Chapter Text
Roh Yuna reminded herself who she really was, staring back at the mirror was the tall, smart and serious officer who dealt every day with normal problems like giving park tickets, having to hear people cry after getting caught stealing and having to help elderly cross the street and more.
What she did not do was randomly find a woman who claimed to be her wife, which wasn’t even the worst part.
The worst part was that Yuha couldn’t even tell what an ID card meant, couldn’t understand why Ian’s car needed a belt for safety and couldn’t remember any other family member other than A-na.
A-na looked deep into her own eyes before letting them drift down to her ring.
The ring made everything even more confusing, A-na had no idea from where Yuha got her ring and the fact that it was the exact same ring A-na had just in gold.
The exact same design, every little detail.
Yuha could remember A-na, even remember small habits A-na had which should’ve felt creepy but it didn’t.
But why couldn’t A-na remember Yuha?
Why couldn’t she remember what Yuha’s favorite color was if they were lovers?
Why couldn’t she name Yuha’s favorite food?
“Stop, this is stupid. I’m stupid. I don’t know her and she doesn’t know me.” A-na whispered to herself, glaring at her reflection with her jaw clenched.
Overthinking will kill me one day.
She forced herself to look away from her own reflection before she could do something stupid like punch the mirror from anger, the itch in her fist didn’t go away, the urge only grew stronger and stronger.
Her eyes glanced back at the mirror already raising her fist but catching herself again at the right time. She didn’t know why she felt so angry, she had always been a very cold person with everyone except for the few handful of friends she had.
A-na shook her head, deciding to crack her knuckles instead.
Her ears picked up the sound of the shower again, somehow Yuha had decided to let the bathroom door stay slightly open because she was afraid of being alone in a room.
Which A-na couldn’t understand but decided to let Yuha do whatever she wanted to do.
She didn’t know how long she had stayed at the same spot, staring at the wall while thinking about the same stuff over and over again.
It was driving her insane.
She wasn’t married, no matter how hard she tried to remember a wedding she just couldn’t. All A-na could remember were some rooms she had never seen in her entire life but other than that… there was nothing.
A-na didn’t even remember Yuha at all, she couldn’t remember Yuha’s birthday or what her personality was when they were married which made it clear that Yuha was a stranger and not her wife.
“Zoning out?” The gentle voice of her wife snapped A-na out of her trance, she blinked a few times realizing she was facing the wall and staring at absolutely nothing.
The tall officer turned around, facing Yuha with a blank expression, concealing the fact that she had been overthinking about every little thing related to Yuha.
“I don’t overthink, I just think.”
A-na’s answer made Yuha smile slightly. “Sure, Yuna.”
Yuha stood so close that she had to tilt her head slightly up to meet A-na’s eyes, making this whole interaction even more intimate. A-na had never noticed their height difference but now that she saw it she… couldn’t unsee it.
A-na was the first one to break eye contact, looking to the side to avoid Yuha’s eyes, she couldn’t handle staring more into Yuha’s eyes, it made her feel weird.
Like she was nervous.
She had never felt nervous, not even while giving her final exams or having to explore an area with possible dead bodies which she had to do a few times.
“Let’s dry your hair.” A-na finally muttered out, she glanced at Yuha who slowly nodded and reached out again to hold the taller girl’s hand once again. The older girl squeezed A-na’s hand as she followed A-na again without further questioning.
The taller girl ignored the way she noticed how much Yuha actually trusted her which made everything feel strange again. She didn’t like the feeling.
A-na stopped in front of her drawer and started searching for her hairdryer. She had used it yesterday and just tossed it aside without any second thoughts, but now she couldn’t remember where exactly she had placed it.
Just as she was about to give up and dry Yuha’s hair by shaking her like a protein shake, A-na realized where her hairdryer was.
Ian.
“Well, I guess we have to shake you dry then.” A-na turned around, facing Yuha once again with an awkward small smile. Yuha tilted her head, confused at what A-na meant until A-na took the towel from the bed and raised it up slightly.
