Chapter Text

Is it just me or is this elevator taking forever?

After a whole minute, the elevator finally opens.

I step out and hear Sprout loudly mumbling (?),

“Stupid, stupid, stupid..” He hits his head against the wall.

Weird..

I walk into the kitchen, just slightly, and see Sprout giving me a death stare.

“Go.” He shooes me.

He doesn’t usually act this cold. Maybe he got into a fight with Cosmo, that’s why they aren’t together right now.

It’s not my business at all.

“Why?” I ask.

“Because I said so. You aren’t allowed in the kitchen.”

“Okay, you could’ve told me that first.”

Sprout turns away from me, giving me a cold shoulder.

“Now, leave me alone…” His voice wobbles slightly.

When I started walking, I heard Sprout mumble,

“I’m sorry, Vee…”

I walk to a booth and sit down, seeing all of the conversations from other Toons.

My antennas perk up at one conversation that’s definitely very… Different.

“I’m telling you, something’s up with those two.”

“I know! I haven’t seen them talk since yesterday. Which is weird, because they talk everyday!”

“All day, every day. Something’s very wrong.”

I put my head down on the table, listening closely.

“It’s not really my business, but I can’t help but to be a bit concerned.”

“Why don’t you ask him yourself?”

“He’s been pushing everybody away. And, he doesn’t even like me to begin with.”

“I see…”

(Whoever is talking is left up to interpretation.)

I really shouldn’t be listening.

I lay there with my head down for a couple of minutes, before I hear screaming coming from the kitchen.

“THIS MY KITCHEN, GOD DAMNIT! GET OUT!”

“Sprout, calm down… please.”

“NO! I.. I—!” He starts sobbing.

Damn, that’s tragic. I could never.

“Sprout, please just… calm down.”

Sprout takes a deep breath before speaking again.

“I’m sorry, Cosmo. Please, just… I don’t know if I can do anything without you.”

I peek my head inside the kitchen, behind a pillar.

I feel something hard press against my leg.

And to nobody’s surprise, it was Pebble.

“Arf!” Pebble barked loud enough for Sprout and Cosmo to turn their heads.

I quietly shush Pebble and pick him up.

“What the?” Cosmo turns his head, he doesn’t see me, so he thinks that Pebble is levitating.

I swiftly sneak away with Pebble.

“You wanna play catch?” I say to Pebble.

He barks.

I walk over to the storage closet, and start rummaging through it, before I find a ball.

I pick the ball up and walk over to the grass section, Pebble following me.
I sit down, resting on the bush before throwing the ball.

Pebble runs over and quickly catches it, running over and giving the ball back.

I keep on throwing the ball, until I notice footsteps in the grass, drawing closer. They weren’t loud like Sprout’s, they were gentle, more… careful.

“Hey, Vee.” Cosmo sits down beside me, watching me throw the ball.

“Is this about Sprout? If it is, then-”

“Yes, it is. We got into a bunch of fights recently. That’s why he hasn’t been acting normal.” Cosmo interrupts me. Rude.

“So, are you about to ask me to help him? Is that what you’re about to say?” I ask.

Whenever he talks to me it’s almost always “Sprout this, Sprout that, yadda yadda”.

“Yes, how’d you know?” Cosmo asks.

“Ahh… uhh.. Lucky guess?”

Cosmo squints his eyes, but shrugs it off.

“Sorry if this comes off as mean, but… I’m kind of tired of him, and I’d rather someone who he isn’t mad at help him…” Cosmo sighs.

“No.” I say before walking off, throwing the ball to Cosmo.

“Wait- I’m sorry!”

I turn back around, raising an eyebrow.

“There’s nothing to be sorry about, Cosmo. I just said no.” I turn around again, walking away.

I can hear Cosmo sigh as he stands up.

“Let’s go, Pebs.” I can hear Cosmo say from afar.

Was I being too rude?
