If You Were Anything, You'd Be Stars

Chapter Text

It was the beginning of November, the weather was changing quickly and everyone was expecting snow by the end of the month. It was also Sirius’s birthday tomorrow. He didn’t feel like celebrating at all. His mind was a mess. He needed time to sort through it but it seemed like no one wanted to give him that. It wasn’t even about Remus anymore. Yes, Remus played a significant role in this but that was just the start of this storm that was happening inside Sirius’s head. The only gift he wants for his birthday isn’t anyone’s to give so he really isn’t looking forward to tomorrow.

He was just laying on his bed, not wanting to get up, knowing he will miss breakfast but what is new, when suddenly Regulus with Mary and James stormed into his room.

“Sirius come to the hall!” Regulus screamed all excited. “Now!” he added when the only thing he got from Sirius was a dirty look and Sirius wasn’t about to argue. He needs to get out of bed anyway so he might as well take a look on the thing that made Regulus this happy at ten in the morning.

He lazily got dressed, nothing extra, just to look presentable if it’s guests. They were expecting Cygnus and his daughters. Him and Orion wanted to have a talk.

When he was finally dressed, Mary practically dragged him to the main hall where he saw something he couldn’t believe. This must be a dream, right? Remus can’t be here. What would he be doing here? It’s not like he can just arrive. Except it was Remus. Remus who was nervously waiting for Sirius to do something. Sirius did something. He ran towards the tall, now king, and jumped into his arms, hugging him so tight he was surprised Remus can breathe. He didn’t care about king Orion watching this in shock or that Remus wasn’t alone. All he cared about was that Remus is here. He is actually here for him.

Remus was so relieved when Sirius ran to him. There was a part of him that thought Sirius no longer wanted to see him but now he’s in his arms and Remus could only cry from happiness.

“Shhh, I’m here sweetheart. I’m here.” Remus choked out still not ready to let him go. He doesn’t think he ever will be . Sirius just kept crying. Remus didn’t mind. He figured Sirius probably needed this.

“I missed you!” Sirius said mid sobs.

“I missed you too.” Remus smiled. “So much,” he added, one hand holding Sirius up, the other in his hair already.

“You’re here.” Sirius whined.

“I’m here.” Remus confirmed, just so happy he gets to be here, so happy this all worked out. “I will put you down now, okay?” Remus said just to warn him and he did let go just a little bit to place Sirius back on the ground and when he could finally see into his lover’s eyes, he smiled and wiped the teers of his face. Sirius still didn’t let go, keeping his hands locked behind Remus’s neck.

“Will someone explain to me what is going on?” Orion said loudly and before Regulus could react, Lyal did.

“Let the kids be Orion. They both needed this. The least you can do when you’re forcing a marriage on your children is to let them be with the one they love when they can.” Lyal- the now retired king and Remus’s father- said, giving Orion a pat on his shoulder, shutting him up.

“This- this is the only thing I wanted for my birthday.” Sirius was still sobbing.

“You scared me to death Sirius. Don’t ever do that again.” Remus said, eyes watery still.

“Can we talk about it later?” Sirius asked doe eyed, not wanting to get into that right now and Remus knew they had time so he agreed, for now.

“There’s someone eager to meet you.” Remus smiled through tears, nodding towards his father who was now standing behind Sirius. Sirius turned away from Remus to look and when he realized who that man is he quickly tried to wipe all of his tears away to look at least a little more decent.

“You must be king Lyal.” Sirius said, wiping his face one more time before he bowed, embarrassed.

“Oh, honey, no. Don’t do that. I am only a father now. The king was just crying in your arms. You must be Sirius.” Lyal joked. Looking unbothered by the state in which Sirius is right now.

“I’m so sorry sir, I didn’t want to meet you like this. Usually, I’m a little more put together.” Sirius said, wiping the new tears away.

