Chapter Text
Nene was just tidying up her house for Rak, who was coming over today, as she insisted that they needed to meet up at least once every two weeks. And it wasn't like Nene didn't enjoy it, but recently all her sister had been asking her about was her relationship with Oat, and Nene couldn't deflect forever. She also knew that as soon as Dokrak finally found out they were now girlfriends, she was never going to stop talking about it.
Oat had to leave Nene's last night to go work at the bar, so maybe Rak had already found out because Oat never stopped running her mouth. However, Rak would've run over to Nene's if she found out last night.
Ring.
“Nene, I'm here and I brought sweets from Pam's shop,” Dokrak said, and Nene could already see the big smile plastered on her face.
Nene walked over to the door, opening it for Rak. She had been considering getting more keys cut recently to give to Rak and her wife, Pam.
Maybe I should give one to Oat too.
For some reason, she couldn't get Oat out of her head after last night.
“Earth to Nene.”
Dokrak waved her hand in front of Nene's face, already settled on the older girl's sofa.
“What's got you so distracted? I literally just arrived and you're thinking about something else.”
“I'm not distracted. Something just popped into my head. On that note, do you know anywhere I can get some more keys cut?” Nene said, trying to change the subject and maybe get Oat out of her mind.
“Yeah, I do actually. It's by Rim House.”
Clearly, the universe was not on Nene's side.
“If you have a spare, I can get it done before my set there and then give it to you later.”
“You have a set today? I thought you only had them on weekends.”
“Well, normally that's the case, but Oat asked if I could do one today.” Rak gave her a big smile that slowly turned into a smirk. “Why? You jealous?”
“No, I'm not jealous, Dokrak. I'm just asking.”
Nene looked away.
“Thank you for your offer. I'll give you the spare before you leave.”
“Okay.”
Rak picked up a sweet.
“Noooooow… what's going on between you and Oat?”
Nene knew this question was coming.
“We went on a date yesterday. We went to that ice cream place you said was nice. It was good. We came back a little later after spending time in the park, and then she asked me to be her girlfriend, so now we're officially dating.”
Nene tried to keep her tone and face the same but couldn't hide how happy she was.
“EXCUSE ME? WHY AM I ONLY FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS NOW, NENE?”
A grin appeared on Rak's face.
“Actually, it's okay. You were probably too busy last night with Oa—”
“Shut up.”
“Okay, fine, I'll shut up.”
Rak immediately started a new conversation about the same topic.
“Okay, but in all seriousness, is Oat a good kisser or what? She's such a flirt, you'd only expect—”
“What did I just say, Dokrak?”
“I'm going to ask about you and Oat, you know that. But you don't want me to ask about last night, so I'm asking about things in general.”
“Yeah, yeah, sure.”
Dokrak had just gone and got the keys cut for Nene and was now walking into Rim House for her set that night. However, she was arriving earlier than usual for her shift as she wanted to talk to Oat before her set.
“Hi, Rak,” the bartender called from behind the counter.
“Hi, P'Oat.”
“How come you're here so early? Have you finally decided to become organised and not arrive when your set begins?” Oat joked.
“Nope. Today's special because…”
Dokrak paused for dramatic effect.
“You asked Nene to be your girlfriend.”
“She told you. Most likely not of her own volition.”
“Nooooo.” Dokrak laughed. “I legit just asked about your relationship and she told me about yesterday.”
She gave Oat a wink.
“Sure,” Oat said, a faint blush appearing on her face.
“I also came here early because Nene wanted me to get some keys cut from the place nearby. She wanted to give one to me and Pam…” Dokrak paused. “Who knows, maybe she'll give one to you too.”
“We've only been dating for a day. Chill out.”
Oat's blush only grew stronger.
“That doesn't change the fact you've been friends for five years.”
Dokrak shrugged.
“And you've also both liked each other for five years.”
Oat didn't catch it.
“Nice set, Rak,” Oat said after everyone had left, leaving just the two of them.
“Thanks. See you soon.”
Dokrak finished packing her things before turning to leave.
“Actually, you need to give Nene that key back. Leave it here. I'm seeing her tomorrow.”
Rak looked at Oat.
“Okay.”
She placed the key on the bar.
“See you tomorrow, P'Oat.”
“See you.”
The next afternoon, Nene was sitting on the sofa when there was a knock at her door.
She already knew who it was.
When she opened it, Oat was standing there, holding something between two fingers.
“Hi, Khun Nene.”
“Hi.”
Oat held out the key.
“Rak said you needed this.”
Nene took it from her.
“Thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
There was a small pause.
Neither of them seemed particularly interested in ending the conversation.
“Did you eat?” Oat asked.
Nene shook her head.
“You?”
“Not yet.”
“Do you want to come in?”
Oat smiled.
“I thought you'd never ask.”
Nene rolled her eyes but stepped aside to let her in.
Oat walked into the house, taking off her shoes before following Nene into the living room.
“So,” Oat said, looking around. “What are we doing?”
“I don't know. You came here.”
“You invited me in.”
“I didn't say you had to stay.”
Oat looked at her with an amused expression.
“Do you want me to leave?”
Nene looked at her for a second.
“No.”
Oat's smile softened.
“Good.”
