Chapter Text
According to Myra a mage bracelet is a piece of jewelry that helps mages control and summon whichever power they have. When I first picked it up the gem in the center was grey, putting it on was rather difficult so Myra had to help me. Putting bracelets on yourself is hard, when you try to slip it on it’s too tight but when you try to tie it, it’s impossible to do with one hand. Necklaces are so much easier. I subconsciously started messing with my golden heart locket around my neck.
When I was little the only attention I ever got from my family was when my grandma passed away, who i’ve never actually met but when she passed it was a huge deal. I was given a tiny box. Apparently the locket was given to my grandma from my grandpa when they first fell in love. I don’t know why it was given to me, but I've never taken it off since. “There, now it should be easier to do it now.” Myra stated, I waved my hand around confused. “Does this really work?” I asked. The door opened and we saw Zephyr come into the shop, his eye brow raised when he saw us together and the bracelet on my wrist. “What are you two doing here?”
Myra laughed, “Alice is having a hard time with fire.” I examined Zephyr, the first day I saw him I was a little confused but I’m just dumbfounded who the heck wears a suit to summer camp. In the heat. He was wearing a tucked in white button up with a tie and his sleeves rolled up to just above his elbows. I mean he looked hot but at the same time like dude aren’t you sweating. “What’s up with the suit dude, we’re at summer camp.” Myra snorted, “Zephyr likes to dress like he stepped out of a mafia type romance.” Zephyr’s mouth dropped. “I do not!” He fumed, Myra fell to her knees cackling while I tried to hold my laugh in covering my mouth with my hand. Suddenly a black cat appeared and scratched his leg. “Oh, It’s you, how the heck did you get in? I slammed the door in your face.” Zephyr remarked, I have no clue who’s cat that is, but that’s a very rude way to treat a cat, sir, you should apologize. Zephyr picked the cat up and then handed it to me. “Here he’s your problem now.” I stared at him dumbfounded. “You do realize Alice has no idea that’s Rhovan don’t you?” Myra asked, still laughing.
I stared at the cat in question, well actually they do have the same chocolate brown eyes. “Wait, this is Rhovan-” the cat “Rhovan” jumped out of my arms and jumped on the counter and poofed. Instead of the cat, there was Rhovan, black hoodie, blue jeans, and the same smirk. “Hey ginger.” Zephyr glared at him. “I don’t get a hello?” Rhovan pouted. “You slammed a door in my face, you get nothing.” “You are the pettiest person I’ve ever met.” These two have a really interesting friendship.
“Why did you turn into a cat?” I inquired, Rhovan turned back to me. “I like cats, they're lazy and can do whatever they want.” “Yeah, that matches your personality exactly.” Myra remarked. Rhovan rolled his eyes, “Anyway Zephyr and I saw you guys enter in here and we’re bored. So what are you guys doing here?” Myra pointed at the mage bracelet on my wrist. “Alice is having a hard time with her magic so we got her a mage bracelet to help.” Rhovan grinned at me. “You’re having trouble? I can help if you want.” I don’t know why but that does not sound like a good idea.
Zephyr shook his head, “Alice isn’t going anywhere with you, you’ll encourage her to burn something down.” Rhovan beamed. “Exactly, that’s fun, right ginger?” Honestly, I do kinda want to burn something down right now. “I like arson.” I responded, Myra immediately pulled me away from Rhovan. “Yea no, we are not burning anything today!” Rhovan pouted. “You’re mean.” Zephyr sighed. “And you’re a menace.”
Myra started pulling me in the other direction. “We’re going to head out, you guys can keep arguing.”
We headed back to the inflammable area and back to the firepit. “Alright now try.” I started trying again, still the flame did not move. A couple hours started to pass again and the sun started setting. I started getting mad at the flame and yelled “I hate you!” at it. Finally it moved slightly, Myra gasped. “Well that did something.” I felt relief as I let out a loud sigh and my knees gave out. “Finally, so does that mean all I have to do is get mad?” Myra shrugged. “It’s one way eventually you’ll just be able to do it on command, cmon lets go to dinner.”
After dinner we retreated back to our dorms however, I was not able to sleep. I stared up at the ceiling, then turned to Myra who was sound asleep. I got up from my bed and changed into jeans and a hoodie and went outside to get some fresh air. I made my way towards the forest that surprisingly didn’t look that scary at night.
I leaned my head back as I walked, taking in the fresh air and the slight chill that would come occasionally. “You know it’s dangerous to walk outside alone at night.” I jumped at the sound of a voice. I looked up to see Rhovan sitting on a tree branch, smirking down at me. “Then why are you outside? If it's so dangerous?” He jumped down, “I don’t like the dorms, and I know this forest like the back of my hand, you don’t.” He has a point, he started walking past me, while I remained standing where I was. He turned back to look at me. “Are you coming or not?” I jogged up to him and we continued walking through the forest.
“So where exactly are we going? Please don’t tell me you’re bringing me to some random place to murder me.” Rhovan laughed. “Don’t worry ginger, I don't plan on murdering you.” I side eyed him. “I don’t trust that.” I looked at the sky, there were a lot more stars here then there were where I used to live. I turned to look at Rhovan but he was looking at me, right when I looked at him he looked away. I raised an eyebrow, “what?” He shook his head. “Nothing,” don’t nothing me clearly it was something. Did I have something on my face, I touched my face absentmindedly. “We’re here,” I looked up and noticed we were back at the dorms.
I looked back at him confused, he laughed. “I walked us in a circle, don’t be so surprised.” He reached his hand out but then pulled it back almost immediately. “You should go back to your dorm and get some sleep.” Then he turned and started walking back to his dorm.” My eyes stayed on him until I saw him enter his dorm. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, that was weird. Well, guess I should go back to the dorm.
I changed and went back into my bed, looking over to Myra who was still out cold. I wonder how many times he goes out there at night, and how long he usually stays out there. And why he said he doesn’t like the dorms. Eventually all my thoughts tired me out and lured me to sleep