“Just call me Lyal, okay? No need for that formal talk and don’t apologize. You look just as beautiful as he told me you were even with the tears.” Lyal said, making Sirius tear up again. “We’ll have enough time to talk tomorrow. Go and be with that lovesick idiot now, okay? I will go talk to your father,” he smiled. As soon as he gave him the thumbs up, Sirius turned back to Remus, kissing him deeply right then and there in front of the whole castle to see, not caring one bit. The only person who was surprised by this was king Orion but just shook his head, disappointed and left to speak to Lyal.

Regulus, Mary and James were all watching this reunion with so much joy they looked like absolute weirdos. Barty had to step in and tell them they’re indeed being fucking weir and to give them some privacy but even then- Barty was also pushing back tears. It was the greatest gift, seeing Sirius being himself again, and if all it takes is Remus’s presence then all four of them will fight for it. Yes, four because Barty isn’t a total asshole, he just acts like one.

Sirius and Remus finally stopped to look at each other again, full of joy but the sadness was still there, now hidden. They had so much to talk about but at the same time, they didn’t want to talk at all. At least Sirius didn’t. He knew where this talking thing will lead to and he wasn’t ready so instead he took Remus’s hand and he basically ran to his bedroom where he pushed Remus against the door as soon as they closed, locking them for good measure.

“Sweetheart, you need to stop now or we’re not stopping at all.” Remus everything but moaned. Sirius was holding the side of his neck with one hand and his waist with the other, kissing his neck and his jaw, leaving one or two marks on him just because he couldn’t hold back.

“What about this makes you think I want to stop?” Sirius grinned at him, finally pulling back. Sirius was the view right now. He was looking up at Remus, his hands now both connected behind his neck a bit of saliva dripping from his lips and his hair a little messy from when Remus’s hand was going through them. Remus was a goner. There’s no way he will survive with this right in front of him.

“Changed my mind, please don’t.” Remus said quickly when he realized he was staring for way too long and he switched their positions so that Sirius would be the one pressed to the door, kissing him right after that. Sirius didn’t even have time to laugh at him before Remus bit his neck and all he could do was moan. Remus could’ve finished at that alone. If Sirius was the devil, no one would be able to resist the temptation, Remus was convinced of that.

“I missed you.” Sirius said again with a smile. They were laying naked on the bed now. Sirius found his place on Remus’s chest again, drawing all sorts of shapes on his stomach.

“I can see that.” Remus chuckled at that, going through Sirius’s hair again. “I missed you too,” he then said a little quieter and pressed a kiss on the top of his head. “Your hair is longer.” Remus pointed out. He was right, Sirius’s hair was now almost covering his whole back.

“It’s been six months. Hair grows.” Sirius chuckled. They could be talking about anything and the topic is his hair, how silly.

“You haven’t cut it since I saw you last?” Remus was surprised.

“You told me you liked them long.” Sirius mumbled, embarrassed.

“I don’t care about your hair. You’re beautiful no matter what.” Remus smiled. “Though, it is very beautiful and it suits you,” he added. Truth is, he is obsessed with Sirius’s hair. He just doesn’t want Sirius to think that he can’t cut it.

“Have I ever told you that you’re beautiful?” Sirius wondered, looking up at Remus.

“You did once. It was the best day of my life.” Remus chuckled.

“You are so dramatic.” Sirius giggled.

“I don’t think you understand just how special you are.” Remus sighed. “I would give up everything just to be near you.”

“You might have told me that one before. I still think you’re full of shit.” Sirius laughed and Remus did too.

“You’re wearing the ring still.” Remus noticed and took his hand into his own, studying it from up close.

“I told you I am.” Sirius smiled, pleased with himself when he saw the look on Remus’s face.

“I thought that maybe- maybe after you stopped writing back to me you might have taken it off.” Remus said, realizing that this will be a hard conversation.