Yuha immediately realized what A-na meant by shaking her dry and she did not like the idea of being dried like a kitten after a shower. “No. A-na, stop.”
“Sorry, Ian stole the hairdryer and she’s probably asleep by now.” A-na grabbed Yuha’s arm before the smaller girl could escape the drying method. “And Ian locks her room when she sleeps so we can’t get the hairdryer which means this is the only option left.”
“I can sleep with wet hair!” Yuha protested, for the first time being the person to pull away from their contact but A-na shook her head clearly stubborn.
“No, I don’t want you to soak my pillows.” A-na finally managed to trap Yuha between her and the wall which meant Yuha had no other option than to face A-na’s ridiculous drying method.
“I’ll get my revenge.” Yuha glared up at A-na who looked with an unconvinced look back at Yuha.
“I’m sure you will.” Before Yuha could say another witty comeback, A-na finally raised the towel fully and wrapped it around Yuha’s head before drying her like a kitten, not really realizing that Yuha’s hair would look messy and tangled at the end, instead she kept trying until she felt Yuha lightly hit her arm, motioning her to stop.
“Way better” A-na tossed the towel on her chair and gave Yuha an approved smile, Yuha on the other hand looked rather angry at A-na.
“Whatever…” Yuha rolled her eyes, she walked past A-na shoulder-checking her in the way. It wasn’t hard, it felt more like shoulder brushing but A-na got the message.
Yuha wasn’t happy.
Which A-na couldn’t care less about that, at least her pillows wouldn’t get soaked in water. Her eyes followed Yuha who was brushing her hair with A-na’s hairbrush without even asking. The taller girl just stared at her with no shame.
Yuha’s eyes kept flickering to hers, meeting them before looking away again, the silence wasn’t as uncomfortable as A-na would’ve imagined, instead it felt kinda… normal.
A-na let her eyes finally drift down towards her bed, she sat down, leaning back on her hands before her eyes found Yuha again.
How come Yuha never complained? Doesn’t she hate getting stared at?
The taller girl let out a small sigh, forcing herself to look away before finally breaking the silence.
“Officer kang probably told everyone that I’m dating.” A-na let out a small scoff, shaking her head before continuing. “they all think I’m some cold hearted person with no feelings, this will definitely be the gossip of the year.” She added, not even wanting to go tomorrow to work because she would get bombarded by questions.
A-na had expected some kind of comment from Yuha, maybe to correct her that they weren’t dating, they were married or how A-na should be happy but instead all she got was silence.
Which made A-na finally look at Yuha realizing something was wrong, the moment her eyes landed on Yuha she noticed how the older girl had stopped brushing her hair and froze in space, looking at A-na back with wide and fearful eyes.
Her face had become slightly pale and A-na saw the slight tremble in Yuha’s body but this time it wasn’t from coldness.
“Yuha?” A-na called out, confusedly getting up from the bed now to make her way over and check on Yuha.
“Hey, I’m talking to you so answer.” The officer’s voice had a slightly intimidating tone in it which seemed to have no effect on Yuha because Yuha still looked like she’d seen a ghost.
A-na slowly felt concern creep up, she hurried towards Yuha, locking eyes with her in the mirror before finally reaching the older girl.
Yuha didn’t turn around which made everything further weirder and confusing instead she just stayed frozen in place until A-na put her warm hand on Yuha’s shoulder and forced her to turn around.
The moment their eyes met A-na saw the flash of fear mixed with anger and hurt again.
“Talk to me–” The officer never got to finish her sentence. Instead she had been slapped so hard by Yuha, she swore she saw white spots invading her vision, sending her nearly to god.
The taller girl lightly staggered back, more from shock than pain, her head had snapped to the left side from Yuha’s force.
A-na stayed frozen in place, she didn’t feel anger like she usually would’ve felt instead she felt this nervous feeling filling her chest.
“Are you fucking stupid?” Yuha’s shaky voice broke the silence which also made A-na snap back to reality, the tall officer’s brown eyes met Yuha’s.
