Chapter Text
Kou carefully picked up Mitsuba’s old camera like it was a sacred object. With Mitsuba hovering behind him with a frown it might as well be one.
Today, one of those rare days when their respective roles demanded less than usual, Mitsuba had taken pity on Kou’s ignorance and taken it upon himself to teach him some of the basics of photography. Kou had to admit he hadn’t always been the biggest fan of photos but ever since meeting Mitsuba every time he saw one he was reminded of the pink haired ghost.
He couldn’t in full honesty say it was always a good type of reminder, after all both of them had some pretty horrible memories surrounding photos and Kou was pretty sure he wasn’t going to forget Mitsuba’s (second?) death anytime soon. But it was like Yashiro said, that was only really a reason to make newer, better, memories with each other.
Whatever photos Kou found himself taking he was sure they would be a welcome reminder of how far he and Mitsuba had come.
And so the two of them left the photography club in high spirits.

“Pass”
Mitsuba let out a long suffering sigh of disappointment from his position leaning against Kou’s shoulder.
Kou frowned as he surveyed the patch of grass that had earned Mitsuba’s ire, “it’s a perfectly good landscape for a photo, you're just jealous I found it and not you.”
Mitsuba shook his head fervently, “it’s ugly, over crowded by rocks and such, and half the grass is dead.”
Kou let out a grown, the two of them had been at this for nearly an hour and so far they had only taken three pictures.
He knew from experience Mitsuba could be particular but knowing and experiencing were two different things and he hadn’t exactly been looking to go through this whole process all over again.
“All right fine, what would you recommend then”
Mitsuba smirked at him in a way that ment either Kou would spend the next hour of his life being yelled at by Mitsuba as the boy tried to get the perfect shot out of him or Mitsuba’s next suggestion would require quite a bit of parkour on Kou’s part.

Kou had unfortunately been right in two regards.
Mitsuba had practically dragged Kou to one of the trees on the edge of the property before nodding to its highest branches.
“You’ll get a good shot of the school from there.”
In Kou’s humble opinion Mitsuba sounded way to proud of himself considering he wasn’t the one at risk of falling out of a tree six times his hight. Technically he knew there was no way Mitsuba would put him in a situation where that was at risk of happening but still, at a certain point logic left and human instinct took over.
Mitsuba let out a groan of disbelief at Kou’s hesitance, “look,” he pointed toward the middle tree with a bit more annoyance than Kou thought the situation needed, “that one has a ladder attached.”
Kou blinked in surprise, “how did you know about it?”. It was rare for the school to let students modify the trees on school grounds and even rarer for Mitsuba to know about those kind of things.
“Ugh, don’t look so dumbfounded, I’m the one who built it.”
Kou had to do a double take at that, Mitsuba doing manual labor without being told? A likely story.
Mitsuba shot the other boy an annoyed glare that could scare off even their teachers, “I’ve told you before Kou, photography is important to me.”
Kou supposed after that there wasn’t really anything he could do but climb the rickety ladder. Honestly he was surprised Mitsuba hadn’t died trying to get a near impossible photo.

The view was gorgeous, the whole school was in view of the camera. In fact Kou was pretty sure he saw his brother and Akane talking in the courtyard.
He hated to admit it but Mitsuba had been right. This was absolutely worth the risk.
