Chapter Text
The summer hits the same in UNASA the way it hits on earth. Everyone was mostly familiar with this despite some of the seasons being different on mars compared to earth.
Another notable difference was the insects on mars. Everyone was absolutely familiar with the cockroach’s but besides them there was also other insect that could be found on earth, many being different but not too out of the ordinary.
After a long day of work lxchel had decided to go out for a walk in order to get her minds off the busy day. tying her hair up and throwing on some quick perfume she made her way out the door
it’s not often she can take this time off for herself so she plugged her headphones in and started walking
Around a mile away from the space ship she paused and noticed something was off. There was a distant buzzing echoing in her ear. She paused for a moment confused before shrugging it off and deciding to head back. Her headphones not only were old but had been playing loud metal the whole time. Obviously the sound wasn’t going to be great.
She made her walk back to the space ship and noticed people staring. Could it be something on her face? Maybe her clothes? Weird..why would they be looking at her?
As she made her way inside the space ship the stares only got worse.
The people here were the worst anyways, what can she expect? Once she got back to the dorm she’d tell Adolf all about it.
“Adolf, I’m home” she called out. The minute she walked in she smelt the smell of homemade food being cooked filling the air
She kicked off her shoes at the door and walked in, fanning herself and skipping the specific song playing at the moment
Lxchel walked into the kitchen as Adolf stirred a pan of rice
“Lxchel” he spoke
“Your home”
“Yeah, you won’t believe how rude the people here, like cmon. I went on a walk and then came back with people looking at me like I killed somebody. Seriously what’s wrong with these people.”
She said, leaning back against a counter
“Really? That’s odd, why would they-“
Just then he turned around to face her
His face immediately went blank, just like everyone one else’s
“Adolf? What’s wrong? Why the hell is everyone looking at me like that”
“L-lxchel, back up alright? Out of the kitchen for a second”
She could tell he was trying to be nice about it which worried her. If adolf saw something wrong with it then something was happening
Panicked she took her headphones off and took a couple steps back
“Adolf? What’s going on?”
“I don’t mind you brining those in, just don’t bring them into the kitchen, they could be dirty”
He sighed and got back to cooking
..?????
Alright so it wasn’t serious..but what the hell is he talking about? What’s everyone looking at?
Just then she felt a shuffle on her shoulder, and a light flap of a wing on her neck
Quickly adolf sensed her confusion and chuckled
“Lxchel, there’s.. moths all over you.”
“Moths?”
“Yeah, they’re flying all around you. How haven’t you noticed?”
Lxchel quickly ran to the nearest mirror in the dorm and was finally able to figure out what was happening
The second she stepped into frame she saw an eclipse of moths surrounding her, not just that but actively glowing
Looks like the moths on mars glow
“And no one thought to stop and ask about it?”
She quickly went to back to being annoyed rather than worried
Despite how annoying the stares were she didn’t mind the moths themselves.
She’d always loved the insects and on mars they looked even better
“Where do you think we can keep them?”
She called out, already growing on the idea of moth pets
“I’m not sure we should keep them”
Adolf came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her torso and sinking his head in the crook of her neck
“I’m sure they’d be happier in their natural habitat”
“Where’d they come from anyway?”
He inhaled her smell and spoke up again
“If I had to guess, it’s because of your smell, you recently got a magnolia perfume right? I can tell you’re wearing it”
Suddenly everything clicked
The perfume Lxchel had put on before leaving had attracted the moths towards her
“The foods almost done, you should get rid of them before we sit down to eat”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right”
With a final sigh Lxchel dragged herself back outside of the space ship and shook off all the moths, letting them flutter away
“It’s alright, atleast I got to see how they glow here”
With that she went back to the dorm to be greeted with the familiar sent of food
She was glad Adolf had been more comfortable cooking around her now and grateful as well, his food was amazing
“You came just in time, the food is done”
Adolf served both of them and set the table, placing the food down in front of both of them
“I can’t believe no one stopped to tell me. What’s wrong with moths either way? The looks I was getting were not moth worthy”
Lxchel complained
“I’m sure they just didn’t want to bother you”
Adolf picked up his fork, stabbing it into the food
“Well, do I still smell good at least?”
“You always do”
