Chapter Text
After his shift he has his classes and honestly everything is already overwhelming as it is so when his class is over and he can finally take a breath seeing Charles feels like a breath of fresh air.
“Hiya,” Charles greets easily, on, his other hand is a drink. “Thought you might need this.”
Max groans in relief, “Thank you, you're a lifesaver.”
Charles only laughs prettily as they walk together. “I know I know.”
“Don't get this into your head.”
“It already got into my head.”
“I shouldn't give you any compliment then, your head is already big enough as it is.”
“Hey!”
Max laughs as they walk in tandem seamlessly like they always do. It's nice.
“We need to do grocery shopping.”
Max nods, “Yeah. Do you bring your car?”
“Yeah. It's in the parking lot.”
So they go.
He likes grocery shopping with Charles even though his taste in things is atrocious.
“Not the chocolate mint ice cream,” Max complains as Charles puts it in the cart. “It tastes like toothpaste.”
“It's not! You're just lacking taste!”
“It literally tastes like toothpaste.”
“No it's not!”
“Yes it is!”
“No it's not!”
“Yes it is Charles!”
“You pick, then,” Charles says, giving in. “What kind of flavour do you like?”
He grins in triumph as he sees Charles pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. He decides to pick the chocolate ice cream when he hears Charles groans.
“Not chocolate!”
He frowns, looking at his pick. “It's a classic!”
“It's basically the same thing as the chocolate mint!”
“It's not! Chocolate doesn't taste like toothpaste!”
“Max, oh my god it doesn't taste like toothpaste!”
“It does! It tastes like fancy toothpaste!”
“You're insufferable,” Charles mumbles , but it lacks any bite.
Max sighs, “Okay no chocolate. What about strawberries?”
Charles shakes his head, “No fruit ice cream. Better get the real thing.”
“Which one do you want then?”
“Mint choco…”
“Except that one!”
Charles snorts, trying to hold back his laugh but his grin betrays him. “Fine. Vanilla then.”
Max brows furrowed, “Isn't that too plain?”
“Do you want it or not? We could still get mint chocolate!”
“Nope,” Max replies, taking the vanilla ice cream and putting it in the cart. “Let's go.”
He can hear Charles laugh behind him as Max tries to hold back his smile. He failed.
Max has been tossing and turning on top of his bed, trying to fall asleep. It's weird these days he can fall asleep easily but now it takes a lot of times from counting sheep to making scenario on top of his head (and if it involves Charles it's none of anyone's business but his own) that he can feel the heaviness on top of his eyes when finally he fell asleep. He's half asleep when he hears it. Footsteps so light he's sure he's imagining it and then he can hear his door open as someone walks in. He's sure he's imagining it though because the next thing he feels is someone brushing the top of his head and then a kiss so soft at the top of his forehead. And then they're gone.
Max is pretty sure he imagines it though, especially when he wakes up the next morning, feeling so refreshed more than ever as he's late to the coffee shop for the second time that week.
“Look who the cat dragged in!” Lando hollers as he walks to the coffee shop, heads down.
“Shut up Lando,” He mutters, putting on the apron as they wait for the slew of sleep deprived college kids to come in.
“Twice in a week? That person must be very special,” Kimi chimes in from beside Lando.
“There's no one!” He insists, feeling his cheeks grow red.
“That sounds about right,”Lando says, snicker. “He and Charles are attached at the hip.”
“No we're not!”
“Yes you do!” Lando and Kimi say in agreement.
“Whatever,” He mumbled, as someone walked through the door. “It's not like it matters.”
Lando rolls his eyes, “It does matter.”
