Chapter Text
Kirishima barely knew what was happening. One second he was freaking the hell out about his newly discovered crush on his best friend, and now he was in a van with all of his friends going to this random camping site because Mina had stated everyone was 'stressed' lately, especially him.
Which she wasn't wrong, being a hero means having barely any time off, which can ultimately cause stress, but Kirishima was also being moody because his crush was sleeping with someone else every night.
After the war and Bakugo came back, he would waltz into Kirishima's room and he fell asleep within two minutes. After that, every night Bakugo would waddle his way into Kirishima's room and fall asleep. Kirishima didn't mind at all, he actually enjoyed his best friends company.
But now, since Kirishima had been so busy with cases lately and slowly growing more and more popular with the media, he was barely home. So Bakugo couldn't sleep. He basically just used Kaminari as a pillow, but Kirishima couldn't help but feel jealousy bubble up in his chest. It was hot, painful, and obnoxious. Kirishima hated feeling like this. He wasn't insecure, it just was annoying. He thought the weird sleep routine between him and Bakugo only. So he couldn't help but feel that hot, painful and obnoxious feeling whenever Bakugo goes off and uses Denki as a pillow, hell he even fell asleep on Mina once or twice.
This isn't manly at all...
Kirishima thought to himself. He really needed to get things together. He wasn't going to let this make him lose his confidence and turn into that helpless, scared middle schooler again.
He leaned the side of his face against the window. It was already dark on the road. They weren't supposed to get to the camping site until the morning. Kirishima tried to distract himself with the soft sounds of the radio or his friends talking in the back seats. He avoided looking at Katsuki. Because whenever he did, his heart felt like it beating at a million beats per minute. This crush was going to kill him.
He had just realized earlier, but how long has he had these feelings? Was it longer, when they first started living together? Sometime in highschool? It would be pathetic if he's had it since highschool, because that was years ago now.
"Hey, Kiri! Did you know there's a lake we can go swimming in at the site? And since we're renting it out, it'll just be us!" Mina asked him excitedly. He was greatful for her, she distracted his running thoughts.
"Oh really? I didn't bring any swim trunks or anything." He told her.
"I didn't pack a swim suit, either." Jirou added.
"It's fine! Just swim in your panties!" Mina assured. Jirou immediately got flustered. Denki, who was in the very back with Sero and was leaning his entire body to just be included in the conversation, also blushed.
"Or! Better yet, we could skinny dip!" Mina giggled.
Hanta leaned forward, his head next to Denki's.
"Skinny dipping? Are we back in highschool?" He asked jokingly. Mina huffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
"You know we barely had any time to do anything fun like that back in highschool! We were too busy training and now we are too busy being heros! So yeah, let's skinny dip." She declared. Jirou still looked uncertain.
"I dunno if I want to do that." She said, twirling her earphone jack around her finger nervously. Kirishima frowned. He didn't want any of his friends to feel uncomfortable.
"You don't have to do it if you don't want to." Kirishima suggested. Kaminari nodded in agreement.
"Yeah! Don't listen to Mina!" He yelled. Mina looked offended.
"I was trying to suggest something fun! Sorry, Jirou, babe." Mina apologized. Jirou waved her hand to signal her that she was alright.
"It's okay, and I appreciate you wanting to do something fun. Maybe I'll be down for it, we'll see." Jirou told her. Mina got ecstatic again. Kirishima smiled. He adored his friends.
"Eijiro." He heard Bakugo's voice say. It was softer than his usual talking voice. Kirishima tuned everything out immediately and turned his head back over to Bakugo.
"Yeah?" He asked, shifting so he could look at Bakugo."
"Could you drive soon? I'm getting drowsy after staring at the road for so long." He requested. Kirishima nodded.
"Oh yeah. We should stop too, get out and stretch our legs and get something to eat or something." Kirishima suggested. Bakugo nodded, putting the blinker on and pulling into a gas station.
Kaminari practically jumped out of the van once it was parked. Yelling about needing to take a piss. Jirou and Mina were laughing at his ass while he sprinted into the store. Sero got out and streched his long limbs, taking his time to go into the store. Kirishima got out as well, he was planning on going into the store as well when Bakugo grabbed his wrist and tugged him back.
"You good, Kats?" Kirishima asked. Bakugo just stared at him.
"I dunno. Are you okay? I've never seen you so ticked off my something until earlier." He inquired. Ah, I almost forgot about that. Kirishima thought.
He pulled his hand to rub the back of his neck, a habit he does when he gets a bit nervous.
"Yeah, I guess I'm just been a bit stressed with all the work I've been doing recently, I guess. Kinda glad we're doing this surprise vacation." He elaborates. Bakugo nodded. He didn't look entirely convinced, but his movements were getting slower and even his speech was getting toned down. Definitely past his bed time.
