ZOEY POV

Zoey woke up with heat surrounding her, though, once the memories of the night before came back, it felt cold. Rumi hadn't woken up through the night like she had before. Zoey imagined her body was too exhausted to do so. Zoey didn't want to move, she wanted things to stay as they were. Mira curled into her side, the sound of Rumi's breaths across the bed, the smell of the morning air creeping through the window. It was perfect.

Until Rumi jerked. Zoey could feel it practically vibrate though Mira's body. Zoey watched as her eyes snapped open, she frantically without much direction was looking around. Quickly Zoey climbed over Mira and leaned over Rumi's legs carefully, bringing the basin in front of the girl as she began to puke. At this point Mira had also woken up, less calmly than Zoey had been given, she was holding the strands of Rumi's hair back as Zoey sat on Mira's legs. The sound of the purple haired girls gags and choked breaths made Zoey's eyes threaten to leek. She held the tears back as the sounds died out. Zoey quickly ran to the kitchen to grab a towel before whipping Rumi's face. Rumi's head drooped down over her own sick. As Zoey lifted her head up delicately she saw Rumi's unfocused eyes, how they were already closing. She bit back her questions and demands with one long breath before carefully whipping her face. Mira left the room to empty the basin while Zoey lowered the girl back down. She could hear her breaths quieten before drifting off to sleep.

Once Mira returned, both girls silently agreed to sit back in bed. They didn't turn the laptop on or even try to fill the quiet. Instead they listened to each other's air leaving their lungs and the song of the birds outside. As the day's light crept behind the curtain, leaving an orange beam of dust across the room, Zoey started thinking. She thought about Rumi, how the girl had been dying less than ten hours ago. How she had kept the secret of being a demon, or having demon marks from her. Every time Rumi looked at Zoey with her hazel eyes, Zoey had thought about how gorgeous she was. How those eyes were fading away from the both.
How Celine hadn't told them. She had taught them for the past year that Demons were the bane of all evil, how they can never be trusted or loved or feel anything, all while one was sitting in her home. She wondered about Rumi's past and how many times she would have felt like a monster. But she wasn't. She was Rumi. Caring, loving, brave, selfless Rumi who loved Zoey and Mira. At that last thought Zoey turned to Mira who was staring ahead. Mira was gorgeous too. Mira with her hot ink hair, slim build and sharp jaw. Zoey thought about how amazing Mira was, how when things crumbled around her she always managed to hold them, Zoey imagined Mira could hold the whole world on her shoulders if she had to, she thought maybe Mira had already once. Zoey began remembering all the domestic nights with Mira, sitting on their dorm floor talking about parents and siblings, school and dance. She also remembered the calm evenings while sitting in their beds where they could feel each other's heat closer than anything before. Zoey loved Mira. She loved Mira and she loved Rumi. She suddenly thought that she might love Mira and Rumi more than she had ever loved anyone, not as hunters, not as friends, not as sisters, but something more. Something that might even be selfish.

But these thoughts would have to wait. Because Rumi needed Zoey to get through her sickness. And Zoey would rather die than let Rumi slip away.

-
Then Rumi woke again, the day had gone slowly with trips to the kitchen and bathrooms being staggered between the two wake girls. While Rumi in her silence and sleep recovered. Now before their usual dinner time, Celine wasn't to be seen and they did not feel like cooking, so they sat with food that was often forbidden in the quiet of Mira's room. The blind had been kept down as the three girls continued in their blissful peace. Then Rumi stirred.

RUMI POV

As the loudness of her dreams quietened she couldn't hear the room. Her own breaths were the sole sound entering through her ears. Rumi tried opening her eyes but her vision was blurry and her head felt heavy. She felt an ache creeping up her back, probably from the bathroom floor. But once the feeling returned to her hands she could feel the softness from under her. CLoth, not tile. Then she realised that the beaming light from the bathroom wasn't there, instead a light orange glare from a lamp. Trying to sit up she felt the sharp nagging pain in her stomach, her arms wanted to fly there but she kept them behind her as she sat. Her eyes were becoming less and less blurry as the pain increased.