“Remus,” Sirius sighed. “I can see now why you’d think that but I didn’t stop because I didn’t want to talk to you anymore. I stopped because I realized that the only thing making me happy was a letter from you. My weeks became just a waiting time for your letter. It scared me. It made me think about a lot of things. It made me scared that I would never be able to enjoy life without you and then my father started talking about my wedding and I realized that I will be locked in a marriage where my wife has a beautiful girlfriend by her side and I will spend my life sitting on a throne that I don’t want, looking at a happy couple wishing it was me and you. That made me depressed and I need some time to think about my life and how I want it to look like. I can’t spend my whole life sad. That’s why I stopped writing. And I’m sorry I scared you, I really am. I wasn’t thinking about that.” Sirius explained. It was hard to say all this aloud but he knew Remus needed to know. He owed him an explanation.

“Sweetheart- I-“ Remus started, not sure what he would say to that but needing to say something. He was stopped by Sirius’s hand on his lips. He now got up on his elbows to look Remus into the eyes.

“Don’t say it. Don’t say anything. This is my battle. You can’t be responsible for my life Remus. You have a whole kingdom to worry about. It’s not fair of me to expect you to worry about me this much. I know you want to and I know that if it was up to you, you would just drop everything and come to my rescue just like you did today but you can’t do that. I need to figure this out.” Sirius said, only ten he let Remus speak.

“You are so much more mature than I was at your age.” Remus stated, stroking his cheek.

“You’re not that much older to be saying this.” Sirius laughed.

“I love you.” Remus said. It really just escaped from his mouth. He wasn’t about to say it but seeing Sirius like this, what else was he supposed to say.

“I love you too.” Sirius smiled sweetly, leaving Remus in shock.

“Say that again.” Remus urged.

“I love you. Miluju tě. Te amo. Je t’aime de tout mon cœur.” Sirius said, kissing the bridge of his nose. “I needed to finally say it back. It’s been haunting me, not saying it before you left.” Sirius chuckled.

“Já tě tak moc miluju, že mám chuť tě prostě vzít a utéct s tebou někam daleko kde nám nic nebude bránit v tom, aby jsme byli spolu. Jediné co mi brání je jak sobecké by to bylo vůči mému království.” Remus said. Knowing that Sirius doesn’t understand. That was the whole point. He can be selfish enough to say that at least.

“Can’t we though?” Sirius looked at him desperately, again, leaving Remus in shock.

“You- understood that?” He asked, confused as fuck.

“You were saying we should run away, right? I told you I was studying.” Sirius smiled.

“How are you this perfect?” Remus asked, hugging Sirius once again, needing to feel his body on his.

“I want to run away with you.” Sirius said, letting that hang between them before he continued. “I know we can’t but still, sometimes I think about it before falling asleep. We take our horses and just disappear from this kingdom, find a village very far away and start a new life. Just us.”

“What about Regulus? You would miss him too much.” Remus chuckled.

“That’s the thing. I can’t leave him. There’re so few people that I actually care about but I love them too much to just leave.” Sirius sighed.

“Who are they?” Remus asked.

“You, Regulus, James, Mary and Jonatan. I don’t count Barty, no one counts Barty.” Sirius grinned. “But I think I could survive without James, Mary and Jonny so it’s just Regulus who’s ruining this fantasy for me,” he chuckled.

“I just have you and my dad. It’s a one big irony really because I have many people who I could potentially call friends but I wouldn’t miss any of them like that. And I would miss my dad a lot but it’s more like a responsibility for him is keeping me back. He only has me now and I can’t leave him alone.” Remus said.

“Your dad seems amazing. God, Regulus is so lucky. Mary’s dad is weird.” Sirius frowned.

“He hates Regulus remember?” Remus laughed.

“Still?” Sirius started laughing too.

“Yeah, he doesn’t mean it though. I still think he’s gonna give him a hard time.” Remus grinned. “We need to go for lunch. I forgot about the time. You must be hungry.” Remus realized and got up, leaving Sirius whining on the bed.

“No we don’t. We can grab something to eat later. Come back here.” Sirius cried out.

