“I really don’t know how much worse he can make this,” you mused to yourself, looking back down at your phone to check the time like it’d be any different. He was already late by something like half an hour, and although you knew that he was on his way, you had half a mind to just take off and head back home. The Japanese Februaries were cold and you weren’t having a good time shivering at the agreed meeting place. Another glance down; he was now fourty minutes late. Maybe you could call or text him again? But he was probably sleeping in and it’d make no difference, anyways. Your sigh materialized in a bitter cloud. That’s what you get for dating a scatterbrain like Denki Kaminari.
“[Name]!”
He called out from a faraway distance and you almost didn’t hear him at all. He was running, his hair more haphazard than usual, and his mismatched outfit positively screamed I was late. His arms were outstretched for a preemptive embrace, but you were having none of that. The yelp as he ran into your fist was almost enough to justify his tardiness.
“You’re so late! Explain yourself!” you demanded. Although you were over-the-moon to see him, you weren’t going to reward him for this kind of behaviour.
“I, uh, slept through my alarm. I was going to bring you flowers and chocolate, but I uh… forgot.”
“Great. Just fantastic,” you muttered, unable to stop yourself from rolling your eyes. A bit of that happiness died away with your sarcastic drawl. “You’re such a fantastic boyfriend.”
“Hey! It’s okay, because I didn’t forget this.”
You looked back to him, your curiosity piqued. A gift to make up for your wasted time? Instead, you were met with his lips, a static shock sparkling from him as he wrapped his arms around you in your surprise.
“My love. Duh! Sorry, [Name]. Won’t happen again.”
“You know full well it will!” you spluttered, but really, you just didn’t have a defence mechanism in place for that random act of affection. He laughed at you as you waved him off, trying to pass the pink flush on your cheeks for cold.
So yeah, it was a rocky start. But the rest of your Valentine’s day was pretty electrifying, and even though Denki was a bit dull in the head, you loved him back.
