Chapter Text

America 1988

It has been 2 years, and Daniel and David have been going, somewhat strong. As of lately Daniel's parents have been pushing him more and more into getting a girlfriend. making him more and more insecure with his sexuality. David didn't seem to notice but he's been getting more anxious about the state of his lover.

And on a foggy night in July the streetlamps break up the fog on the path to David's house. Daniel, shaken up with his head hanging low, slowly taking heavy steps towards his destination, gripping onto his wrists, causing them to burn as the night before he decided to go wasn't particularly pretty, images flash through daniels head as it stings, hysterical crying and the shiny knife stolen from the kitchen. causing daniels bed to look like someone spilled a big carton of sacramental wine all over it.

He stumbles towards the door and weakly knocks on it 3 times before David opens up, obviously worried he lets Daniel inside and leads him to his bedroom. David carefully helps Daniel sit down and does so himself before Daniel lays down with his head in David's lap,David slowly runs his hand through the messy blonde hair in his lap, combing out the bigger knots with his fingers as Daniel quietly weeps in David's lap. “David, do you ever wonder what your parents would think?” he asks between weeps, david smiled somberly hearing that. “always. but I never worry, even if they get mad at me, you're worth it.”
“So what should i do?” Daniel asked. David softly replied; “Regarding what?” - “my parents. They want me to get a girlfriend, start a family. But you know that I don't want that.” David thought about it for a while. trying to understand what daniels been going through lately. Daniel wept;”you know I want you. more than any of that.but there's this feeling that keeps crawling into me and tugging at my consciousness..” David tilted his head and frowned.”Daniel, if something's wrong then please don't bear that burden alone.” pleaded David. Daniel's crying had gotten more hysterical at that point. Through sobs he admitted;
“I just want it all to end. I want my parents to accept me for what I am but even I can't do that. I wish you were a girl so this could all be- easier.. but I also want you as you are.”

David's hand trailed down to daniels waist resting it there. He sighed; “hm. well it all ends up well in the end, doesn't it? we can move out, move somewhere else where no one knows our name. we can live freely there, no judgement? No pain?” Daniel looks down at his wrists as David says “no pain”, dragging the sleeves down of the hoodie he got to borrow from David a week ago that he was wearing. and would wear for the foreseeable future. He slowly stands up and wipes his tears.”David, I sure hope that works out. for the both of us.” he sniffled. looking at David with cold, dead eyes. as if the spark in him had vanished. David tried his best to smile at him. Holding back tears, he lamented;
“It will. You need to see things more optimistically, it'll help!” Daniel looked down and his lips formed somewhat of a smile. “Thank you, David,” he mumbled. and it grew quiet for a second before Daniel took a step towards David. “i need to go but ill see you .. tommorow?” he asked. david leaned closer and lovingly smiled. “alright. youre welcome anytime you know!” he grinned before Daniel kissed him one last time, he turned around and closed the door to davids room. placing a folded note into David's jacket pocket with handwritten text on it. “David,” it said on the front.

he stepped out the front door and started walking into the woods, towards the active train tracks and thought about the life he had lived up until now. The friends he’d made. the things he’d experienced and what he had learned. who he had loved and the people he’d hated. No one had to care anymore. He wouldn't know what their end would be. For everyone he hoped it would come out good. Maybe Jen could become a fashion designer like she always wanted to be, maybe Gwen's novel would take off, and become a top selling story. and David would successfully help people, helping them let go of worry and stress and live a good life. He had all written these people a note. very long notes, and quite short ones. David's one was the last one he had delivered. Everything was planned, set in stone. and out of everything he hoped for, most of all he hoped they could go on without him. That's what he wanted most.

as he stood there, by the bridge over the tracks. a group of people in long black robes approached him. taking him with them. He had given almost everything a chance. But maybe these people could help him. so he tried. and he would stay with those people for 5 years. becoming one of their most beloved members.

and at the same time, David had found the note Daniel left, and rushed towards the forest. just to find Daniel nowhere near. A search party was issued, and after putting up a hundred posters all over Texas, and asking everyone he could, Daniel was presumed dead. They held a funeral. and the world kept spinning. almost. because something was missing, someone was. Sometimes I hope you’ll come back. that you will just show up on my doorstep like you used to, but you're dead. They found your diary. I knew you felt that way, but I didn't know how bad it was. Maybe in another life we really would move out, you’d get better, and your scars would heal. the world is more accepting now, it's a shame you’re not here to see it. I wish you the best. Maybe it's sad I keep writing these letters, it's not like you’re receiving them. anyway. someone’s frantically knocking at my door, so i should go check that out. I wish you the best.

-Love, David.
