Chapter Text

Buster Moon hadn’t been to a doctor in 8 years.
It didn’t seem especially important, and he usually couldn’t afford it. What little savings he had over the years went towards his shows and his actors. It wasn’t a big deal, he just didn’t get sick or hurt. Easy. Right?
Perhaps not.
When Moon woke up the next morning, after a night of dead sleep, he felt a…twinge, of sorts, in his side.
Really, nothing to worry about. Probably just a pulled muscle; he had done a surprising amount of running in Red Shore City.

That day, Ms. Lane (who insisted she be called Suki by the cast) reappeared in Buster’s theatre
She had volunteered herself to be their agent, and represent them with Majestic Theatre, and with any other theatres in the future.
“Mr. Moon, things are going to begin moving very quickly from this point. Are you certain you, and the cast, are completely prepared for this?”
“Absolutely!” He grinned up at the dog, her face unimpressed as she readjusted her clipboard.
“Everyone is prepared to be touring, even Clay! Why, we could leave tonight if we needed!”

He waved his paw in a beckoning motion, implying she follow him. Buster trotted towards the backstage area, Suki following close behind.
“Look, we have everything we need either packed up or already at The Majestic, and everyone is still mostly packed!”

“That’s not really what I meant, Mr. Moon. I meant is everyone prepared to be gone? You, specifically, Mr- Buster?” He paused in his tracks, looking back at her, halfway up the stairs to the offices.
“What? What do you mean by that?”
“Well, you went through a lot in those few weeks. I would know. I worked close to Crystal for months before your troop showed up, and I saw what he did to other animals. He’s not a good guy, Mr. Moon.”
She looked up at him from the bottom of the stairs, noticing as his paw gripped the railing a little harder, as his smile tightened just a bit.
“Who, me? I think I’d know if I wasn’t ready, Ms. Lane. I am the most prepared out of any of us!” He laughed, skipping up the rest of the stairs. “C’mon, I wanna show you something!’

As she reached the peak of the stairs, she paused, taken aback by the sight in front of her. The walls were completely glass, showing a view of the city, the sun hardly peeking over the horizon. She’d had countless early meetings in Red Shore, but she’d never really taken the time to appreciate the sunrise.
“It’s beautiful, Moon, but why are you showing me this?”

“You see the edge of the city there, Ms. Lane? See where the buildings stop?”
“Yes, but-”
“I couldn’t see the edge from the city. I’ve lived here my entire life, and I’d never seen a city that large in my entire life.”
She stared down at him, and he stared back.
“I’ve never wanted anything more, Ms. Lane. We’re all ready.”

“Okay. We’ll leave in a week.”

“Great!”
