Chapter Text
To prepare for the U.A. entrance exam, Izuku had decided to train daily with his various quirks so he would be ready.
That day, he wanted to experiment with a very particular quirk, perhaps the most powerful one he possessed.
He touched the floor of his room and began reciting the list he had written down for the occasion.
"Rule one: fire causes no burns; rule two: drowning is impossible; rule three: all impacts are cushioned; rule four: shocks are harmless; rule five: falling is impossible; rule six: ice does not melt; rule seven: enhanced healing factor; rule eight: blades are blunted; rule nine: poison has no effect; rule ten: no blows to the head."
A few seconds later, Izuku felt as though a force field had formed all around him; only then did he lift his hand from the floor.
Quirk 10: Ten Rules
Grants the user the ability to create a force field extending roughly ten meters around them, imposing ten user-defined rules that everyone within the field must obey
To run a quick test, Izuku let himself fall backward, but a pink barrier enveloped his body and set him back on his feet.
Then, Izuku touched the floor to deactivate the force field; he repeated the process, reciting the rules more quickly this time.
He continued this cycle five more times, at which point he had to sit down and drink a glass of water for a five-minute break before resuming his training.
"Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon
That day, Izuku was training by a river, in a spot where the water ran deep.
He was "wearing" a suit resembling an iron furnace, featuring three slits on its "face," a handle on the head, and screws on the shoulders, three more on each hand and two on the chest.
Quirk 28: NRG
Grants the user the appearance of a furnace-like golem that acts as a containment suit for the pure green energy constantly radiating from its core
"Sink or swim, imagine." Izuku told himself, stepping into the water. The current was strong, but his shell was sturdy and resilient. Plus, he had training to do.
So, slowly and steadily, he made his way across the river in his massive metallic body.
Upon reaching the opposite bank, Izuku remarked "I can still refine this, but my time has improved."
He then picked up a piece of wood and began concentrating heat in the hand holding it; after ten minutes of maintaining a steady temperature, the wood finally caught fire.
"A bit concerning, but that’s what testing is for." Izuku noted, before continuing his heat-control training.
Izuku didn't say it out loud, but he preferred his more complex and unusual quirks over the simpler, more powerful ones, even though he was quite fond of his fire quirks.
The former were simply more versatile than the latter. That made them more fun to experiment with, too!
Of all the quirks he possessed, this one was a particular favorite of Izuku's, given that it had been the very first quirk he’d ever had.
So, he used his quirk to lift the water from the sink, which he had filled beforehand, into the form of tentacles, then quickly struck the jars and cans.
Quirk 1: Aquakinesis
Allows the user to manipulate the hydrogen atoms present in water
Next, he moved his hand to extend the water tentacles and lift the targets back up. Once finished, he retracted the tentacles to their source and released his hold on the water in the sink.
Instead, he focused on removing the water still clinging to the jars and cans. He pulled at the individual droplets until, after nearly a minute, he had formed a small ball of water, roughly the size of a golf ball, in front of him.
He hurled the water ball at one of the cans and then repeated the process, trying to be faster this time.
Izuku had asked Kacchan to help him with combat training that day. That meant brawling in the schoolyard. The teachers didn't mind, given that they were training to become heroes.
He had challenged Bakugo that very day to get used to fighting in his electric eel with arms body.
Quirk 32: Electric Eel
Grants the user the appearance and abilities of a giant, amphibious electric eel
He dodged Kacchan’s explosive punch, narrowly avoiding it thanks to his unusual physique, and slapped his friend across the face with an electrified hand.
But Kacchan was simply too stubborn to be stopped by a minor electric shock.
The fight ended fifteen minutes later, when Izuku managed to tackle Kacchan and zap him at full power.
Izuku had decided to head into the woods to practice rescue operations, given that the day's quirk was geared primarily toward combat.
It wasn't that the quirk couldn't be used for things other than fighting or anything like that, but rather that it didn't want to do anything other than fight.
That was the reason he was currently arguing with her: a beautiful girl with fair skin, green eyes, and long white hair tied in an off-center ponytail and secured with a silver, icicle-shaped tiara. She wore a short, glittering dress in an elegant shade of light green with a sweetheart neckline, a white sash wrapped multiple times around her waist, and a slightly sheer, long-sleeved dark green bolero fastened at the neck with a large emerald brooch; a rapier with a four-pointed hilt was clutched in her hand.
"So, my King, could you kindly explain why we have to do this... thing?" the girl asked, looking annoyed as she towered over him.
Quirk 20: Chessmaster
Grants the user a Queen, two Bishops, two Knights, two Rooks, and eight Pawns housed within their body; these can be materialized and dematerialized at will to carry out the user's commands
"Queenie, I already told you." Izuku explained "If I want to be a hero, I can't just skip the parts that don't suit the day's quirk."
"I understand, but..." Queenie replied, sighing "It feels like a waste of my time. It's boring, and I simply don't like doing it. I feel it's beneath me."
Then the Queen smiled "I'd rather devote myself to a good fight, mowing down our enemies, forcing them to beg for mercy as their blood gushes out in torrents..."
"Okay, okay, I get it. You don't want to save people; I understand." Izuku stopped her, not wanting to hear another one of her bloodthirsty rants "You don't like saving people... I get it. I'm not forcing you to do anything..."
"But I do like it when you force me..." Queenie complained.
"I know, but you were the one who insisted on staying by my side, even when I do things you don't like." Izuku reminded her.
"I am your Queen. I want to stay by your side."
"And that’s perfectly fine. But I need to train to get into U.A., so..."
"Alright, I know. You’ve already explained it to me." Queenie interrupted "You don't have to do it again. I'm not a child. Just do what you have to do."
"Good." Izuku nodded, summoning the other chess pieces to begin his training.
Izuku was doing some parkour in the park, not just to work on his mobility, but also to practice using that quirk while on the move.
His choice proved wise when, mid-leap, he spat a jet of blue flame from his mouth; it blew right into his eyes, yet he still managed to land on his feet and keep running.
Quirk 16: Bluefire Breath
Grants the user a sulfurous fire breath, along with resistance to flames and smoke
He kept running, jumping, sliding, and unleashing blue flames at regular intervals, until his legs ached and his throat burned.
Normally, this wouldn't have been an issue, but he was in the middle of a park, dead tired, with no phone and no water. Yeah, it hadn't been his brightest idea.
Now, Izuku had no choice but to lie on the ground and catch his breath long enough to make it home.
"Whoa, are you okay, ribbit?"
Izuku turned toward the female voice asking the question and tried to answer, but his parched throat wouldn't let a sound escape. So, he simply shook his head.
"Need a hand?" the girl asked, and Izuku nodded. She helped him up and took his arm to steady him as he walked.
