Chapter Text
Peter spent the rest of the early morning sick to his stomach.
The morning had been basically perfect. Quiet and peaceful, full of soft kisses and the gentleness Peter needed inbetween fighting crime and sparring with the Black Widow. Not much else in his life provided Peter with the softness Harley did, even though he had his moments. Typically those soft moments left machine grease on his t-shirt, but some sacrifices were necessary.
After Peter had convinced Tony to let them take one of his cars with the best pair of puppy-dog eyes he could manage, and the butterflies he got in his stomach from seeing his boyfriend handle a super car with ease, the nerves began to gnaw in his stomach instead of the butterflies.
Peter wanted the butterflies back.
They had some time and the car had a good kick to it, so Harley took the most inefficient route possible to Midtown. It may have been because he noticed Peter’s leg bouncing up and down about a million times a second, or how hard he was smushing his face into the palm of his hand while he stared out the window. Either way, Peter took notice when Harley veered off into a side street instead of down one of the main roads like he always did.
His fingers found their way to his mouth, and she started chewing at his nail beds. Scraping at the skin until he lifted a piece, then chewing at that until he bled. It was self-destructing, even though Peter knew he’d be healed in a few hours.
Still, Harley wrapped a hand around his wrist, gently pulling his hand down and away from his mouth. Peter strained against his hold, but all it did was make Harley’s grip even tighter.
And then he casually hit the next left turn, heading further away from Midtown, the car silent beneath their feet. They had just under half an hour, right about the time Peter would be stressing about getging to school on time because New York City could be so unpredictable. If Harley intended to spend that driving, Peter didn’t know.
He took his arm back after a minute, sighing.
Right. Okay. Either this field trip ended so incredibly badly Peter needed to switch schools and change his name, or, maybe, things actually went well for once.
Peter frowned at that. When was the last time anything had gone… well for him?
Dating Harley, he decided. And the whole Spider-Man and Avengers thing he had going on was pretty insane. Also the fact that Iron Man was his dad. Huh. Maybe more than he thought.
Regardless, Peter had to get a handle on this like yesterday.
He was hoping that news of the trip had missed the ears of the Avengers. He never brought it up and Peter didn’t think Pepper would care enough to, if not fixing schedules or some other mundane task. Possibly Tony, but only if he was in a talkative mood.
Would Happy know? Maybe, but didn’t see most of the Avengers. Shut, maybe fate was cutting him a break for once. There was a pretty decent chance that nobody actually knew, and Peter could be in and out before anybody noticed.
And not to mention, he could always ask FRIDAY to delete or edit any footage with him in it out. He knew where the cameras were, he could stay in the blind spots. Nobody would be any the wiser.
Without thinking, he slapped a hand over his face. He just needed to get this over with.
