Chapter Text
The rushing water of the sink and the clattering of the dishes spiked Yoongi’s nerves. Taehyung had left after stating what Y/N would do. Stating that she would be involved in a rather dangerous mission. Infiltrating the SM party, where all the gangs under the SM alliance meet. All of the gangs. Including, maybe, possibly, the ones who killed Yoongi.
Yoongi lets out a shaky breath, sprinkles of his anger coming out with it. Not enough to sedate his nerves, though. Running his fingers along the unfolded bed, feeling the cheap couch material under his fingers, he recalled the conversation. He felt a fire in his heart light, and he grasped the sheets, hoping they would disintegrate in his fists. How could Namjoon think that it was a smart idea to send an innocent bystander, one who was already offering her home for Yoongi, mind you, to go on a mission that could potentially lead to her death?
Taking another moment, Yoongi attempts to cool himself down with rational thought. It would be different if it was just Taehyung, because he did this for a living and already had a personality built up with these people. Taehyung already had a persona built up and that persona had no ties to Bangtan. The only persona that had ties to Bangtan was V, and none of the members below the seven of them knew Taehyung or had even seen him. Most only knew his name.
Y/N, on the other hand, was just a struggling med student. She worked three jobs, barely spoke to anyone, and had neverending kindness. She pulled all-nighters, she cried at songs on the radio, she always listened with a smile. She would be put in so much danger if she even let slip that she had anything to do with Bangtan. Letting go of the couch, Yoongi realizes that he really doesn’t want that for her
Yoongi ran a hand through his hair, letting out a long ass breath. The sink turned off, and he glanced over to see Y/N done with the dishes. She looked lost in her own mind, almost shut off to the whole world.
Her lips opened with a slight hesitancy, then she spoke up.
“Yoongi, I think I’ll do it.” Her voice was small, and contemplative.
“Absolutely-fucking-not.” Yoongi’s voice came out sharper than he meant to, and Y/N looked startled. Something nudged him at the back of his mind, and he realized that he felt guilt. She regained her composure rather quickly and retorted.
“Why not?” Her tone wasn’t very stable, and Yoongi recognized that.
At the time, Yoongi was too blind to realize this would lead to a rather intense argument, but reflecting on it, he really wishes he did calm himself before delving into this conversation. He wishes he listened to the guilt. But he didn’t. He exploded.
“Are you so stupid to not realize how bad of an idea this is?” Yoongi shuffles to the edge of the couch, and Y/N clutches her fists, her shoulders curling upwards. He watches her defenses go up as soon as he insults her. For some reason, that just enrages him more.
“Don’t call me stupid. I know that this idea isn’t exactly solid, but I also know I’m needed for this.” She cuts Yoongi off before he can continue his point, and steps towards the couch. Everytime she spoke, everytime she moved, he felt more and more angry that she wasn’t listening.
“You aren’t needed for this at all. You gave the description of my killers.” he pulls himself off of the couch, making Y/N steps back when he stands tall. The fear in her eyes is evident but his pure anger refuses to let him stop. He hates it. He hates when he gets like this. “You gave me a place to hide. You don’t need to do anything else.” His tone is harsh. She lets out a shaky breath.
“Min Yoongi, calm down.” Her voice low and trying to defuse Yoongi. She couldn’t even look him in the eyes when she asked. And Yoongi should’ve. He really, really should’ve taken this chance to calm himself.
But he didn’t.
“I’m perfectly calm. You need to understand that this industry is fucking dangerous. You are seriously putting your life on the line trying to go to this party. Taehyung is trained to do this kind of thing-- you aren’t. ” Yoongi’s never been able to yell. Never ever. Not even here. His tone is harsh, but speaking level.
He’s not frustrated at her either, he had no reason to be frustrated at her. He feels frustration at the situation, and hates how uncontrollable his anger is.
“You are not calm. And I perfectly understand how fucking dangerous this shit is-- I literally watched you getting murdered. I brought you back to fucking life from near death, from bleeding out! Don’t fucking speak to me like-- like I’m some child. I deserve respect, Min Yoongi.” Her breaths were staggered and her eyes red with tears. He didn’t know at what point she began crying, but she did.
Yoongi felt himself drain. Drain emotionally. All of it, gone. Rage, anger, frustration.
All that was left was sadness.
“Y/N-- I--” Weak. His voice was weak.
All he could do is watch as the waterfall of tears she held back emerged and Yoongi felt his heart break. He steps towards her carefully, wanting to go comfort her, and apologize, but she steps back. She steps back and scoops her phone off the counter, the tears still flowing. She doesn’t bother to stop them, and Yoongi faces all of his emotions as her tears fall.
“I’m sorry. I can’t be here.” She chokes out, and moves practically sprints towards the door. She’s clutching her phone like its her lifeline and Yoongi knows if he moves it’ll all get worse.
So he watches her run.
The door is slammed behind her, and he’s left with just himself.
His own breaths are deafening.
“Yah, JK, I am not making you two meals today, you can make your own damn dinner.” Seokjin clasped the phone between his ear and his shoulder as he carried his groceries towards the hideout.