“You need to eat.” Remus said sharply, making Sirius realize what this is.

“Remus, did he tell you that I don’t eat?” Sirius looked at him, looking already over it.

“He may have mentioned that, yes.” Remus replied, scared that this will resort in another bucket of tears.

“Me not joining them for meals doesn’t mean I stopped eating.” Sirius looked at him with the ‘are you fucking joking?’ look. “I eat three meals a day. I wouldn’t do that. I don’t want to hurt myself. I know that that letter scared you, I really regret sending it but it was me having a breakdown. You can stop worrying,” he added, standing up to go hug him one more time.

“I would still prefer to see you get lunch with us.” Remus smiled, not entirely convinced, as he kissed his forehead.

“Uh, fine. I could have given you another blowjob but if you insist.” Sirius shrugged his shoulders and tried to walk to his closet.

“You are playing dirty!” Remus said. He couldn’t believe the words that just came from Sirius’s mouth.

“That was my intention, yes.” Sirius called from the closet.

When he came out dressed Remus’s jaw almost dropped. It was obvious that he’s trying to fix the first impression with Lyal because the flowy shirt that doesn’t button all the way up with his hair in a high ponytail with a few pieces left untouched and earrings very obviously made from moonstones mad him look like a miracle. Remus felt underdressed in his very expensive clothing.

“You look absolutely breathtaking.” Remus didn’t waste a second complimenting him.

“Do you think your dad will forget the state in which he saw me earlier?” Sirius looked at his with desperation in his eyes.

“I’m sure he will forget his own name when he sees this. I have!” Remus said, coming closer to steal one more kiss from the beauty in front of him.

“Good. We can go then.” Sirius said, proudly taking Remus’s offered arm as they walked through the halls.

“Ah! I was just looking for the two of you!” Lyal called out when he saw them.

“Good thing we found you first.” Remus joked and got hit on the chest by Sirius because of it, making Lyal chuckle.

“Good to know you’re teaching him some manners Sirius,” he grinned. “You look stunning by the way.”

“You think so?” Sirius got all giddy and happily looked at Remus.

“Oh honey, I thought Remus was exaggerating, as people in love often do, but I don’t think he was saying enough.” Lyal smiled.

“You’re too kind.” Sirius blushed.

“Why were you looking for us dad?” Remus asked to go back on track.

“Oh, yes, I had a long talk with your father, Sirius, and nothing came of it as expected but when I reminded him that he is gambling with the feelings of the king, he agreed to not make a scene out of it as long as Remus still agrees with marrying your brother.” Lyal explained, still bitter about it.

“Of course.” Sirius sighed.

“This is your battle now. You have to decide what you’re going to do.” Lyal said, looking at Remus specifically.

“I know dad.” Remus nodded.

After that they walked to the dining hall together. Everyone was already there, waiting just for them. Queen Walburga was the only one to got up and go towards them and Sirius knew this will be bad. As soon as she was close enough to the young prince, she raised her hand and slapped Sirius hard on his cheek. Sirius didn’t even flinch, his only reaction was when his head moved to the right with the force and after that he kept his head low.

“How dare you!” she screamed. Everyone became silent in that moment, looking away from them as if it was some kind of rule leaving only Lyal and his son staring blankly at the scene. “Your father is too much of a pussy to say anything to you but I am not. This is unacceptable. You are embarrassing yourself! More than that you are embarrassing your father and me and this whole kingdom! What gave you the audacity to just walk around with that man, hm? Because I sure as hell didn’t teach you that!” she screamed and raised her hand to hit him again. And Sirius just stood there, ready for whatever was coming. Remus was not though. When he saw, Sirius didn’t plan to guard himself, he stopped her hand with his own.

“That’s enough!” he said sharply. Not believing his eyes.

“King Remus, I am not your mother to tell you what to do but I sure as hell am his so let me go and step back.” Walburga said, piercing him with her gaze.

