi even if we got tired after simply cleaning up," Sarada replied.

"Huh, I guess we're also human."

He looked at her, and here she was, staring at him with the most serious expression imaginable.

"We?" Sarada stared at him as if she had just been told the whole Uchiha clan was still alive.

"Yes, we. What's wrong with it?" Boruto asked, confused.

"I'm the only human here, Boruto," Sarada stated with absolute confidence.

"Heh, then what am I?" he snorted.

"A donkey, Boruto," she said, rolling her eyes at him.

"Heyy! I'm not a donkey!" Boruto exclaimed.

"A very charming donkey, you would say?" he wiggled his eyebrows at her.

"A very annoying one, for sure," she murmured, letting her head rest on his shoulder.

Her eyes softened as they drifted towards his face, and a slow smile spread across her face.

She then reached out with her hand, cupping his jaw gently, and she said:

"He's a donkey, but he's mine."

She leaned in and pressed a small kiss to the corner of his lips.

When she pulled back, she found him gazing at her with absolute adoration; she noticed the faint blush on his cheeks, and gave him a proud smile.

"Okay, I have been officially demoted from the Hokage's Shadow to the Hokage's Donkey. Either way, I'm happy," He said, letting out a chaotic but joyful laugh.

Sarada tried; she really tried, but she could not hold it back.

A huge giggle broke out of her that she had tried so hard to suppress, even though she never had to with him. Because with him, she never had to suppress herself, never had to keep anything to herself, and never had to hide a part of herself; he was her Shadow, her best friend, her only love, her husband, and her safe haven.

Boruto playfully poked her cheek.

"Come on, Hokage-sama. We have to go; we have a date."

"I know, Boruto," she said.

Then, after some time had passed, they both finally got up.

And they hurried off to wash up and get ready.