A-na’s hand lifted, touching her burning cheek lightly with her fingertips, she winced the moment her fingertips connected with her own cheek.
And then she felt it, a warm, metallic smelling liquid dripping down her chin, she realized that Yuha’s ring had cut her skin accidentally. The taller girl pulled her hand away from her face and looked down at her blood covered fingertips before giving Yuha her full attention again.
“That–” A-na started but got cut off by Yuha aggressively shoving her back, A-na didn’t really stumble, she just took half a step back to give Yuha space.
Only for Yuha to close the distance between them by grabbing her collar and pulling the officer down on eye level. “They will kill you again, Yuna! Don’t you get it?! They will literally kill you.” She whispered in fear, eyes already bloodshot from crying too much in such a short span of time.
“What are you talking about–”
The older girl again didn’t let A-na talk at all, she just turned around, frantically trying to find a spot to hide A-na, she looked like she was about to pass out which made the officer grow slightly concerned. “Yuha, calm down.”
“No! You don’t get it!” Yuha’s voice grew louder and cracky as she talked through her tears. “I won’t lose you again Yuna, not this time.”
A-na reached out and grabbed Yuha’s arm pulling her close, she didn’t know how to comfort someone but she knew that Yuha loved physical touch especially if the person was Roh Yuna.
Despite hating being hugged too closely and for too long A-na pulled Yuha into her arms, wrapping them tightly around Yuha’s waist hoping she could somehow make this situation less… confusing.
Roh Yuna still couldn’t understand what Yuha meant by them killing her, she didn’t understand but didn’t dare to ask for more information.
“I need you to calm down.” A-na whispered into Yuha’s hair, Yuha had wrapped arms tightly around A-na too, crying silently while holding her lover with all the strength she had.
It almost seemed like Yuha was afraid to lose A-na again.
But how could Yuha lose A-na again if A-na had never been hers?
A-na looked down at the girl who was still crying with her face hidden in A-na’s neck, every warm breath hitting A-na, reminding the taller girl that she was holding a crying stranger who claimed to be her wife.
“I didn’t even get to bury you… please hide this time. Please…” She whispered into the officer‘s neck, voice still raw from crying. Just as Yuha’s legs gave up, A-na caught her and held her tightly up. She didn’t know why she felt her chest tighten, seeing Yuha like this.
“No one will kill me, not when we are together okay?” A-na tried to reassure her girl, one hand still around the other girl's waist, holding her up while the other had made its way up, gently scratching her head to comfort her. After a while she felt Yuha weakly nod which was enough for A-na to feel slightly relieved.
At least she stopped crying.
But who was ‘they’?
“So what if Officer Kang tells everyone I'm dating you? I don’t care about other people’s opinions, you know.” A-na gently said, her voice lower than usual.
Yuha pulled away slightly just to look into A-na’s eyes with her own watery eyes “No, please deny it, they will kill you. Yuna, don't be stupid.” Her voice came out shaky, threatening to crack again.
“No one will kill me for loving you.”
“You said the exact same thing before and died! Please deny when they ask you, I don’t want to deal with being here without you!“ Yuha’s voice got louder at the end of her sentence and A-na finally realized what exactly Yuha was saying.
A-na studied the older girl’s face for a while. Yuha wasn’t lying, the tears and crack in her voice wasn’t fake, Yuha was genuinely terrified for A-na.
“Yu haram…” The officer started with a serious tone. “Officer Kang and the others aren’t gonna kill me for dating you.” As A-na finished her sentence she narrowed her eyes focusing on Yuha’s reaction only.
Yuha didn’t believe her, A-na saw that, the way Yuha slightly frowned at A-na thinking the officer was lying to her to make her feel better. “If you think they won’t kill you again then you’re stupid.” Yuha’s voice wavered slightly, she still stayed with her opinion. “I won’t let you go there tomorrow.”
The taller girl couldn’t really understand why Yuha was being so protective, sure homophobic people still existed but it was 2026 no one was gonna kill A-na for dating a girl.