This was good.

Feeling a squishy pillow behind her made Rumi confused. Where was she. Why wasn't she in the bathroom? Did Celine find her? Did the girls find her?

Before Rumi could think of these questions any longer she felt a warm hand touch her back. Snapping her head to look at whoever was being so gentle, her vision could make out the loud pink haired girl looking at her. Rumi squinted enough that she could make out Mira's gorgeous face. The stabbing pain ebbed away slightly. But thoughts blew through the damn in her mind. The girls were here. She had been in the bathroom quietly dying on the floor and now she was in (Most likely) Mira's room with the kind of hurt she liked burning in her stomach. She began to panic, bringing her hands around her shoulders as she felt strangely bare. Realising the comfort of her hoodie or jumper wasn't there she became more pale than she was before. Her marks were out. Her disgusting demon marks were in the light of this room and the two girls who she loved more than the world could see them. ‘Why haven't they killed me?’ Rumi thought with utmost honesty.

As she sunk deeper into her despair the hand that had been on her back was placed on her shoulders. Her eyes which were much clearer now focused on the soft expressions on both the girls sitting beside her. She thought about how beautiful and caring they are and how they can possibly look at Rumi like that, now knowing what she is. Rumi wanted to run. Run away back to her dishes and laundry where she wasn't the one they looked at. Where she was the weird girl who never spoke or looked them in the eye. The one who had to bike down on plastic to calm herself down. The girl who was a mystery because she wouldn't let anyone see who she really was. But the pain that filled her body wouldn't let her. So instead, she let out one shaky breath as the tears began falling from her eyes and she surrendered to the quiet room with all the stench she had left.

“Rumi.” Zoey had said with genuine worry.

“How can you guys look at me like that?” Rumi began.
“Like?-”

“Like I matter. Like I'm not some disgusting Mix breed Demon. Like I'm a normal girl who could ever be your friend. Like I deserve to live.” She said, lowering her head to the covers on the bed.

“Shut up Rumi” Mira said

“I don't care what you are. You could be a human or a demon or whatever kind of mix the world had made you. You're beautiful. You matter. I could never hate you for something like this. I'm angry you lied about it, sure, but you're still Rumi. And don't you ever pull some shit like that again, if you had died… ” Mira said, her grip tightening on Rumi's shoulder.

Rumi finally looked up. Zoey and Mira were both crying now.

“Rumi we love you, both of us do and we could never, ever, not. But seriously if you think for one more second you don't drive to live, im going to kill you myself” Zoey said through tears slightly laughing at her own absurdity.

“Im-im sorry guys, I just felt like-, God. I don't even know. I just know I love you guys too” Rumi said slowly leaning into Mira. Zoey joined them in the soft hug on the bed as all three girls had tears streaming down their faces.

-

After a long time of sitting like that Rumi felt exhausted. She calmly lowered herself back into the soft beg as Mira and Zoey tucked her in. Both girls lay a gentle kiss on her forehead as Rumi smiled at them. Mira turned off the light as her and Zoey followed Rumi into the bed. All three of them laid down and stared at the ceiling. Thoughts between all of them were loud.

“Would It be weird If I loved you guys more than anything” Mira said, into the room.

“No,” Zoey and Rumi said at the same time.

The three girls chuckled slightly before Mira continued:

“I don’t think I have ever loved anything more than I love you two. Not hunting, not signing, not even dancing.”

“I feel the same way. The moment I met Mira, then you Rumi, I felt like I was whole” Zoey said with kindness.

“I haven't had a lot of things to love but I know that you guys are my everything, I don't know what I would do without you both”

The three girls sat in their truths as the night took over the sky. Rumi wasn't sure If she was going to be okay. If in the future she would slowly walk back into the bathroom while her mind tried to run. But she did know that two beautiful girls would stand beside her. Her soul was them. Her body belonged to them. And her heart was theirs. She would love them until her last breath and every time in between. Hunter or not.
