Chapter Text
Raindrops slid down the window of the cafe. March paced back and forth behind the counter, going from one end of the room to the other for the millionth time. All day she hadn’t been able to keep still.
Stelle sat at a table, dykespreading and making herself comfortable, and kept looking at her phone while she said “It’s gonna be fine, babe. She texted she’s willing to get back together.” March tapped her cheeks with both hands while still walking. Stelle added “Don’t over think it.” March shook her head.
The door opened, and two people walked in, huddled underneath a small black umbrella. Eagerly, March walked around the counter and towards the entrance. Stelle looked up from her phone and rose to her feet.
Firefly folded her umbrella, and droplets landed on the ground. She joked “I found this lost puppy in the rain and decided to keep her.”
Silver Wolf growled.
“She doesn’t bite...too hard.”
Stelle joked “Looks feral, does she have rabies?”
Silver Wolf crossed her arms and silently glowered at her.
“Sorry, Wolfie. I was just kidding. Don’t take it personally.”
“Whatever,” the gamer mumbled.
March said “Firefly.” Her fingers clenched her skirt into bundles. “This might sound cheesy because it’s really hasn’t been that long, but...I’ve missed you so much!”
Firefly smiled sadly. “I’ve missed you too. But...I’m scared you’ll change your mind again.”
“I hope I won’t. At the restaurant it was still really fun, even after you hit your knee...”
“I remember it fondly. It would be heartbreaking if that was the last of our memories together.”
“I really upset you...and now I made it hard for you to trust me again.”
Firefly nodded solemly. “It’ll take some time to earn that trust back. But I hope that we can move past this and feel happy together again.”
“I’m really sorry I broke up with you suddenly, and for silly reasons...”
Firefly shook her head. “Your reasons must have felt important at the time, whatever they were. And it doesn’t matter now. I’m willing to forgive you.”
Stelle grinned. “Epic! That wasn’t so bad, right March?” She ruffled the girl’s hair affectionately.
March said quietly “Uh-huh.”
Firefly leaned forwards, her lips hovering inches from March’s.
March turned her head away, blushing, and asked “Do I...really deserve a kiss?”
Stelle said “Don’t be like thaaaaat,” then put a hand on the back of March’s head, her other hand on the back of Firefly’s, pushed them close, and said “Now kiss.”
March shook her head. “Don’t embarass me!”
Firefly offered “How about a hug instead? I’d hate to make you uncomfortable.”
Eagerly, March embraced her. She said “I still feel guilty...it feels weird to get forgiven so quickly like this...”
“Life is too short to dwell on the past. As long as I get to spend time with you again, I’m happy.”
Stelle said “Well I’m getting a kiss, whether my girlfriend is or not. As long as Firefly’s okay with it?”
“Of course!”
Stelle immediately shoved her tongue in Firefly’s mouth, making her moan.
March, still holding Firefly in her arms, said “You two are cute together...I should really be encouraging you two, like how Stelle encouraged me right from the start. And look how I repaid the favor.”
Stelle shrugged and kept making out with Firefly.
“Not that she’s complaining...”
Silver Wolf turned to walk away.
Stelle separated and asked “Wait a second, puppy. Now where do you think you’re going?”
“I can’t watch this garbage, I’m leaving.”
Firefly asked “What’s wrong?”
Silver Wolf said “Are you ralready forgetting having your feelings toyed with? Just like that? They’ve shown how fickle they really are, you can’t trust them.”
Stelle raised her palms defensively and declared obnoxiously loudly “Well excuuuuuuuse me, princess!”
Everyone glared daggers at her.
She said “Bad time to joke around. Sorry.”
Wolfie gestured at Starch and complained “Neither of them actually care. They’re just yuripilled girlmaxxing, and in a matter of time they’ll date somebody else. They act like real life is just a dating sim and they’re trying all the routes. When they suddenly change their minds again, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Stelle sighed, then spoke quietly, “Look, I’m sorry I changed my mind, okay? I’ve known March for years, and only went on one date with you.”