“Yuha, I’m pretty sure my colleagues are gonna react positively since they finally got some gossip about me.” The taller girl said, letting out a sigh already not wanting to deal tomorrow.
“Let’s talk about this tomorrow again, okay?” A-na’s voice softened again, she gently wiped away Yuha’s tears. “We need to sleep, c’mon.” The officer added with a gentle tone hoping Yuha wouldn’t argue further, A-na had been working all night and now that the clock was threatening to hit 6am made her even more sleepy.
Yuha looked at A-na and slowly nodded, she leaned into her wife’s touch before gently pulling her hand away from her face only to intertwine them together, again never really wanting to end the physical touch between them.
Despite the room being A-na’s, Yuha was the one to drag A-na towards the bed, the older girl was the first one to climb under the blanket, holding it open for A-na to join.
At first A-na hesitated, she wasn’t really a big fan of sharing bed with people even with Ian she had a pretty hard time.
She had agreed once to have a sleepover in Ian’s room despite literally living in the same house and working the exact same shifts.
It had ended up in a disaster, A-na kept waking up because Ian couldn’t stay still while sleeping, she nearly killed A-na by unconsciously hitting A-na’s throat with her elbow, which had ended up making the taller girl choke for air and ultimately decide to make a pillow border between them.
Ian had called her a certain name for that move.
“A-na?” Yuha called out, A-na snapped out of her thoughts and let out a confused hum before realizing Yuha was still waiting for her.
“Uh… right.” A-na awkwardly laid down, next to Yuha, staring at the ceiling as she laid stiff like a board, A-na didn’t see the way Yuha looked at her and smiled despite the exhausting emotional rollercoaster she had gone through a few minutes ago.
Yuha curled up against A-na, gently tangling their legs together and using A-na’s arm as a pillow. A-na didn’t move at all, she just let Yuha cuddle however she wanted to, since she wasn’t really sure what the older girl liked anyways.
“Hold me.” Yuha’s voice cut through A-na’s mind, the taller girl blinked a few times before realizing that Yuha had asked her to hold her, she slowly turned her head to the side, meeting her wife’s gaze, seeing that Yuha meant whatever she said.
“I’m not really a fan of holding someone while sleeping.” A-na muttered, hoping that Yuha would let her be and that using A-na’s arm as a pillow would be enough.
Instead A-na felt Yuha tug at her waist, trying to force A-na to face her.
The officer closed her eyes, deciding to give up fighting since she knew Yuha would end up winning anyways, somehow the older girl had unlimited amounts of energy when it came to arguing.
A-na slowly turned her body, facing the smaller girl now who looked happy that the taller had complied with her request without arguing at all despite acting cold.
Yuha buried her face in A-na’s neck before the officer could even realize what Yuha was doing, she had no chance but to hold Yuha since the girl was glued onto her like a leech.
Despite everything, A-na felt a small smile tug at her lips, she slowly wrapped her free arm around Yuha’s waist, slipping her hand underneath the older’s shirt to rest her warm hand on the girl’s bare back before burying her face into Yuha’s hair, with every inhale the scent of Yuha invading her.
Somehow A-na’s arms around her were enough for Yuha to instantly fall asleep without muttering another word, which gave A-na the chance to finally pull away but instead she decided to keep holding her wife.
There was one thing the officer couldn’t forget though…
Why did Yuha react so badly when A-na had said that Officer Kang would tell everyone that they were dating?
She hadn’t said anything back in the station in front of Officer Kang, nor had she said something afterwards.
Maybe Yuha just forgot?
It made no sense. Everything about Yuha made zero sense.
The officer shook her head slightly, wincing as she accidentally brushed her injury against Yuha’s head.
Right, Yuha slapped the shit outta me.
She knew she shouldn’t sleep without treating her injury properly, but for A-na it really wasn’t a big deal, she would just deal with it tomorrow since she didn’t really wanna move right now and accidentally wake Yuha up.
So A-na closed her eyes, the warmth radiating from her wife was enough for her to feel more drowsy, after a while she finally surrendered to sleep.