“You don’t act like one right now,” escaped Remus’s mouth and Lyal closed his eyes, too scared to look what this will do to the queen.

“If you think that you’re crowned king and suddenly you can do whatever you want, you are wrong. This is my kingdom, my house and my som. Step out of it, now!” she gave him one more chance but Remus was set on stopping this now.

“King Orion, are you allowing your queen to beat your children? I wonder what people would think of that. Also, do you find her tone acceptable for when she speaks to the king of another kingdom?” Remus shifted his attention to the king instead, realizing this woman won’t stop on her own.

“No, it’s not acceptable. Walburga, sit down. You are embarrassing me!” Orion said sharply, biting his teeth. It was obvious he only did that because of Remus’s words but that was enough for Remus right now.

Walburga did sit after that, but she made sure to send a dirty look Sirius’s way before that. As soon as she was out of reach, Remus stood in front of Sirius, raising his chin up to look if he’s okay.

“I’m fine, let’s just eat,” Sirius said, not meeting Remus’s eyes.

“You are not fine, your mother just his you and you did nothing.” Remus got angry but he kept his voice now.

“Please.” Sirius looked at him. Eyes watery and his cheek red from the slap. Remus took three deep breaths to calm down before nodding and leading Sirius to the table.

The lung was silent. No one dared to speak after what just happened. No one even moved outside of bringing the fork to their mouths and when they we done eating Sirius quickly stood up to leave. Regulus and Remus followed right after him.

“Sirius don’t run away from me for god’s sake!” Regulus called out when his older brother started running to the greenhouse.

“Fuck off Regulus!” Sirius screamed when his brother ran after him and grabbed his hand to make him stop, leaving Remus lost behind them.

“Don’t tell me to fuck off, asshole!” Regulus yelled too, not angry though. “She will calm down. Don’t take her words too seriously.” Regulus tried. He knew this isn’t about the slap, it never is.

“Don’t feed me this bullshit Reg. She’s a witch and she hates me.” Sirius snapped at him.

“What going on?” Remus finally found them. “What was that about? Is this normal here? Regulus you just sat there, not even looking, and Sirius you could have stopped her but you just stood there and took it.” Remus asked, confused and worried. Sirius didn’t even look at him so Regulus responded.

“I know you’re not used to this Remus. You had the blessing of having a mom who loves you but we don’t have that in common, okay? You want to know what would happen if I stood up and did something to stop her? Sirius would suffer more. This was nothing. It was only a slap to embarrass him, to make him feel like shit. She would have done much worse if I interfered. What is even funnier is that if it was me instead of Sirius, father wouldn’t even blink because I don’t matter here. Sirius gets all the shit because he cares and I don’t matter. This is how it works here and this is how we grew up. You said she doesn’t act like a mother right now. Well guess what. This is the only mother we know so stop shaming me for not standing up to her.” Regulus said sharply and that was the moment it hit Remus. He was told that their family is fucked up but he still thought that they were just dramatic but they weren’t this is the reality.

Remus didn’t know what to say to that. He really was clueless. He couldn’t say anything to make this better. He has never dealt with anything like this and it shows. Regulus knows how to make Sirius feel better though, so maybe he needs to let him do that.

“I’m sorry. I will give you some space,” he said with a pity smile sent Regulus’s way.

“I will come for you when he’s ready.” Regulus said, grateful that Remus understands this at least. “Come here.” Regulus said, pulling Sirius in for a hug when Remus left. “Enough screaming, okay?” he added when he saw the ugly look Sirius gave him.

“I thought this will stop now, when we have people over. What am I even going to say to him. He will want to know everything.” Sirius whined.

“Tell him everything then. You know you can. Tell him how much you hate her and how much hating her hurts you. Tell him about how miserable she makes you feel and then tell him you’re still trying to love her anyway. Complain about how much you hate caring so much. Tell him that all you want is to be loved and let him love you the way he does. Or just tell him you don’t want to talk about it and tell him all this when you do. It’s Remus, Siri. He will understand.” Regulus said.

