Chapter Text
A month later, Konoha awoke beneath clear blue skies and the warmth of the spring sun.
The village buzzed with excitement from the earliest hours of the morning. Streets were decorated with fresh flowers, merchants eagerly discussed the day's celebration, and shinobi from every corner of the village quietly took their assigned posts. It was not merely another wedding.
It was a day that would be remembered for generations.
Today, Hyuga Hinata and Uchiha Sasuke would be married.
It had been decades since a member of the Hyuga main family had celebrated a wedding of this scale. More importantly, no one could remember the last time an Uchiha wedding had taken place within the village walls. What had once been a clan reduced to a single survivor was finally beginning a new chapter.
Today marked more than the union of two people and the beginning of the Uchiha clan's restoration.
The ceremony was held within the expansive grounds of the Hyuga Estate, where elegant pavilions, white silk banners, and thousands of carefully arranged flowers transformed the estate into something almost ethereal. Guests had traveled from across the Five Great Nations to witness the historic occasion. Clan heads, village leaders, influential nobles, and even the Fire Daimyo himself occupied the rows prepared for the ceremony.
With so many distinguished figures gathered in one place, security had become a logistical nightmare.
Kakashi had spent weeks coordinating ANBU patrols, barrier teams, sensory units, and elite jonin throughout the estate. Rooftops were occupied by hidden sentries, every entrance was heavily guarded, and dozens of shinobi blended seamlessly among the guests. The preparations rivaled, if not surpassed, those made for Naruto's wedding.
Standing near the ceremonial grounds, Kakashi watched the bustling estate with a tired sigh before smiling beneath his mask.
It had certainly been a headache. But seeing the village celebrate the future of two people who had fought so hard to find happiness...He decided it had been worth every bit of trouble.
Next to Kakashi, Sasuke stood at the end of the flower-lined altar, his gaze fixed on the aisle where Hinata would soon appear. To everyone else, he looked exactly as he always did. Calm, composed, and unreadable. But Kakashi had known him for too many years to be fooled.
Every few seconds, Sasuke's right hand slowly curled into a fist before relaxing again. Then, almost exactly five seconds later, he repeated the motion without even realizing he was doing it. His breathing was measured, yet just a little shallower than usual.
The legendary Uchiha, the man who had faced Kage, tailed beasts, and gods without flinching...Was nervous.
A small smile crept beneath Kakashi's mask. He reached over and rested a reassuring hand on Sasuke's shoulder.
Sasuke glanced sideways.
"You've fought enemies capable of destroying entire countries," Kakashi said quietly, amusement dancing in his visible eye. "Yet somehow this is what's making you nervous."
Sasuke let out a slow breath through his nose.
"I've never cared about losing a fight." His eyes drifted back toward the aisle. "But today..." He paused, searching for the right words. "...I don't want anything to go wrong."
"It won't." Kakashi's smile softened.
Sasuke remained silent.
"I've watched you two stumble through misunderstandings, survive impossible missions, nearly lose each other more times than I'd like to remember, and somehow still end up here." Kakashi gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "If your relationship survived all that, a wedding ceremony isn't going to defeat you."
"I guess you're right." A faint chuckle escaped Sasuke.
"I usually am."
Sasuke rolled his eyes, though the corner of his mouth lifted into the smallest smile.
"Thank you...sensei."
Kakashi blinked. It had been years since Sasuke had called him that. He smiled warmly beneath his mask and gave Sasuke's shoulder one final pat.
"You've earned this day, Sasuke." His gaze shifted toward the grand entrance of the estate as music began to fill the air.
"And judging by the look on your face..." He chuckled softly. "...you won't have to wait for her much longer."
The ceremony itself was nothing short of beautiful.
As the Hyuga officiant recited the final vows, an almost sacred silence settled over the estate. Every guest watched with quiet anticipation until the long-awaited words finally echoed through the ceremonial grounds.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife."
A wave of applause broke the silence, followed by cheers that rolled across the estate. Naruto was the loudest by far, pumping both fists into the air while shouting his congratulations, much to Sakura's embarrassment. The rest of the Konoha Twelve laughed and joined in, their voices blending with the joyful celebration.
Sasuke rarely smiled in front of a crowd.
Yet when he looked at the woman beside him, now officially his wife, the faint smile on his face came effortlessly.
Hinata returned it with one just as radiant, her lavender eyes glistening with happy tears.
The ceremony marked more than the joining of two hearts.
It symbolized the reconciliation of two of Konoha's oldest clans, the promise of a new generation, and the beginning of a future both Sasuke and Hinata had fought so hard to earn.
As the afternoon gave way to evening, many of the distinguished guests gradually departed. The Fire Daimyo, foreign dignitaries, clan representatives, and nobles all offered their congratulations, generous gifts, and well wishes before beginning their journeys home.
The celebration that remained became far more intimate.
Only close friends and family stayed behind.
The formal atmosphere melted away, replaced by warm laughter, lively conversations, and the comfortable chaos that only loved ones could create. Children ran through the gardens beneath strings of lanterns, music drifted through the estate, and the scent of freshly prepared food filled the evening air.
