kaz: Maybe he’ll even teach you some responsibility
jes: ?????
Nina was excited to see Wylan for the first time. Well, rather, actually talk to him for the first time. She had seen glimpses of him here and there when working on theater productions. He had also played in most of those orchestras.
You see, the thing she didn’t expect walking in was seeing Jesper crowding Wylan against the counter.
She had been checking her hair on her phone camera, using one hand to unlock the back door, getting ready to call out. But immediately as she looked up, there the two were up against the counter, Wylan looking red, and Jesper with his hands on each side of him. Her jaw dropped. She fumbled with her phone for a second, snapping a photo of them. Saints, this was perfect blackmail.
”Look who is early here for once.”
Watching the two jump away from each other was hilarious. Jesper quickly moved toward the opposite countertop, nearly falling into the coffee machine, while Wylan looked away and his ears turned redder. Jesper started to sputter at the same time Wylan did.
”This isn’t-“
”We were just-“
Nina burst out laughing, which only seemed to make them more mortified, as she walked over to put down her bag. She was still giggling to herself while putting on the apron. Jesper had said something to Wylan she couldn’t hear, but Wylan huffed and turned away to fiddle with the coffee machine. Meanwhile, Jesper walked over to her.
He was half scowling, moving in front of her and lowering his voice. He even jabbed a finger at her. Truly, the audacity.
”I swear to all the Saints, if you tell anyone-“
”Relax, Jes,” she said, pushing past him. It was hard to not burst out laughing again with how Jesper was looking so panicked. “Just do your job and train him properly instead of flirting…” she dragged out the last word, moving her hair to tie it up. “Or I may have an image to send to Kaz.”
Jesper shot her a withering glare before simply returning back to Wylan, who seemed to be struggling with a piece of the coffee machine. The latter seemed to redden slightly as Jesper leaned in, moving his hands over Wylans.
Oh, this would be a fun shift.
Nina eventually got the opportunity to sidle up against Wylan when Jesper left to get something from the back, smiling her most innocent of smiles.
”You and Jesper…”
”Nothing. He’s- an asshole.”
“Right,” She raised a slight eyebrow at him, adjusting the jars of coffee idly. “An asshole who makes you blush.”
As if on cue, she saw Wylans ears pink slightly out of the corner of her eye. “He doesn’t.”
Nina snorted. They were the most obvious two fools ever. She opened her mouth to say something else, before noticing Jesper coming back. She shifted away from Wylan, grabbing a pen and actually starting to label things again. Jesper shot her a suspicious look when he walked over.
She just smiled.
The rest of the shift went by without much else, Nina losing herself in the repetitive motions. Greet customer. Smile a bit. Tell Wylan the order. Give order to customer. The most interesting activities, truly. She didn’t think about it much when one of their regulars came in- some girl who liked to flirt with Jesper- until she caught a glimpse of Wylans face.
He looked down right murderous as the girl- Saints, Nina could never remember her name…- leaned in close, Jesper brushing a piece of her hair behind her ear. He was gripping onto a cup so tightly she was sure the drink would spill.
“Excuse me-? I’m not done ordering.”
Nina rolled her eyes, turning back to the guy in front of her and plastering on a polite smile.
”My mistake. I just got a bit distracted.”
He said something snappy back that she wasn’t paying much attention to. On any other day, she’d probably snap back, what would Kaz do- fire her? Pfft. But she was still observing Wylan and Jesper.
The hours ticked by quickly, and Nina found herself turning their OPEN sign to the CLOSED side. She hummed as she started to mop the floors, until she saw Wylan and Jesper talking again. Ugh. Seriously, she had been the only one getting any shit done this shift. She made a decision there and then, dropping the mop and making the two guys jump from the noise.
”You two lovebirds can close,” she said, grabbing her bag and keys. “I’m going home!”
“Y’know,” Nina mumbled, snuggling closer to Matthias. It was truly one of the best decisions to move into the same dorm. They didn’t have to deal with a random bitchy roommate, and plus, she got to be with her boyfriend much more often. “Jes and the new guy are so into one another.”
Matthias hummed, fingers still massaging her scalp as he pressed a light kiss to her temple.
”You’re too invested in other peoples love lifes.”
”No.”
”Yes.”
Nina huffed, closing her eyes and melting more into him. She didn’t feel like arguing, especially when he was this warm against her. She knew she was right about this though.
”I left them to close with each other-“ she yawned. “I’m sure they’re infatuated with one another.”
“Yeah?”
”Mmhhm. We should bet on it, actually.”
They fell into comfortable silence, the only noise being the air conditioner running. Nina sat up slightly, grabbing her phone. Matthias looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. “What’re you doing?”
”We should bet on it.”
