Jean's eyes light up as if he wants to say something profound, but his mind simply won't let him.
"Wait, Hange... do you even have a gender?"
Somehow to Jean in his current state, this was the best possible formulation of the question.
"You can't just ask people if they have a gender, Jean."
"Why not?"
"What if they were neven given one?"
"Given one by whom?"
"Like, a doctor."
"A doctor doesn't give you a gender, they assign you one."
"That's the same thing."
"No, it is not."
"And based on what?"
"Genitals."
"If it's based on genitals, then isn't that sex?"
"It's called assigned gender, not sex, you can't just change what it's called."
At some point, Levi Ackerman concludes death would have been a preferable outcome to listening to this.