Sasuke and Hinata were no longer symbols of history or representatives of powerful clans.
They were simply a husband and wife, surrounded by the people who had walked beside them through every hardship, celebrating the beginning of the life they would finally share together.
"What the hell is this?" Sasuke's voice was flat, but the deep furrow in his brows made everyone at the table glance in his direction.
He was staring at the small bowl that had been placed beside his meal and inside sat neatly sliced cubes of honeydew.
"Hm?" Hinata followed his gaze before her lips twitched.
The moment she realized what he was looking at, she pressed a hand over her mouth, failing to hide the quiet laugh that escaped her.
Across the table, Ino noticed immediately.
"Hinata? What's so funny?"
"...Nothing," Hinata answered, though another giggle betrayed her.
Everyone's curiosity shifted toward Sasuke. He remained perfectly still, looking at the bowl as though it had personally insulted his ancestors.
"What happened?" Naruto asked around a mouthful of food.
"I've told you a hundred times not to talk with your mouth full." Sakura smacked the back of his head with practiced precision.
"Ow... but what happened?" Naruto swallowed hurriedly and rubbed the back of his head.
Ino leaned over slightly, following Sasuke's line of sight and her eyes landed on the fruit, then she slowly looked back at him.
"...Sasuke-kun..."
"...What?" He immediately knew where this was going.
"Do you... not like honeydew?"
The table fell silent and Sasuke looked away.
"I..." He hesitated for a fraction of a second. "...don't particularly care for it."
There was another beat of silence, then Kiba burst into laughter so hard he nearly knocked over his drink.
"No way!" he barked between laughs. "The legendary Uchiha Sasuke has an actual weakness!"
"You're telling me the guy who fought Kaguya... lost to a melon?" Naruto slammed both hands onto the table, laughing loud enough for nearby guests to glance over.
"...That's unexpectedly troublesome." Even Shikamaru let out a quiet chuckle.
"If you're not eating it..." Choji calmly reached over and stole the untouched bowl from in front of Sasuke.
"Be my guest." He sighed.
Choji smiled happily and immediately added it to his growing collection of desserts.
"All these years...and this is how we find out." Sakura shook her head with an amused smile.
The entire table erupted into laughter. Even Kakashi, seated a few chairs away, lowered his forehead into one hand as his shoulders quietly shook. Beside Sasuke, Hinata's laughter had become impossible to contain. She leaned lightly against his shoulder, tears gathering at the corners of her eyes from laughing so much.
Sasuke sighed the sigh of a man who had accepted that his reputation had just suffered irreversible damage.
"...You're enjoying this far too much." He glanced sideways at his wife.
"I really am." Hinata looked up at him, her smile bright enough to steal away any irritation he might have felt. She reached beneath the table and gently intertwined her fingers with his.
"But don't worry." She leaned close enough that only he could hear her. "I won't serve you honeydew tonight."
"Thank you." Sasuke relaxed.
"...Tomorrow, though?" A mischievous sparkle entered her lavender eyes.
Sasuke sighed and closed his eyes. "...I married the wrong Hyuga.” He said earning him a light swat on the arm.
Three Years Later...
Life inside the Uchiha household no longer resembled the quiet home it had once been. The mornings were loud, the afternoons were louder, and the evenings…The evenings were pure, delightful chaos.
Tiny footsteps thundered across the polished wooden floors, followed by peals of laughter that bounced off every wall like sunshine in sound form.
“Shion! Hikaru!” Hinata called from the kitchen, carrying steaming bowls to the table. “Dinner is ready!”
“We’re busy!” one little voice answered.
“We’re training!” the other shouted.
Hinata peeked into the hallway just in time to see two identical whirlwinds sprint past, each clutching a wooden kunai almost half the length of their chubby forearms.
“Training for what?” she asked, already smiling.
“To become stronger than Papa!”
“And faster than Uncle Naruto!”
The twins vanished around the corner before she could even pretend to scold them.
Hinata laughed under her breath.
They looked almost identical. Unruly black hair inherited from Sasuke, bright lavender eyes that belonged entirely to her. Shion, older by four whole minutes, was the slightly more timid one, always watching with quiet curiosity. Hikaru, meanwhile, had enough confidence for both of them and zero hesitation about charging headfirst into adventure.
Unfortunately for the peace of the house…They were equally energetic.
An entire hour had already passed since Hinata announced dinner. Neither boy had willingly approached the table.
The front door slid open.
“I’m home.” Sasuke stepped inside carrying several paper bags from the market.
The moment the twins heard his voice, the sound of tiny feet exploded down the hallway.
“Papa!” Both boys launched themselves at him before he had even removed his sandals. Sasuke instinctively bent his knees and caught one child under each arm with practiced ease, as though this exact ambush happened every single evening (because it did).
“Welcome home!” Hikaru laughed, tiny arms wrapping around his neck.
“What did you buy?” Shion asked immediately, already trying to peek inside the nearest bag with the determination of a tiny spy.
“Vegetables.”
The twins gasped as if he had just announced the end of the world.
“Anything else?”
“…Rice.”
Another dramatic, heartbroken gasp.
Sasuke’s lips curled upwards.