"And I guess I've just been a bit worried about you." Kirishima admitted. Bakugo looked a bit surprised. "About your sleep routine, or whatever..." he added quickly. God he was so nervous and embarrassed. Not manly. Damn! He really needed to fix that.
Bakugo's expression changed from a surprised face to a small smile that almost melted Kirishima's insides into a gaint pile of mush.
"Don't worry about me. Kaminari is surprisingly a nice pillow, but he moves too much. I find that I sleep the best when you're around." He emphasized. While saying the last part, he pulled Kirishima's hood over his head. The gesture was small, but it had Kirishima's cheeks turn as red as his cheeks.
"U-uh, good to know. I'm um, Ima go and buy somethin' want anything?" Kirishima manged to stutter out while shoving his thumb back over to the gas station.
Bakugo shook his head and shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Nah, I'm going to sit in the car. See you." He asked, already opening the door and getting in. Kirishima just nodded and turned to the gas station and headed inside.
He lifted his hands and pulled the hood over his head even more. Katsuki had him a melting mush after a few touches. He was going to die before even thinking about getting over this crush.
While entering the store, he saw that Kaminari was suggesting an energy drink to Jirou. He kept fidgeting with his hands, obviously nervous. Jirou seemed to notice, but instead of laughing at him like she usually does, she just smiled that made Denki blush madly.
Cute.
Kirishima thought, he wondered if anyone thought of him and Bakugo like that.
Wait what? Get it together man!
Kirishima took in a deep breath and quickly went to the bathroom and bought himself an energy drink so he can last the few hours left of driving. Soon everyone was back in the van and they were back on the road.
Katsuki quickly fell asleep, and mostly everyone did. Kirishima eyes wondered from Bakugo's sleeping form from time to time. His heart kept skipping a beat thinking back to what he said. I find that I sleep the best when you're around. Kirishima was definitely assured now. He wasn't so sure Bakugo viewed it as special like Kirishima did, but he was happy with this.
The soft hum of the van's engine kept his mind blank. He understood what Bakugo meant, staring at the same road did make you drowsy. Even with the energy drink, Kirishima's eyes felt heavy. As soon as they got to that camp site, he was immediately sleeping.
---
All Bakugo could hear was the soft drone of the van's engine. The sun had now risen, and it's soft light was waking Bakugo up slowly. He finally woke up fully when the hum of the engine was cut off.
He blinked awake, looking over at Kirishima who had both of his hands on the wheel. He was blinking slowly. Probably tired from driving so long. Bakugo turned his head at the groans of everyone waking up.
He decided to just get out and stretch his limbs, maybe go piss in a bush. But Mina had other ideas. As soon as she got out, she headed to the pack of the van and opened the trunk. She got out three folded tents and waddled her way to the gaint open space a few hundred feet from the lake she mentioned and placed them down.
Jirou came out, frowning. She got very grumpy whenever she didn't get the rest she wanted. Denki stumbled out, not aware Jirou was there. Bakugo left them and Sero to deal with the tangled mess while he went off and found somewhere to take a piss.
When he came back, he found the damn extras in a jumbled mess. Jirou was staring at the tent Mina was setting up like it personally offended her. Sero had a joint halfway out of his mouth while struggling with the tent, and Denki was reading out useless instructions. And then the third tent, still laid unfolded on the ground.
Bakugo glanced back to the van, Kirishima was knocked out cold in there. Bakugo wasn't going to mess with him. He needed his sleep.
Bakugo shuffled over to his folded tent and picked up the instructions, giving them one good look through before getting to work. Before you knew it, Bakugo had already set up the tent. The others were still crying because they couldn't get theirs up. Bakugo sighed, going over to the girls tent first.
"Lemme do it, Pinky." Bakugo said, pushing out of the way and fixing her lopsided tent. Jirou was still staring at it. He hoped someone brought coffee or something, or Jirou would look like that all day. He decided to let Denki and Hanta figure it out on their own while he went to go fetch Kirishima.
He opened the driver's side of the door gently. He placed a hand on Kirishima's shoulder so he wouldn't fall out of the car. It took a couple shakes before the red-head finally was awake.
"I got our tent set up. If you want to sleep more in there you can." Bakugo said softly.
Kirishima eyes fluttered open and he yawned. His movements were still slow and...
Fuck.
Bakugo thought to himself. Kirishima looked adorable like this. Bakugo was internally cussing himself out for getting so soft. Kirishima shuffled out of the car and immediately went to the tent to go back to sleep. Hanta and Denki were still struggling with their tent. Bakugo decided to let them keep struggling and had Kyoka and Mina help him get a fireplace started.
Hours later, Denki cheered in victory when he finally got the tent up. Hanta eyes were already red, his movements slow and loose. Bakugo and the girls already had a fire burning and was cooking meat they some how acquired. Kirishima finally came out from his tent, yawning and stretching. He sat himself next to Bakugo and started to munch on the meat Bakugo handed him.