“How do you and James talk about these ugly things?” Sirius asked desperately.

“We don’t. He just holds me while I cry because he knows I don’t want to talk about it.” Regulus admitted. It was weird talking about his relationship with his brother.

“He doesn’t mind?” Sirius asked.

“No. He knows that some things you just don’t want to talk about. He doesn’t tell me everything. Loving someone doesn’t mean telling them everything. It’s about being there for each other.” Regulus stroked his hair.

“I love you Reg. I know I don’t say it often enough but I really do love you.” Sirius looked at him.

“Ew, okay. I love you too but damn, do we have to?” Regulus grinned and that made Sirius chuckle. “I will give you some time alone, what do you think?” Regulus asked, seeing as Sirius was already spacing out.

“Yeah,” he just said.

He spent maybe a whole hour just staring into a wall, thinking about everything, not coming into any conclusion that would magically make him okay. Lyal found him now, frowning when he saw the young boy sitting by himself.

“I take it that my son didn’t have any understanding for your situation,” he said when he sat down next to Sirius who jerked away a little in shock. He didn’t expect anyone to be here. “It does make me feel good. Means that I did my job well.” Lyal continued.

“You did. He’s amazing.” Sirius smiled but the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“You know, I had a mother like yours. That’s why I made sure my son has all the love he needs. Maybe I coddled him too much though. He doesn’t know what it feels like to struggle. He needs someone like you to pull him back to the ground when he gets all sparkles and rainbows,” he giggled.

“You will love having Regulus around then- very realistic; when he was asked if the glass is half full or empty, he said that there is a glass and it has water in it.” Sirius grinned.

“This is not about Regulus. It’s about you and you are giving up too fast. You will have a choice Sirius. A year from now, there is going to be a choice to be made and no one can force you to pick what they want. You will be picking and what ever choice you make, that choice will be yours and you can’t blame your parent for the outcome of that choice. Whatever happens, you already have home in our kingdom. Remember that, yeah?” Lyal said. This made Sirius cried. He knew exactly what Lyal was referring to but he didn’t have any fight left in him anymore so he just cried. “Oh honey, come here.” Lyal offered and Sirius accepted the hug in a record time.

“I don’t think I’ve ever received a hug from anyone other than my friends and Remus.” Sirius sobbed.

“When you need one from your dad, a dad not a father, my arms are always open. I don’t have to know you to think of you as a son. My son loves you and that is all that really matters, okay.” Lyal said, making Sirius cried even more.

“Don’t be mean to Regulus if I’m not strong enough to make this right, okay?” Sirius said after a while.

“Oh, I will. Because Remus told me about him and your friend and if he’s stupid enough to get engaged with a stranger when the person he loves is right there, he deserver it.” Lyal frowned.

“He’s a good kid.” Sirius said, also frowning but not letting Lyal go just yet.

“I know he is. You’re both just cowards.” Lyal chuckled.

“Hey!” Sirius protested.

“Come on sweetie, let’s go for a walk.” Lyal patted him on the back and got up so Sirius did too.

“This is where he gets it from then.” Sirius smiled, following Lyal who was looking around the greenhouse.

“What?” Lyal turned to him, not understanding what Sirius means.

“He calls me sweetheart.” Sirius’s smile just grew.

“Of course he does.” Lyal looked to the ground and shook his head, smiling.

“What does that mean?” Sirius asked, curious.

“That’s what I called Hope.” Lyal said, smiling at Sirius with a drop of sadness in his eyes. “You remind me of her. I was a little skeptical when Remus told me he gave you her ring but when I saw you this morning- how you ran up to him- and when I saw with how much care he holds you, I realized that he knew what he was doing.” Lyal said, walking to another plant to stare at.

“How did you meet Hope? Remus told me she wasn’t royal.” Sirius wondered.

