What the heart wants

Chapter Text

It didn't took her long to fall asleep, after all it had been an extremely long emotionally draining day.

Emily appeared in the dream realm, she was surrounded by the clouds and the stars she saw earlier, then she appeared back in her boring house. "Hello? Sera? Speaker?" She called and heard the echo of her own voice, suddenly someone replied.

"Emily, come closer my child." The voice was distant yet familiar.

"Speaker? Is that you?" Emily looked around the walls to find where she could be talking from.

"Here, come closer" the voice came from behind the mirror.

"Oh let me help you!" Emily turned the mirror around to see a golden owl that stared at her with huge souls piercing eyes."EEEEK." She got started. "Are you sure you're the Speaker"

The bird giggled and flew to the tip of the mirror and looked down at her. "Yes Emily, I come her with a message"

"Oh, a message from God? Oh my Go- pardon me..."

The bird giggled again covering her pick with her golden wing. "It's alright little one, just don't over use the holy Mother's name." She said lifting her feathers in a finger way.

"Wait... Mother? Wasn't God a Father?"

"Yes Emily, God is Mother and Father of everything and everyone." The Speaker said while assenting with her head.

"Oh I see, sorry for the distractions! What message you God for me?!" Emily said excitingly giving tiny jumps on her place.

"Hmm, You must discover your role in Heaven alone, my child. I know you were expecting God to give you the answer right away but she has given you the mission to do so, it's all part of God's plan."

"Oh...I just thought..." Emily said while looking at the floor tiles and playing with her shoes.

"Oh don't feel discouraged my child, you'll get there eventually. In the meanwhile you should keep learning." The Speaker lose her owl form to show the one Emily was familiar with except for her enormous height, she leaned in to place a kiss on her forehead and disappeared in golden dust leaving Emily in fron of the mirror.

Emily turned the piece of furniture toward herself; seeing her own reflection gave her the ability to make her dream more lucid.

First she imagined a. Different dress, her current one was plain and white so she made it longer and a light blue tone with a white belt that hugged her waist. Next she moved to paint her walls with a finger snap, she made them the colours of the dawn, her window was so small she couldn't se the outside so she miracled  ceiling-to-floor windows with beautiful stained glass similar to those in the church that she saw with Sera next was her bed but then...

"Emily!!! Miss Emily please open the door!"

"Ugh! I was having the best dream of my life!!! Oh wait, technically the first...WHO IS IT! Emily didn't even bother to get op her bed, this interruption had her a little pissed and with her arms crossed trying hard to keep as much of her dream as she could.

"I-it's just a cherub! I come with a delivery for you, it'll be quick I promise!"

"Oh okay." Emily got up from the bed to peer the door just to see the cutest thing, a small dog angel with a huge bag of something behind him.

"Awwww look at you!!! Aren't you the cutest!"

"I appreciate it miss, I just came to deliver some books they forgot to put in your shelf." He said looking past her to the shelf behind them.

"Ohh... yeah, did you had to read all of that too when you were new?"

"Yup! But I seems like you have a lot more to read due to your importance in Heaven." The dog said nodding with his head.

"Oh I see, maybe you can stay here! I'm so alone and-"

"Can't do! I have so much to attend to! Besides, I am only a cherub, and you are a seraph! Oh, I have overstepped by speaking to you so familiarly; please forgive me miss."

"Oh? No need to apo-" And before she could finish her sentence the angel flew away leaving the bag at the doorstep.

Well that was...an interaction for sure. Oh well, Emily dragged the bag to the inside and put it next to the bookshelf.

"Wait, what was I doing? Oh yes my dream!"

She scratched her head trying to remember as the memories came slowly"

"So apparently God is Mother and Father and..what else was the Speaker saying? Ah yes...I have to discover my role alone I just don't see the point of not telling me right away but whatever God's plan for me is guess I'll have to find it myself ugh."

The another memory landed.

"Oh yes!! My house!'

Emily tried to do the same magic she did in her dream but nothing seemed to work.

"Ugh!"

Suddenly another knock on the door was heard.

"Emily open the door please."

"Sera? Coming!

She opened the door to see her sister or more like half of her since she was so tall.

"Good morning, Emily, how is your morning going"

"Hi Sera! I was in the middle of... something, care to come in?" Emily said extending her hand.

"Thanks but no, I was only doing a quick visit, I wanted to make sure the cherub delivered the books."

Emily couldn't hide her disappointment.

"Look, i know how this seems but I it's just how things work around here, to find you role you'll need to-"

"Yeah, yeah, find it myself...the Speaker of God told me in a dream."" Emily said rolling her eyes.

"Oh, that's interesting...I never got a visit from Her but... anyways I guess it's a good thing She told you personally. Sera said giving a smile with a hint of uncertainty.

"I guess you're right, maybe I can start reading now, what are the new books about? The cherub said he didn't have to read all that extra stuff"

"Heaven management, history of the angels and humans. You were asking non stop about the last two yesterday so I decided to bring some extra information, I assume you wanted the story to be told my be directly but I have a very busy job.

"You'd be correct on assuming but I understand." Emily said.

"Do you? Sera asked knowing she didn't mean it, she was so similar to Lucifer already...

"I mean...I was expecting to have a family bonding moment too but if you say you're busy I'll have to accept it"

The weight that the word family carried was tremendous, was she failing her already for not spending time with her like how she failed Lucifer? No, Sera was just fulfilling her role as head seraphim... right? Yes, that's it, spending too much time with her now fallen brother made him a brat, right? This guilt in her heart was never gonna leave her, But what could she have possibly done? He made that decision himself! It’s so complicated! And she didn't want to tell no-one about this...she had to be the cold headed leader she was born to be.

