Chapter 4: Epilogue

Chapter Text

Six months later, the District 9 Hero Agency had officially reclassified the relationship between Lead Operative Kim Seungmin and the S-Rank villain Vesper from “Active Threat Containment” to “High-Risk Operational Equilibrium.”

Which was technical jargon for: Please do not interfere when Seungmin and Vesper are having a fight, or you will get caught in the crossfire of their terrifyingly intense dynamic.

At 02:00 AM, the upper atrium of the Han River Trade Center was currently down three floor-to-ceiling glass panels and an entire ornamental marble fountain.

Seungmin stood in the center of the wreckage, his tailored dark suit reinforced with micro-kinetic plating that gleamed under the shattered skylight. He casually brought up his left arm, blocking a sudden arc of violet plasma with his liquid-metal forearm guard without even looking.

"Your entry angle was two degrees off, Minho," Seungmin noted, his voice calm, crisp, and entirely devoid of strain. "You're getting lazy."

Minho dropped from a decorative ceiling beam, landing in a sleek, cat-like crouch twenty feet away. He wore his obsidian half-mask, but his lips were curved into a familiar, hopelessly fond smirk.

"I wasn't lazy, sweetheart," Minho purred, deactivating his plasma blade and brushing a stray lock of dark hair from his eyes. "I was checking if you were wearing the tie I left in your apartment locker last Tuesday."

Seungmin reached up, adjusting his silk tie—a deep navy blue that matched Minho's primary energy signature. "It suited my tactical aesthetic. Don't flatter yourself."

"Right. Purely tactical," Minho chuckled, stepping forward into Seungmin’s personal space.

Instead of drawing a weapon, Seungmin reached out, his hand wrapping firmly around the front of Minho's coat collar, pulling the villain close enough that their foreheads almost touched. Minho’s breath caught—a tiny, satisfying hitch of genuine reaction that Seungmin prioritized above all else.

"You have three minutes before the local perimeter drones lock this quadrant," Seungmin whispered against Minho's cheek, his voice a low, commanding rumble. "Are we going to exchange another three rounds, or are you handing over the decrypted files?"

"I'll give you the drive if you agree to take next Friday off," Minho whispered back, his fingers tracing the edge of Seungmin's reinforced lapel. "I bought us tickets to the opera in Sector 1. Undercover, of course. I even hacked the box seat reservations."

Seungmin’s eyes narrowed into a sharp, dangerous gleam. "Is that a bribe, Vesper?"

"It's a negotiation, Seungminnie."

Before Seungmin could respond, the far double doors burst open with a loud, clattering BANG.

"HALT, VILLAIN!"

Han Jisung skidded into the atrium wearing his bright yellow flight suit, holding his twin kinetic blasters high in the air. He was breathing heavily, his goggles crooked on his head.

"Solaris is here to—oh, come on!" Jisung dropped his arms, staring at the scene in sheer, exhausted disbelief.

Seungmin still had Minho pinned against his chest by the collar. Minho’s hand was resting casually on Seungmin’s waist. Neither of them had drawn a lethal weapon, and both of them turned to look at Jisung with identical, deeply annoyed expressions.

"Han," Seungmin said, his voice dropping into a tone of icy displeasure. "I explicitly assigned you to monitor Sector 3 traffic flow tonight."

"Sector 3 is empty!" Jisung wailed, pointing an accusatory blaster at the pair. "I haven't had a proper villain fight in six months! Six months, Seungmin! All I do is rescue lost golden retrievers and direct municipal hover-buses! Meanwhile, you two are out here having... whatever this high-fashion romantic drama is!"

Minho sighed loudly, resting his chin on Seungmin's shoulder without letting go of his waist. "Solaris, please. We were in the middle of a delicate tactical negotiation. You have zero sense of timing."

"HE'S A VILLAIN!" Jisung shrieked, throwing his hands in the air. "WHY ARE YOU GUYS MATCHING TIES?!"

Seungmin didn't dignify the question with an answer. He smoothly slipped the decrypted flash drive from Minho's coat pocket, tapped the localized spatial anchor on his belt, and gave Minho a slight, authoritative nudge back toward the shattered balcony edge.

"Your three minutes are up, Vesper," Seungmin said softly.

"Until Friday, darling," Minho winked, blowing a digitized kiss toward Seungmin before stepping backward off the ledge and vanishing cleanly into a cloud of violet shadow.

Seungmin turned on his heel, slipping the drive into his inner suit pocket, and walked past a completely dumbfounded Han Jisung toward the elevator.

"Hey! Wait!" Jisung jogged after him, his boots squeaking on the ruined floor. "Did he just invite you to the opera?! Is that legal for an operative?!"

"It's a covert intelligence collection op," Seungmin replied seamlessly, pressing the elevator call button. "And as the Lead Operative on Vesper, my methods are beyond your clearance level."

The elevator doors slid shut, leaving Seungmin alone in the quiet chrome reflection—completely victorious, perfectly tailored, and holding the absolute, undivided devotion of the most dangerous villain in the city.