"I never needed any help on that tent." Denki declared.
"You spent hours putting it up." Kyoka fired back. Denki frowned and went back to nibbling on his piece of meat.
Mina sighed next to Kyoka. She was already done eating and she was being impatient. She had been talking about swimming in the lake for hours.
"You know what would be really nice, a dip in the lake." Denki mentioned. Mina immediately perked up.
"Yes! C'mon!" She exclaimed, pulling Bakugo up from his butt and dragging him towards the lake. While running to the water, Mina shed her clothes, not caring where they would go. Bakugo rolled his eyes, but when he saw that Kirishima was also running in, he followed him.
Denki smiled to himself and took off his shoes, socks, and shirt. He was wearing shorts that he didn't mind getting wet. Sero was passed out. Too much weed. The only other person that wasn't in the water besides Denki was Kyoka. She looked uncertain. Denki frowned. This was supposed to be a vacation. She was supposed to be having fun.
"Hey, Kyo, are you getting in the water?" He asked. She glanced over at Denki and then back at the water, where Mina was doing backflips off of Kirishima's shoulders and almost landing on Bakugo who looked like he was about to blow the both of them up.
"I wanna, but I don't have a swim suit and I don't wanna, um..." She faltered at the end, Denki understood what she was trying to say.
"Then just swim in your shirt and shorts! No one cares!" He suggested, holding out his hand. She glanced back at Denki, a bit surprised he said that. Denki felt oddly nervous and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Only if you're comfortable." He added on. Kyoka smiled a bit and nodded.
"Do you uh, wanna go in together?" She asked, way more confident if Denki had asked. Even if he was a bit nervous, the thought of swimming after sweating so much and struggling with the tent was too exciting.
"Yeah! C'mon!" He exclaimed, already grabbing Kyoka's hand and dragging her into the lake.
She yelped, but then she was later on laughing when Denki started to splash her. She reciprocated, also splashing Denki. She felt the most free she had in the while. It was relaxing, just being able to act like normal young adults.
Suddenly, there was a gaint splash that made Kyoka lose her balance. Kirishima got on top of a gaint rock in the lake and decided to belly flop into the water that made gaint waves. Just as Kyoka was about to fall into the water, Denki caught her, but it ended them up in an awkward position.
Denki had leaned over to catch Kyoka, so now he was leaned over her and trying to balance his wobbly body, with also trying not to breathe on Kyoka's face because they were that close.
"Um...Denki?" Kyoka mumbled. Kaminari tried his best to reposition himself, but he had no luck.
"I'm trying here, just give me a sec–" in the middle of his sentence, Mina 'accidentally' bumped into him, which resulted him falling on Kyoka.
They fell into the water, it splashing up into their face. Denki wasn't worried about that, he was worried about Kyoka.
"Shit! You okay?" He stuttered out, trying to get himself off of her, but Kyoka was...laughing.
It was loud and she was snorting. She couldn't control it. And Denki was falling head over heals with her in that moment. He couldn't help but admire her. Her pretty face, the way her wet hair stuck to her face made her look even cuter than normal. The way her cheeks were turning pink because she was laughing so much made Denki's brain turn into a gooey mush.
"Sor-sorry! It's just I–" Kyoka tried to speak, but it was bubbled into laughs. Kaminari grinned ear to ear while helping her up.
"It can't be that funny." He muses. Kyoka shook her head.
"But it was!" She giggled again, shuffling closer to the shore. Denki followed close behind her.
"You squealed like a little girl!" She added. Denki pretended to pout like a little kid, but he couldn't help his grin.
"I did not." Denki replied.
"You did too." Kyoka insisted.
"Nuh uh!" Denki fired back.
The entire way back to the shore, they kept bickering like that, with the both of them smiling ear to ear.
"Awww they're so cute! Right guys?" Mina analyzed. She, Bakugo, and Kirishima already headed out of the water and were warming up by the fire, and also watching Kaminari and Jirou be cute with each other.
"Totally! And it was so manly of Kaminari to try and save Jirou, and then make sure she's okay later on!" Kirishima added. Mina turned to him, her expression changing from normal, to surprise, then amusement. Because Bakugo was pouting like a little kid and huddled up next to Kirishima because the breeze had finally set in after they swam. Apparently he got cold easily and Kirishima ran warm naturally.
"You two are cute as well." Mina notes.
"HUH?" Bakugo yelled, but Mina was already on her way over to her tent.
"Stupid mina calling us cute..." Bakugo grumbled underneath his breath. Kirishima just snorted and shifted closer to Bakugo. The blonde leaned his head against the red head's shoulder. He was already wearing Kirishima's hoodie, he decided that leaning his head on the red-head's shoulder isn't that bad to do in front of their friends.