"Emily..."

This was a fresh start for her and Emily, she won't make the same mistake this time, marking the distance will do it.

"Just focus on your duties, goodbye for now, sister."

And so Emily was left by herself again, she just resorted to closing the door and lye down on the very center of her house. She closed her eyes and extended her hand upwards, from her palm a small bubble emerged, and another and another until she realised and looked up to see.

"WHAT?!!! I DID SOMETHING!!!"

Emily got up immediately with a jump, extended her 6 wings to flutter over her bed.

"No more distractions this time." She said as she extended her hand facing the front wall and attacked it with bubbles, meanwhile she visualised the colours she in her dream and used the bubbles to paint it.

"That's it! Like the dawn!"

She then worked on the roof, raising it with bubbles until it reached the height of a three-story house, her small circular window looked so goofy.

"That's more like it! Now what is missing? Oh but of course!"

She stood in the middle of the house and directed her bubbles toward the small window; with a snap, she brought down two entire walls, replacing them with beautiful windows identical to those in the church. Midday light streamed in beautifully reflecting on the floor tiles.

"It would be good to go out and get a little inspiration; there is a lot that needs changing." She said proudly with hands on her hips.

This was gonna be so exciting.

"Ugh but...the books..oh wait, Sera never said I had to read inside me hehehe." Emily rubbed her hands together in a comically villainous manner

It took her an hour to find the ideal reading spot, it was a small garden with just one tree, wild flowers and a nice view of Heaven. She had brought her bed's blanket to hold her books and lay on the grass.

"This will do." She put down her books, hid her wings, and lay down on her back.

Emily went for the first book on the pile, She devoured it in 10 minutes, something that had taken a human with advanced reading skills about three hours, honestly she just wanted to finish this task and go back to seeking inspiration for her house.

Four hours later, she had finished all the books she had brought with her, amounting more than half her library; she sat up to stretch her arms fully and magically made her wings appear.

"EEEEEE it wasn't that bad, I actually learned a lot! The stars and planets sound amazing and who would have thought there are angels dedicated to move them!" As she picked up her stuff to retire she continued talking to herself. "What the cherub said this morning makes more sense now, but I'm not fond of treating them as inferior, next time I see one I'm gonna ask them to call me by my name!"

It was starting to get darker, she flew over the clouds looking down at the beautiful buildings and gardens and then she saw a small group of virtues angels, she recognised them by their geometric faces; without hesitation she flew dawn to get to know them.

"Hello!!" She landed in the middle of their small circle.

"Ah! You startled me oof." One of them said putting their hand on their chest dramatically.

"Oh I'm so sorry, I just wanted to say hello! You guys are virtues right?" She asked giving them a huge smile, her excitement couldn't be hidden.

"Yes, we are, can we help you, seraph?" Said the one with the cube head.

"Oh no, no, I was just passing by, I'm new so I was learning everything about Heaven, I learned you guys do really amazing stuff and I was hop-" she was cut before she finished her sentence.

"Yeah, yeah, we are also very busy angels." Said one with a pyramid head.

"Oh, I'm sorry...i-i'll get going then." Emily turned around and looked back at them over her shoulder, but they had already flown away.

"I didn't even got to ask their names! Wait!" She took flight to follow them, prompting them to quicken their pace.

"Leave us alone, girl! We're busy people!" The pyramid head screamed

"I just wanna know you're names! I'm Emily by the way!!!!"

"Ugh, she's not gonna stop, is she, just open it" the cube head said to a another and so they extended their hands to to open a purple portal, the group of angels entered as fast as their wings let them and the portal disappeared with them in a flash of light.

"What the...HEY! THAT'S RUDE! AND WHAT WAS THAT THING!" Emily was left alone flying, suddenly she heard giggles. She followed the sound to find the dog cherub from earlier accompanied by a cat cherub.

"What's so funny?" She said looking at them with a pout on her lip.

"Hehehe, oh... we're so sorry for the trouble, Miss Emily; it’s just that... hehehe, the way they left you hanging."  Said the dog angel.

"They were so rude!" She said waving her arms dramatically.

"Oh for sure, they need to show more respect to their superiors." Said the cat angel nodding rapidly.

"Oh! But I wish we were all treated the same! I was thinking you guys could call me just by my name."

"Sorry, miss Emily, can't do, we are not allowed" Both said at the same time.

"Awww who made such rules!" Emily said almost defeated.

"The high seraph."

"Sera... she's very strict, isn't she." Emily said

"Yup! But it is what it is, anyways, do you need help with that?" The dog pointed at books inside the blanket she was carrying.

"Oh if you insist!" Emily handed him the bundle.

The three of them finally arrived to her house."

"Woo hoo! You sure upgraded your crib!" The dog said fluttering around the house.

"Wow miss! It's really petty!" Said the cat all heart eyed.

"Thank you! It still need some fixing, why don't you guys do the same to your places?"

The two cherubs looked at eachother.

"You're not allowed to do that either?" Asked saddened.

"Yeah...just the rules." The dog said holding his arm. "I think we should get going, right?

"Oh! I almost forgot!what's your names?" Emily asked leaning closer to the two small angels.

"I'm Taffy and this is Cece! Thank you. He said with his eyes getting glossy.

"Oh for what?" She asked

"No higher up has ever asked a cherub's name"

She kneeled to wrap the angels in a tight embrace to which they reciprocated. They said their goodbyes and Emily entered her house.
