Chapter Text
Shisui was an exceptional Shinobi. He had already awakened two tomoes of his Sharingan, was a prodigy and also, Itachi’s best friend. He could read his cousin like an open book. It was never a secret from him about Itachi and Izumi. Whatever they had, was definitely more then they thought it to be.
It was frustrating sometimes how dense Itachi could be. While he was a brilliant ninja, he always sucked at the matters of the heart. Shisui assumed it was due to Uncle Fugaku’s genes.
He wouldn’t mind if everyone called him a gossiper. He was famous in the Uchiha District as the one who knew every household’s news. All Uchiha women swarmed near him to get him to spill the tea. But that didn’t mean he disrespected his sources. He was a secret keeper.
It had been long since he visited his cousins. Aunt Mikoto had invited him for dinner that evening, and Shisui, of course didn’t deny. He walked through the alleyways of Konoha shopping for groceries that Mikoto had asked him to bring while visiting.
He always saw Itachi and Izumi together in the market, it was completely normal. But this time, he abruptly stopped at the scene before him.
Kami!! Is what I’m seeing true? Little Sasuke with a Girl?!?!
Shisui was a great brother. Thus, he took upon himself to follow his little favorite cousin. For research purposes, of course.
The two munchkins, (Shisui decided he would call them that from now on) walked towards the forest lining the Uchiha District. Sasuke was walking forward with his hands in his pockets, while the girl with pink hair, (which Shisui noticed was an unusual hair color) followed him like a little puppy.
Oh, dear Sasuke. You need lessons on how to be a gentleman to little ladies.
Mentally noting to tell Itachi to teach his brother some manners, he continued following the pair towards the opening of a small river. He watched as Sasuke performed tricks with shuriken and the girl cheered for him everytime he hit a bullseye.
Heh, looks like our little brother has found an audience.
Sasuke, then performed the hand signs for Katon. He then blew a small stream of fire from his mouth, not very big to frighten the little girl, but enough to amaze her.
To Shisui’s surprise, the little girl was so happy, that she jumped calling Sasuke’s name and hugged the youngest Uchiha. What surprised him more was, that his stoic cousin, who ‘hated physical touch’ gave in to her hug. He snaked his small arms around her carefully, as if contemplating his actions. Ultimately, he decided to just go for it and hugged her back, his ears turning red.
I was wrong. She’s not just an ‘audience’, but our Sasuke’s little girlfriend!! Hah! Need to tell this to Aunt Mikoto.
Shisui smirked as he left the little munchkins alone and went towards the Uchiha household.
Mikoto was humming a sweet melody as she prepared for the evening’s dinner. She had told Itachi to invite Shisui. It had been weeks since she saw last saw him and tonight was the perfect opportunity, since both her eldest son and his cousin were back from their respective missions.
“Tadaima.” Itachi’s voice echoed in the quiet house.
“Okaeri Itachi.”
“Good afternoon, Aunt Mikoto.” A sweet feminine voice sounded.
Mikoto smiled as she turned around, recognizing the person.
“Well, if it isn’t Izumi!! Welcome dear.”
“Oka-san, can Izumi-san join us for dinner tonight?”
Mikoto smirked at her son.
“Of course. Why not? I just know that everybody would be very happy to have her with us. She’s family, aren’t you Izumi?”
A simple comment was enough for the two teens to blush profusely. As much as Mikoto felt sympathy for teasing them, she had her own way to have fun.
“Tadaima! Aunt Mikoto where are you?”
“Ah. Okaeri Shisui-kun. Have you brought the things I asked for?”
“Hai! You know me Aunt. I am always eager to help you, especially when there are dinners like these.”
Mikoto chuckled as she told the three teens to have a seat at the table until she finished the main dishes.
Shisui eyed the pair in front of him. Itachi pulled the cushion from under the table for Izumi, while the latter thanked him softly.
Ugh. There they go acting like a couple again. Just get married already!
“Well, cousin. You won’t believe what I saw in the forest today.”
The pair looked at him, their eyebrows raised in question.
“Looks like our little Sasuke has a crush.”
“WHO HAS A WHAT??”
Mikoto rushed from the kitchen at the speed of light. Her eyes were widened, as though she had a hard time believing that her youngest was with a girl.
“Oh. I thought you knew Aunt.”
Mikoto looked at Itachi. He gulped under his mother’s piercing gaze.
“So, you knew too, Itachi?”
“Hn…Just last week when I went to pick him up from the academy.”
The three teens observed as Mikoto’s face went through various emotions. She then settled on her excited face.
“OH!! Tell me! Is she his classmate? A friend? How does she look?”
“Aunt...I’ll tell you. The girl is definitely Sasuke’s age, but what I thought was unusual was her hair....It’s pink. And well I guess her eyes were Green?”
Izumi squealed. “Oh. That means she would be so cute! Am I right Itachi-kun?”
Itachi nodded smiling at her.
Mikoto then went into deep thought.
“So then, the flower that Sasuke brought home was-”
“-A gift from that girl.” Itachi completed his mother’s sentence.
“Woah. Now that’s news to me.” Shisui exclaimed.
Mikoto and Izumi couldn’t help but giggle.
“What are you all chatting so loudly about?”
Everybody turned their heads towards the owner of the voice, only to find the head of Uchiha looking at them with his eyebrows raised.
“Ah. Dear! You are just in time!”
Meanwhile in the forest, Sasuke was getting himself bandaged by his friend.
“Sasuke-kun is amazing, but you should be careful too. You almost burned your cheeks while doing that fire-thingy.”
Sasuke looked at her face as she scolded him for his carelessness. He suddenly thought that she looked cute while being angry. Not that he will ever tell her that. Instead, he opted to say,
“It’s not fire-thingy, it’s called Katon. It is a signature jutsu of the Uchiha.”
“O-oh. I see.....”
That ended the conversation and an awkward silence ensued.
“Umm.....It’s done. I should get going now, or else Mama will scold me for coming home late.”
She said as she got up and dusted her dress, readying herself to go home.
Don’t tell me, you don’t know her name?
Sasuke’s eyes widened as he remembered his brother’s words. He quickly got up and stopped her by catching her sleeve.
“Umm....S-sorry.” He spoke, embarrassed.
“Sorry? For what?”
“That day...I spoke....rudely....”
The girl’s cheeks became pink.
“Ah. N-no it’s okay, Sasuke-kun was busy.”
“Don’t like that guy.”
“What?”
Tch. Why did I say that?
" I mean, because you should pay attention in class. You excel in theory, but practicals are difficult for you, aren’t they? Become a good kunoichi first.”
And because I don’t like whoever your crush is.
“Actually, Sasuke-kun, y-you are-”
“Me, what?”
“No. N-nothing.”
Another awkward silence passed between them.
“You didn’t tell me your name yet.” Sasuke said looking at the river nearby as if it was suddenly very important.
He glanced at her from the corner of his eye, and saw her jade eyes widening in realization.
“Ah! I thought you weren’t interested.”
Tch. What does she think I am like?
“Then tell me now.” He pressed.
“Haruno Sakura.”
Haruno Sakura. Sakura.....as in Cherry-blosooms.
“Then, I should go now. Bye Sasuke-kun.”
He saw as she smiled her usual toothy grin at him, her cheeks flushed like her hair. She trotted away towards the village road.
“Bye. Sakura.”
As Sasuke walked back to his home, he couldn’t help but smile too.
Sakura, huh?
He was right when he first saw her. She reminded him of cherry-blossoms.
