Chapter Text
“I’m worried about him.” Patton said as he watched Virgil climb up the stairs to his room. He could feel guilt, dread, and weariness rolling off of the teen in waves. He hated knowing his kiddo felt like this and there was nothing he could do to help.
“I know.” Logan said softly as a calm, steady hand was placed on his shoulder. Patton turned and hugged Logan, letting his calm presence drown out the tempest that was Virgil’s emotions.
Logan wrapped his arms around Patton and started combing his fingers through Patton’s hair which made him hum and melt further into Logan’s embrace. “We will have a talk with him in the morning. But right now, you need to rest. You used a lot of energy healing Prism.” Logan stated.
Patton sighed and buried his face into Logan’s shirt. “I guess… I just don’t really like the idea of leaving him out here alone.”
“He should be alright. He is not bleeding anymore and he will most likely not wake up until the morning. But if it will make you feel any better perhaps we could sleep out here, although we might have to sleep on the floor.” Patton considered it for a moment but shook his head. “No, you’re right he’ll probably be okay. I don’t think I could sleep on the floor if I tried.”
He felt Logan nod and pull away slightly to press a kiss to Patton’s forehead. “Come on, let's get you to bed.” Logan said, taking one of Patton’s hands and leading him up the stairs.
Patton followed after him, exhaustion tugging at his eyes. He hadn’t been able to sleep all night, not after he noticed Virgil was missing. He had been worried sick about him, not knowing where he had gone. He was glad Virgil was safe but he knew there was more to the story than he let on and he hated seeing anyone, let alone his kid, feeling that way.
The door shut quietly behind them as they stepped into their room with the soft daylight lights lighting up the cozy space that always seemed to give him a sense of peace, a break from the outside world where it was just him and Logan.
Logan walked over to the closet in the corner of the room and pulled out something white and fuzzy looking that made the corners of Patton’s lips twitch up in a smile.
Logan wasn’t usually one for fantastical things despite the powers he possessed. Some things were just too farfetched for anyone to believe. Except unicorns, apparently. For some odd reason, Patton had never gotten the answer.
He had found out from coming home one day after work and found Logan curled up on the couch in a unicorn onesie and of course Patton teased him relentlessly about it to this day.
Patton sat down on the edge of the bed and quietly watched Logan change into the onesie for a few moments until he finally broke the silence. “Do… you believe him? Virgil, I mean. That he just found Prism?”
Logan paused and glanced at Patton before zipping up the onesie and walking over to sit beside his husband. “I don’t have any reason not to believe him. Do you believe he was lying?”
Patton leaned against Logan, the touch flooding him with Logan’s calm. Logan’s arm wrapped around his waist and pulled him closer to his side. “I don’t know… he felt really guilty when he was explaining. I just feel like he wasn’t telling us everything.” he murmured as he rested his head on Logan’s shoulder.
Logan hummed thoughtfully and leaned his head on Patton’s “It is quite normal for teens his age to start wanting to become independent often leading them to sneak out of the house or go places they are told specifically not to go.”
Patton nodded and started playing with the soft fabric of Logan’s onesie. “I know…” he sighed. Logan squeezed him gently and placed a kiss on Patton's forehead “It is late, and we both have work in the morning. We should get some sleep. Then we can talk with Virgil and try to figure out what is wrong, okay?”
Patton nodded again and Logan’s arm left Patton’s waist as he scooted back towards the pillows. Patton followed suit and wriggled under the covers almost immediately curling around Logan. The light clicked off seemingly all on its own and he felt Logan shift on to his side facing Patton.
Patton turned too so that his back was pressed against Logan’s chest. Arms wrapped around him, holding him close in a warm embrace, flooding him with Logan’s steady calm and their mixed comfort, drowning out his remaining worries.
He let the steady rise and fall of Logan’s chest lull him into much needed sleep.
