Chapter Text
Louis kept visiting Owen. Legundo never said anything about what had happened between him and his patient on their first meeting. Sometimes he kept information to himself and Louis knew that, he knew Legundo struggled to break his confidentiality on certain cases.
Louis was in awe of Owen. He spoke at great lengths about his character and his skill. Apparently Owen was building a cabin for himself in the woods.
“Owen…” Legundo said as he wiped down the man’s arm. He paused at a section that needed some extra swipes of his damp cloth. He made sure not to add pressure, he wasn’t intending to make the man’s skin worse, he was only trying to keep him clean and pain free. “I heard that you are building a house…”
The human stiffened in his grip. “Uh… where did you hear that from?” He asked.
Legundo hummed. “That’s not important. Are you aware Oakhurst has an inn you can stay at?”
Owen huffed. “An inn full of people? Are you aware I’m sick doctor?” He teased back.
Legundo smiled. “I know. I’m sure I could organise for a quarantined room where you can have food and drink delivered-“
“No.” Owen cut him off.
“No?” Legundo raised a brow at him.
“I’m not risking that.” Owen shook his head. “I’m not hurting anyone here on my way out.”
Legundo nodded as he dipped his cloth in the bucket next to him then wrung it out to continue gently washing the man’s skin.
“While that is honourable, you are going to hurt yourself.” He said.
“So?” Owen scoffed.
“It’s important to me that you don’t injure yourself.” Legundo said gravely. “You should not be doing manual labour in this state-“
“I’ve been doing it my whole life.” Owen refuted. “It’s how I fed myself.”
Legundo exhaled. “A sick man shouldn’t need to work to pay for his meals.”
“A contagious man does not get the benefit of assistance.” Owen said. “You shouldn’t be near me.”
“And yet here I am…” Legundo traced a thumb over his clear skin as he got the last of the puss off him. “I understand you must be stubborn,” He checked over his notes and wrote a few things down. Owen’s sores had changed state again. “I admit I have that streak in me too… so I won’t waste my breath asking you to stop. All I will say is hire some helping hands to move the beams where you want them.” He met Owen’s eye and smiled, “I’m sure Louis would be overjoyed if you asked for his assistance, he’s quite impressed with your talent.”
Owen blushed and spluttered. “I… How do you know about Louis?” He asked.
“He told me about you.” Legundo replied. “And about your new house.” He added as he wrapped Owen’s arm in fresh bandages.
“He’s not-“ Owen fumbled.
“He won’t get sick.” Legundo assured. “Not by chopping trees and moving resources where you need them.”
“A-alright…” Owen said.
Legundo was extra careful as he pinned the bandages down. “Take care of yourself Owen.”
He didn’t get an answer.
