Chapter Text
“A family?” Yoongi inquired. He was unsure about the idea, but he wanted to hear Hoseok out before anything was put in stone.
“Yeah, wouldn’t that be wonderful? We can get married like Jin and Joon are, and be a loving home for sweet children who need one! That right there is my dream, Yoongi.”
“Namjoon’s getting married?” Yoongi asked, surprise written on his face. Why didn’t his past roommate tell him this, and when did Hoseok find out?
“Yeah, he posted it on his Twitter almost a week ago.”
“Oh, wow. I guess I gotta log into Twitter more often, then. I’m a little surprised Namjoon wouldn’t just tell me about this in person, though.”
Hoseok nodded as he admired his boyfriend laying beside him. He studied his pondering face that seemed to be deep in thought. What was going on in that fascinating mind of his?
“What’re you thinking about, Yoongi?”
“I’m imagining us as parents. It’s just an interesting thing to think about, y’know? Do you think I’d be a good dad?”
“No, you won’t be.”
“Huh?”
“You’ll be a great dad.”
Hoseok was doing some research on adoption in the studio. It looked like Yoongi was logging onto Twitter as Hoseok was reading articles on what to expect and all that stuff. As he scrolled around, he had found the website to a nearby adoption agency. Hoseok clicked on the link, but he didn’t realize that the volume on his computer was all the way up until a video started playing that loudly asked: “Are you looking into adoption, but don’t know where to start? Well, you’ve come to the right place!”
Yoongi turned around quickly as he gave Hoseok a look. “Back at it again with the whole adoption thing, huh?”
Hoseok kept his eyes on the floor as he slowly nodded. “Yeah, this is really something I’ve always wanted to do, Yoongi.” He admitted and pleaded. “Can you please come and at least check some things out with me? Pretty please?”
Yoongi was deep in thought for a moment and then hummed approvingly, watching as Hoseok lit up with pure joy.
Namjoon and Jin were constantly busy with planning for their wedding. It’s been a hot minute since Namjoon and Yoongi went out for coffee together, and the couple didn’t come over to Yoongi and Hoseok’s place as often as they used to. They had more free time. Most of that time was spent in the studio, but Hobi figured that he could use this opportunity to drag Yoongi outside with him for his adoption journey.
So that’s what he did.
They were in a large room with a whole bunch of children who needed homes. They had a section for infants, a play area for the toddlers and younger children, and space for the older kids to sit in groups and chat with one another. Through crowds of kids, Yoongi spotted a child who was probably around twelve years old, and he was sitting all by himself. Yoongi made his way toward him, and so did Hoseok. The boy looked nervous as the couple approached him, so Hoseok tried to flash him a warm and comforting smile.
“What’s your name, buddy?” Hoseok asked him.
“J-Jimin.” He replied shyly.
“Jimin? I’ve always loved that name!” Hoseok stated with excitement. “Well I’m Hoseok, and this here is Yoongi.” The couple introduced themselves to the boy.
“It’s nice to meet you, Jimin.” Yoongi said, holding his hand out to the child.
“You t-too.” Jimin spoke softly as he carefully accepted Yoongi’s hand to shake.
“So, how old are you?” Hoseok questioned.
“I’m twelve.” Jimin answered. “I’m turning thirteen soon, though.”
“Oh, the sweet thirteen!” Hoseok smiled brightly. “When’s your birthday?”
“Well, we don’t actually know my official birth date, but we do know that it was at some point in the fall.” Jimin explained. “So we decided to make it the thirteenth of October.”
“Ah.” Hoseok nodded in understanding. “So that’s coming up soon. Happy early birthday!” The couple gave birthday wishes to the boy, and Jimin quietly thanked them with sincerity. He was extremely grateful for such a kind couple to come over and have a conversation with him like this.
“What do you like to do for fun, Jimin?” Yoongi asked.
“I love to dance.” He told the couple. “There’s a small dance studio I get to use, which is what I always look forward to every day here. I also like to sing, but I’m no good at it.”
“I’m sure that you have a beautiful voice, Jimin.” Yoongi told the preteen, who sighed and shrugged.
“Yeah, I don’t know about that. You haven’t even heard me sing before.”
“You’re way too hard on yourself, aren’t you?” Yoongi said to the younger. “I can tell that you have an amazing voice, even if you don’t believe it. I’d love to hear you sing, and I’d love to take you to our music studio.”
“Really?” Jimin looked shocked.
“Yeah, of course.” Yoongi confirmed.
The three of them chatted about all sorts of things so that the couple can get to really know Jimin, and Yoongi was feeling a strong connection to this kid. He deserved the most loving home ever, and Yoongi wanted him and Hoseok to be that home. They were just hoping that Jimin wanted that too. Yoongi spoke to the boy about this with honesty. “Jimin, I know it’s a long and hard process, but if we were able to adopt you, would you be interested?”
“Oh man, would I? That’d be a dream come true for me!” Jimin responded. “Y’know, I see a lot of kids come and go here, and it gets really disheartening after a while. A lot off people skim over me, and I couldn’t believe that you guys actually wanted to come over here and talk to me. It all feels kind of fake, like... are you actually considering adopting me?”
“We are.” Yoongi spoke. “Right, Hoseok?”
“Right. We’d absolutely love to adopt you, Jimin.”
“And we will. Unless you don’t want us to, we are going to find a way.” Yoongi said. “Alright?”
“Alright.”
“We have to adopt Jimin.” Yoongi told Hoseok that night. “It just has to be done. He’s meant to be our son.”
“Is he?” Hoseok questioned.
“Is he not?” Yoongi questioned right back.
“He is, he is.” Hoseok smiled. “I’m just a little surprised over how eager you’ve gotten about this all of a sudden.
“Well, I just have this vibe. He’s meant for our family, just trust me on this.”
“I trust you, Yoongi. I trust you.”
They adopted Jimin.