“No, she was a daughter of our gardener. She would sometimes come to help his father so they can finish the work sooner and he can come home with her. She hated me at first. She hated all royalty and the privileged so it took me some time before I convinced her to give me a chance. She would come with her father more frequently to hang out with me and I knew she was the one. My mother wasn’t pleased with my choice but father ultimately decided that if I want to marry her, he won’t stand in the way.” Lyal chuckled.

“That sounds beautiful.” Sirius smiled.

“Did you know that she had three miscarriages before Remus?” Lyal asked.

“She did? That’s awful.” Sirius said.

“Yes, each time the pregnancy got riskier but she wanted a child of her own more than anything. Remus is our miracle kid. She was babying him like crazy. That’s why he’s so entitled.” Lyal laughed.

“My mother got pregnant with me when she was barely nineteen years old. If Remus was your miracle, I was her biggest nightmare. Every time she looks at me, she sees the future that she didn’t get to have. She told me once that she really wishes she could love me but the only thing she feels is resentment.” Sirius shared.

“Yes, she was a young girl forced into a marriage she didn’t want with a child she doesn’t love. Now imagine what your children will think when they see their parent aren’t in love and their dad would love them a little more if they were Remus’s. There’s nothing more magical than raising kids with the person you love and when you do it right, the kids will aspire to do just that. Remember that Sirius.” Lyal said. Sirius wondered why it only took one conversation with Lyal for his head to be clearer.

“Is this what it feels like to have a dad?” Sirius asked, looking like he’s about to cry again.

“Yes, my dear.” Lyal smiled and caressed his cheek. “Now, let’s find my son for you. I’m sure he’s worried,” he said, offering his arm so Sirius grabbed his elbow and let him walk him to Remus’s room.

“Thank you, Lyal.” Sirius smiled at the older man when they reached the room.

“No need, honey. You can come to me anytime and when I’m not here, you know how to write a letter.” Lyal also smiled, patting him on the shoulder before going away.

Sirius knocked on the door and it only took a second before Remus opened them.

“Hi.” Sirius smiled nervously.

“Hi.” Remus repeated and let him in.

“So, I talked to your dad.” Sirius started, sitting on the bed.

“You did?” Remus asked, surprised but pleased. He knows his father has a way with words.

“Yes, he showed me what a dad should be like.” Sirius smiled when Remus sat next to him. “He’s amazing Remus. You’re very lucky to have him.”

“I know. He’s the best.” Remus nodded, curious to where this leads.

“He gave me a lot of clarity and a lot to think about at the same time but I feel much better. I think he fixed me somehow.” Sirius laughed.

“I’m glad you feel better. I had a talk with Regulus while you were gone.” Remus said.

“About what?” Sirius wondered.

“About a lot of stuff actually. I think we became real friends today.” Remus grinned. “I wanted to ask him for some tips. Like- what to do when you feel down. What usually works and how can I help,” he specified.

“You are just so sweet.” Sirius smiled and immediately crawled onto Remus’s lap to kiss him.

“I think that’s my line.” Remus grinned and kissed him again.

“You still didn’t tell me why you’re actually here and how long are you staying.” Sirius realized.

“Oh, I guess I didn’t.” Remus chuckled. “I knew I had to find a way in since I was worrying like crazy so me and Regulus were working together on a plan. Turns out asking for your fiancé to come and visit for your brother’s birthday isn’t that crazy of a request. We’ll be leaving the day after your birthday though.” Remus explained.

“So, we have no time at all. What else is new?” Sirius sighed.

“We are going to make this work Sirius. We knew we were doomed from the start so even being here right now is a privilege. We will figure something out.” Remus promised.

“Let’s just not do this, yeah? We need to pick an outfit for tomorrow.” Sirius quickly changed the subject. He had enough talk about the future already.

“Oh, show me the options then.” Remus smiled. When you have this little time together you truly learn to live in the moment, treasuring all the moments when you can just pretend you have forever.
