"Oh, he just forgot what you were cooking, that is all."
Yeah, right.
"So, uh...thanks for the breakfast, Will. I'll head to the library for a bit. Gotta go study.", Mike suddenly said, getting up from the stool, making both Wonder Twins look at him in confusion.
"But...we have break.", Jane softly reminded.
But that young man was already gathering his things, seemingly in a rush.
"Still! I'll be back in a few, okay? Bye, guys!" And with that, the door closed, both siblings left in an akward silence.
After clearing his throat, Will asked,"Do...you know something?"
His sister slowly shook her head. "No."
"Then what else did you two talk about?"
"He...he was confused. And so am I. Why are you suddenly so...flirty?"
Because otherwise he would never find out if his year long crush liked him back without immideately ruining everything.
"Something must be in the air today."
El finally turned to him, her face covered in a skeptic expression.
"Okay! I did that to know if he actually likes me back! We have been friends since kindergarten, though, El, so I can't just tell him how I feel, you know? I can't just ruin everything, so I gotta do...that."
Luckily, her expression softened.
"With that very obvious flirting? He might be..." She paused, searching for a word,"Oblivious, but he is not stupid, Will."
He sighed. Why does she always have to be right somehow?
"Yeah...you're right. You think he noticed? Did he tell you something?"
She sucked in her lower lip. "I can't tell you what he said, friends don't do that. But if he didn't notice, he might actually be kinda stupid. It was...very obvious."
"Okay, I get that. Thanks, El."
He walked over, wrapping his arms around her in a warm embrace, and she immideately returned the favor.
And that was when his phone buzzed, causing Will to groan.
Vecna has been sighted at the Hawkins Presbyterian Church ,he apparently is holding a person hostage, who could be identified with MJ Wheeler
Will threw his ohone on the table, burying his face in his hands in pure panic.
"Shit, shit, shit!"
El gently approached him, resting her hands on his shoulders. "Will...Will look at me. It'll all be alright. But take care, you know what he did to Kali. I don't want to lose you, too. Or Mike."
Around two years ago, in Summer, El and Kali had been outside together, taking a walk, until suddenly Martin Brenner and Henry Creel/001/Vecna interrupted them. Kali tried to fight them, until Brenner inserted a pole syringe, filled with a numbing shot, in her neck. With her last bits of energy, Kali managed to save El, but from that day, they have nver seen each other again. A few months ago, the public news had said that Brenner and Creel had tortured her, "testing her powers", until she died.
"Yeah...yeah I know. We'll be fine, yeah?"
He pressed a soft kiss onto her cheek.
"Okay."
He hurriedly swung above the roofs of his hometown, cussing under his breath.
Finally, he saw the church, covered in veins.
He swung right through the colorful window, glass flying everywhere.
"Mike..."
"Save your breath, William.", he heard the familiar growl. Vecna.
"I'd rather have you save your own, Vecna."
"I'm undead, William, thanks to your sister."
Not listening, Will ran towards Mike, who was caught in veins, tied to the cold walls of the church.His eyes were closed.
"Mike...", Will repeated, under his breath, tears starting to fill his eyes as he cupped Mike's face.
"Shush, I said."
Gritting his teeth, he now faced the monster.
"What did you do to him?!", he growled.
"I helped him forget you."
"No..."
He couldn't...could he?
"Why did you do that?!"
"Because, William, that what Micheal is feeling for you is unnatural. Wrong. Inhuman. You should be grateful. I am releasing both of you from that sin. And since your dear Micheal didn't want to confess his sins here...", he gestured ariund the church,"I had to help a little. Aren't you glad, William? You now are free from that weight you've been carrying, never been able to tell him, and now you will never be able to."
Wait, Mike was...? No. He had no time to think about such nonesense.
Grunting, he shot a set of webs towards Vecna, who easily let them fly towards the other side of the room.
"Is this all you have got? Pathetic."
He kept talking, circling Will, who was now shaking, sitting on his knees, helplessly.
"You know, William? I had always thought you and me were the same. Young, pathetic loners, who everyone made fun of. No one that cared about them."
His voice was low, cold. So cold, it was matching their surroundings.
"I am nothing like you.", Will let out through his gritted teeth.
"Oh, now I know, William. Because look at you now...on your knees, sobbing for a person that cannot be like you. How miserable."
Before Will could even blink, Vecna was suddenly pressed up against the wall.
"Jane! You came..."
She shot him a quick, warm smile.
"Yeah, I did. Now quick! To free Mike from that curse, you have to tell him what he truly desires to hear!"
Will hastily got up, running towards Mike, before taking his mask off. Risky, but both Vecna and El knew who he was.
"But what could that be?!"
"Will! Think!"
But...fuck it.
"Mike...I know you can't hear me, but...", silent sobs cut through his words. "Since the first day of kindergarten...I-I knew we were going to be tied to each other forever. Remember when I was stuck in the Upside Down? I was calling for you, Mike. B-because...I-I thought...I thought it was hell, you know? That I was there for being...the way I am. So I was hoping...that you would be there, too. And then you saved me. And now I'm going to save you. I...I'm in love with you, Mike. I've always been."
He now fell to the ground, sobbing, both in shame and in hope.
El screamed, but he couldn't really focus on that.
"NO-" That was all what he heard from the monster, until he was nothing more than dust and ashes.
"Mike, please...wake up. I love you."
"Will?"
"Mike?"
"Will, oh my gosh, I can't believe you're here..."
Will didn't notice that with Vecna's death, the veins had died too.
He also didn't notice that Mike was crouching right in front of him, on the cold tiles of the church. He felt cold hands, cupping his face, making him look at the other guy.
He was still sobbing.
"D-did you hear what I-?"
"Every word." His voice was soft. Warm. The one that had always been reserved for him only.
The next thing Will knows is that his lips collapsed with Mike's in a heated, yet gentle kiss.
As they pulled away, Will asks,"So I guess that means...?"
Mike chuckled. "Yes, Will, I love you too. Why, did you think, I agreed on the whole 'Fake Relationship' thing?"
He got a point there.
"I still can't believe it..."
"Finally!"
They both turned around, where El was still standing.
"I had to watch both of you break down, thinking the other one didn't like them-"
In perfect unison, the boys asked,"You knew?"
"Of course I knew. Oh thank gosh..."
Little did Will know that soon, everyone would know that they're official now.