“There might be fish.”
The boys exchanged skeptical looks.
Then Hikaru’s eyes lit up with sudden, brilliant hope.
“Papa!”
“What?”
“…Did you buy honeydew?”
Silence.
Sasuke stared at his youngest son. Then at the paper bags. Then back at Hikaru.
“…Yes.” He sighed in defeat.
The twins erupted.
“Honeydew!”
“Our favorite!”
Before Sasuke could react, both boys dove into one of the bags and triumphantly lifted out a perfectly ripe honeydew melon together, holding it aloft like a sacred treasure.
Their cheers echoed through the entire house. Hinata leaned against the kitchen doorway, trying very hard not to laugh. She knew exactly how much her husband despised the fruit. Sasuke looked at the melon with the same expression he usually reserved for particularly annoying missing-nins.
“I still don’t understand how two children carrying my blood enjoy that thing.”
“It’s delicious!” Hikaru protested, bouncing on his toes.
“The best fruit ever!” Shion agreed, nodding so hard his hair flopped.
“It’s objectively not.”
“It is!”
“It isn’t.”
“It iiiis!”
Sasuke sighed the long-suffering sigh of a man who had accepted defeat years ago.
“I only bought it because you two like it.”
The twins immediately wrapped their little arms around his waist, pressing their faces into his coat.
“You’re the best, Papa!” “We love you!”
His shoulders relaxed almost instantly.
“…I know.” He smirked.
Hinata smiled softly from the doorway. No matter how much Sasuke complained about honeydew, he had never once forgotten to buy one whenever he visited the market. He hated the fruit. But he loved his sons far more than he hated it.
Shion lifted the melon over his head with both hands, little arms trembling with effort.
“Mama!”
“Yes?”
“Can we eat honeydew before dinner?”
“…No.” Hinata blinked.
The twins looked at each other. A silent, mischievous conversation passed between them.
“…Don’t.” Sasuke recognized that look immediately.
Too late.
The boys took off running; honeydew clutched carefully between them like the world’s most precious cargo.
“We’ll eat it now!”
“Dinner later!”
“I’ll get the one heading toward the kitchen,” Sasuke said.
“I’ll take the other,” Hinata whispered.
Husband and wife exchanged a knowing glance.
Three… Two… One.
The twins darted between them. In one fluid motion, Sasuke scooped Hikaru into his arms while Hinata caught Shion around the waist with ease.
“Wha…?!”
“No fair!”
“You cheated!”
“There is no cheating,” Sasuke chuckled, effortlessly holding the squirming little boy over his shoulder. “There is only strategy.”
“Daddy used Sharingan!”
“He always uses Sharingan!”
“Mama! Papa cheated!” Hinata couldn’t stop laughing as Shion kicked his little legs dramatically, still clutching the melon.
She kissed the top of his head.
“…I miss the quiet.” Sasuke looked at the ceiling as though asking the heavens for patience.
“No, you don’t.” Hinata laughed so hard she had to wipe tears from the corners of her eyes.
He looked at his wife, then at the two laughing boys in their arms. The house was loud, messy, chaotic, and nothing ever stayed where it belonged anymore.
And somehow…It was everything he had once believed he would never have.
A family.
Sasuke looked at his sons before speaking.
“Dinner.”
“No!” Hikaru yelled.
“Bath.”
“No!” Shion yelled.
“Bed.”
“NO!” Both twins yelled.
He glanced at Hinata, still holding a wriggling Hikaru and the now slightly endangered melon.
“…Think Kakashi would take them for a week?” The two little boys squirmed dramatically.
“We surrender!”
“We surrender!”
“Too late, you’ll be going with grandpa Kakashi starting tomorrow,” Hinata laughed. “But let’s go have dinner first.”
“Honeydew after,” Sasuke added, carefully catching the melon before it could escape again.
The twins looked at one another before grinning the widest, brightest grins.
“Deal!”
They each planted an exaggerated, sticky kiss on Sasuke’s cheeks and he remained perfectly still.
“Since when did they learn bribery?” he raised his eyebrow.
“I don’t know but it looks like it worked.” Hinata giggled.
“It always works,” Hikaru grinned, looking far too proud of himself.
“They’re very manipulative.” Sasuke glanced at Hinata.
“I wonder where they learned that.” Hinata smiled knowingly.
“They certainly didn’t get it from me.”
For a brief, perfect moment, the house filled with nothing but laughter. Toy kunais were scattered across the floor, tiny sandals had somehow ended up on top of a bookshelf, and one perfectly innocent honeydew had nearly become the center of a high-speed chase.
Years ago, Sasuke had believed he would spend the rest of his life alone.
Now he stood in the middle of a noisy home with a wife who genuinely loved him, two boys who adored him, and a melon he still couldn’t stand. He looked at the twins already arguing over who would get the bigger slice after dinner and shook his head with the faintest, softest smile.
“…I still hate honeydew.”
“We know!” the twins answered in perfect, cheerful unison.
“But you love us more!”
Sasuke looked at their hopeful little faces and let out a quiet breath of complete surrender.
“…Unfortunately for me…” A small, genuine smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. “…you’re right.”
