Chapter Text
Days after their outing together, Jade and Silver continues to hang around with each other except it's become more nerve-wracking as before now that Silver was aware of his own feelings towards Jade. However, Jade hasn't noticed his new behaviors but continues to be as equally anxious as Silver. Also none of them has made any progress. Jade is too afraid to confess his feelings to Silver whereas Silver wants to let his feelings go to him until the time is right.
But as of right now, the two has been ordered by Azul to make their a drink in the kitchen. Their conversations has become more awkward than ever as both are trying to figure out what to talk about and without constantly interrupting each other's sentences.
Silver glances at the taller one's side profile before he avert his eyes away when Jade caught his eyes staring at him.. (I can't get my eyes off him... everytime I look at him my heart skips a beat.) He felt the warmth of his face.
They finally arrived to their destination. They were alone, no students or even one ghost chefs surprisingly that was supervising the kitchen. With no other choice, Jade and Silver searched around the kitchen for anything they could help refresh their classmates during their break.
They look through the cabinets of the kitchen for any beverages like tea or even coffee.
Silver in fact did find both of those things and asked Jade which would be best, which the eel answers him with tea, for the sake of Riddle who was in the group. Upon getting his answer, the knight wanted to reach the box of tea from the shelf but is way too high up for his own height.
Jade snickered at the shorter one trying to tip toe his way to grab the box of tea from a high place that is not suitable for his own height. "Here, I'll help you." When he was finally entertained enough with Silver's antics, the teal-haired walks over to him and grabs the box with no struggles at all. For someone with Jade's height, there was no effort made to reach for anything.
"Ah, thank you-" as Silver went to thank his friend, he was greeted with his face up close to Jade's. Both stared into the other's eyes. Silver's auroral eyes and Jade's two different colored eyes closely meeting until they averted and gave each other a good three meters distance when the two's heart race faster at their unexpected closeness. "Sorry, here..."
"Thanks..." they made a quick exchange with the tea not batting another eye. Silver touches his hand, and hears his thoughts. (His face was so close....) he lets his ability disappear as his touch of Jade's hand did too and cleared his voice acting like none of this had happened. "If you may, could you heat some water..?"
"Sure thing." Jade turned his body to the stove, preparing to heat the kettle with water inside it while the other went through the kitchen cabinets once more searching for the teapots and cups they could use for their tea. "Ah, here." Silver muttered to himself when he found a collection of them on shelf not too high for him, carefully grabbing a few cups with both hands then securing a grip when it came to the teapot.
When he thought everything of the tea was set including the kettle, Silver then hears a clatter and drop. When he quickly turned to see investigate the sound he found Jade holding his hand and the kettle fallen on its side. "Ow..." the eel agonised the burn on his palm. "Jade, are you okay?" The knight approached him with worry, "I'm fine. It's only a burn."
Silver grab his injured hand out of instinct, Jade winces when his thumbs comes in contact with his sensitive palm. "Jade, You should've known to use mitts." The teal-haired pouts, "I know..." nodding to his scolding, knowing that's what he didn't do. (I kept focusing on him that I touched the kettle without a thought.)
"Be more careful next time... you made me worried." Silver advices, watching the tall one nod and turn to the sink to reduce the pain on his palm.
While he does that, Silver walked over to the stove and stands the fallen kettle up right so it can be properly grabbed and making sure to not make the same mistake after witnessing his friend's mistake. Afterwards, the silver-haired knight goes over to his classmate to check on the status of his burn. "How's your injury?"
"It's stings but it's not as bad." The eel with teal hair answered, not giving a single eye contact to him as he feels rather embarrassed with what happened earlier. "We can head to the infirmary when we get the others here and you can be able to cool off the burn." The other suggested but watch the Octavinelle student shake his head in disagreement. "No! No. I promise I'm okay." He finally look into his eyes, "I don't want to worry you any longer."
"I only worry about you because I—" he stopped again, realizing if he finished that he may accidentally reveal his feelings to him. "Because.... you're my friend..." were the words that ended his sentence.
Hearing that, Jade's mouth curved to a frown.
Silver felt hollow after that. His chest was empty, everything didn't feel right when he said it. There was more he wanted to say not just that. So, why couldn't he? Why couldn't he say the words he really wanted to say to Jade?
The atmosphere was quiet. There was no other things that was said. No movement made from the two of them or anything.
Silver breaks the silence, "I'm going to inform the others that the tea is ready." He began to move from his spot but a hand grabs his. "Jade?" This sudden grasp shocked the silver-haired one unexpectedly, he spins his body so that he was seeing everything of him at the front. Including Jade's warm flushed face where he stared down at the hand he still hasn't let go of.
His grasp gave Silver a little deja vu, he stumbled across this kind of contact just a few days ago. Except he's actually holding his hand with him, Jade's hand wrapped around Silver's with a tight grip. He began to speak, "Silver, do you only see me as a friend?" (Please say no...) he question with a shaken voice, his thoughts coming in afterwards.
A beat was heard from Silver's chest, his words stammers, "Well yeah... afterall we've got more closer than before." He answered with a white lie.
Jade approached the individual slowly, "Jade?" Silver stepped back when he stepped closer to him. "And you don't think... there's nothing more to it?" His steps continued forward while the knight's continues to step backwards until he hit the kitchen counter with the back of his foot.
"I..." The silver-haired Diasomnia student was cornered, Jade had trapped him by the kitchen counter. Silver leaned back, gripping the edges of the counter to hold himself while Jade laid his hands on top. He watched his hair drop forward, the black strand of his hair falling first..
The closeness of the eel's body was making the knight's face warmer and he quickly shut his eyes in sheer panic when he feel the face of the other getting closer, hearing and feeling every breathe he took as he gradually get closer.
The knight swallowed, Jade's face was genuinely as close now. He could already predict what's going to happen next if got even closer.... however, (I shouldn't...) he heard Jade's voice before opening his eyes fully and spotting the teal-haired one move his body away from Silver with his lips pursued, (If I did he'll never want to be around me ever again....)
"Jade..?" Silver called out.
Jade instead embraced his body. It surprises the other but it made him secure somewhat. He wanted to embraced the eel back but (I'm sorry for loving you, Silver..) Jade quickly pulled away from the hug.
"Apologies, I need to take a breather outside." Jade spoke, his body turned away and he was faced with Jade's backside, not even with a head turn to look at Silver. "You should get the others before the tea gets cold..."
The teal-haired eel walks out and leaves him inside the kitchen where the knight falls to his knees with after what happened. "I... I thought he was going to do it." The warmth grew across his face more, he covers his flustered face.
"And why did I desperately wanted it to happen?"