“That’s hardly an excuse.”
“Imageine if Firefly said you have to choose between me and her, who’d you pick?”
“She wouldn’t do that.”
“If she didn’t want to be poly, would you go on another date with me?”
“That wasn’t a date.”
Annoyed, March exlcaimed “You were making out!”
Silver Wolf blushed. “Fine. Date, hookup, whatever.”
Hands on her hips, March went on “Are you gonna answer Stelle’s question!? Have a little empathy!”
Silver Wolf huffed. “I guess...if an evil version of Firefly wanted me all to herself...” Firefly smiled teasingly, and Silver Wolf looked at the ground and fidgeted. Almost inaudibly, she mumbled “I guess I’d stop hooking up with Stelle.”
Firefly took a couple steps forwards and put her hand on Wolfie’s head. “Good girl.”
Wolfie’s blush deepened and she pushed the hand away. “Whatever. I don’t care,” audibly caring quite a bit.
March said “We should make a plan to something like this doesn’t happen again. I gotta get used to knowing you spend a lot of time with other people, but still, I want time with you too.”
Firefly said “Of course. It’s just that school has been really busy.”
Stelle suggested “Couldn’t Firefly do homework while sitting in the cafe? It’s kinda near campus isn’t it? Just bring your laptop.”
Firefly exclaimed “That’s such a good idea! There’s a bus route I could take to get here easily, and students have a bus pass anyway so it won’t cost me anything.”
“Amazing. You’ll both have work to do but you’ll be at least you’ll be around each other, right?”
March said “That does sound kinda nice...but I won’t I be dealing with customers the whole time?”
Firefly said “Maybe on Monday mornings I could drop by? Are there a lot of customers then?”
“Uh, not really?”
“Great, I’ll bring my laptop. We don’t know how it’ll be unless we try, right?”
“Okay, but if a customer comes in they’ll take priority.”
“Of course. And if I have homework that’ll take priority.”
Stelle joked “Assuming you can even get anything done with such a pretty girl right there.”
March rolled her eyes. “Just because you can’t resist pretty girls, doesn’t mean that everybody is as distractable as you!”
Stelle kissed her cheek.
Firefly asked “I was wondering, March...could you take a picture of Stelle and me? I’ve always wanted a professional photographer.”
March frowned. “I’m not a pro, not even close! But I am in a photography class, so...”
Stelle put an arm around Firefly’s shoulder and pulled her close, and made a peace sign. Firefly’s cheeks were flushed.
March said “Alright,” and took out her camera. “Get ready.”
Firefly adjusted her hair nervously, quickly looking in a pocket mirror before looking back at the camera.
March said “Say cheese! 3...2...1...” Stelle kissed Firefly’s cheek right as the photo was taken, startling her. The photo looked silly with her wide-eyed look of surprise and Stelle’s closed eyes in profile.
Stelle grinned smugly while looking at it.
Firefly elbowed her girlfriend and said “Stelle, you goofball! I didn’t see that coming at all.”
March said “It’s more candid this way! It adds character, I’m keeping it.”
“Um, maybe we could take another one?”
“Nope, this one’s perfect. Lots of personality. I’m gonna print it.”
Stelle kissed Firefly’s forehead and said “Our photographer loves the result. Better trust her professional judgement.”
Firefly said “Okayyy, since she’s the expert...”
Silver Wolf poked March and said “Gimme a pastry.”
“Um, please and thank you?”
“Pastry please.”
March sighed. “If you share it with Firefly then sure.”
Firefly said “Oh, those cupcakes look amazing!”
Wolfie said “Blue one.”
March went to the counter and cut the cupcake in half.
Stelle ruffled Silver Wolf’s hair. The gamer told her “I still haven’t totally forgiven you, you know.”
“I know. I’m still hoping we can go back to that arcade again sometime.”
“This time I’m gonna kick your ass.”
“You’re on.”
