Chapter Text
4 days later at the station, Jane’s phone rings.
‘Casey,’
‘I just wanted to thank you,’
‘Thank me?’ asks Jane
‘Yea, I decided to take your advice,’
‘You’re staying then?’
‘Yea,’ replies Casey
‘That’s great news,’
Silence on the other end.
'I mean it,'
Maura walks in 2 minutes later with 2 coffee’s and Jane ends the call.
‘Who was that?’
‘Casey,’ replies Jane
She hands her one coffee taking a seat opposite.
‘He decided to stay, right,’
Jane nods a reply.
‘I bet you didn’t expect this outcome,’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Well, you told me to talk to him because you were trying to help,’
‘Jane you have exes in the city, if I was thinking about getting rid of all of them, I’d be exhausted,’
‘Wow,’
‘I…I didn't mean it like that,'
Jane mouths ‘I know’ smiling,
A few hours later Jane and Maura arrive back home. Jane’s phone indicates a text. Jane takes out her phone and reads it.
'Who's that?'
'Frost,'
She picks up Janes's phone reading the text.
‘Casey will probably be there, too,’
Jane shrugs.
‘You should go,’
Jane shakes her head.
'Why not,'
'Because you don't want me to.'
'When did I say that,'
'Maura, you don't have to pretend with me, I know you,'
'Ok but, I don't want you to have to pretend too,'
Jane takes a seat.
'Ok, let's talk about,'
'Talk about what,'
'Maura I don't want you to ever hide your feeling...tell me...I broke your heart,'
She nods as a tear drops from her eyes.
'I still feel heartbroken, but I feel guilty for feeling that because you didn't know,'
'What can I do?'
'I don't think there's anything...'
'You can say anything to me,'
'I don't...you have to understand I know you will never cheat on me, I'm never worried about you,'
'Maura you don't have to explain yourself to me, I was all set to get married a month ago,'
'I don't want you to see him...for now at least,'
'Done,'
'Really?'
'Really...Maura do you remember the first time we met,'
'Of course.'
'I mean the first, first time,'
'Oh God don't remind me,'
'I remember it second by second...and that's the difference,'
Maura's eyebrow raises in confusion.
'I never stopped loving you,'
Her mouth curls into an 'aww,'
‘I was just scared...here’s this guy who loves me and wants to marry me, and I know I talk the talk but…I didn’t want to end up alone, for all, I knew there was no chance for us,'
'I can relate to that,'
Jane smiles taking her hands.
'We're a pair arent we,'
Maura smiles a response.
‘I love you,’
‘I love you, too,’ replies Jane