“But hyung--” Jungkook whined through the phone.
“I bought you ramen, so you can eat that. I’ll see you in a few minutes, I’m right around the corner.” Seokjin adjusted his bags a bit pausing so he could hang up the phone.
“Okay, hyung, I’ll see you at home.” Jungkook hung up the phone, and Seokjin found himself slipping his phone into his front pocket with a sigh. After a long day of being an actual doctor, he had to go buy groceries and then go be a doctor for Bangtan. Jeez, they really owed him one. More than one, really.
Though, he guessed it was a nice evening. The wind ran through his hair gently ruffling it, and prickled against his skin. It wasn’t cold prickles, it was perfect prickles. The sun was about to set, the sky was still blue but he could see the dimming of the sky. And what was best, was the sidewalks weren’t filled with people walking like they usually were. Only a select few people wandered the streets, chattering and minding their own business.
Seokjin believed it was a perfect evening.
Well, that was until a crying girl rammed into him. Luckily, Jin was pretty perfect, and he didn’t fall over because of his fantastic balancing skills. Though, the girl bounced back pretty far, and right on her ass.
Ouch.
“Oh christ, are you okay?” Jin found himself asking almost instantly after she landed. He moved into a crouch near her, setting his bags down. Her hands covered her face as she tried to wipe the tears, and she was sniffling and making ungodly noises.
But for some reason, those ungodly noises were familiar to Jin.
“I’m so sorry-- ” She brought down her hands to look him in the eye and then, suddenly, it clicked.
“Y/N?” His voice goes gentle at the sight of well, he guesses she’s his friend, and he sees more tears form in her eyes. “Why are you crying?” His voice is calm and gentle. Like he was talking to child, or an angry Jungkook. She shakes her head.
“It’s… it’s nothing important.” She blinks back the tears and sniffles, her face red and blotchy and her eyes swollen.
“Well, obviously not, if you’re running down the streets crying.” He stands up and dusts himself off. “Well, c’mon, I’m not gonna let you run the streets hysterical.” His hand is outstretched to her, which she takes it quietly. He pulls her to her feet, before grabbing his grocery bags.
“Thank you. And I’m sorry. For running into you.” She murmurs, her head down, making Jin smile..
“Don’t worry. Just be glad it was someone you knew-- these parts are dangerous, you know.” He reassures, and she tenses up at his words. He doesn’t say anything about her change in demeanor, despite his growing curiosity. Maybe it’s something to do with Yoongi?
“I know.” She murmurs, clutching her phone tightly. He studies her for a minute, taking in her features, before trying to break the ice.
“Well, you live around here, yeah? Let’s get you home--” He starts, making her head shoot up, eyes wide. Her shoulders are tense, and Jin knows he struck a chord.
“No!” Rather abruptly, the words come out of her mouth. Jin frowns, and Y/N shuffles her hands around her phone, turning the phone in her hands quickly. “I… I don’t want to let Yoongi see me like this.” Her voice is barely audible, but Jin still hears it.
“...Alright. You can come with me. I’m just heading to our hideout.” Jin shifts, and she nods. The two of them start walking side by side, neither really saying anything.
They get about five minutes before Jin can’t help but open his big mouth.
“So what did you and Yoongi fight about?” He questions, and Y/N tenses up again. She goes to open her mouth-- probably to deny it, Jin knows how it is-- before he interjects again. “Trust me, I’m a doctor. It’s better to get these things off the mind.”
“Please, I’m a med student. And I’m sure you aren’t even that type of doctor.” She smiles slightly, and he puts his pointer finger to his lips.
“Shh. I’m a doctor.” He winks at her jokingly, hoping to cheer her up, and she lets out a laugh.
“It’s just… a long story.” She mumbles, wringing her hands together. Her eyes can’t look upwards and are forced along the pavement. Jin’s lips spread into a small, yet reassuring smile.
“Well, I’ve got time.” He says, and she gives him a small smile in response.
Taking a deep sigh, she opens her mouth and begins to explain. She explains Taehyung showing up, she explains their reunion, she explains everything on the way to the hideout. The words spill off of her tongue with ease and a bouquet of emotions. Her frustration shines through her words, her sadness, her bitterness, her reluctant-ness-- they’re all shining in her speech in various colours.
Jin realized that she was just… so blatant. So obvious. So kind. She’s open with people, and suddenly, Jin realizes why this girl saved someone from death without question.
Unlocking the door, Y/N finishes up the whole story. She lets out a sigh, puffing her cheeks out.
“I get where Yoongi’s coming from… I really do. It’s just. I want to do this for him. I don’t-- well, okay, my own safety doesn’t really concern me, I guess. Doing this whole… party thing.” Jin cracks the door open and walks in, Y/N following behind. “I think it’s safe enough for me to handle, at least.” She says finally as she closes the door behind Jin, who’s kicking his shoes off.
His socked-feet patter into the main room, walking towards the kitchen. Y/N follows behind, her own shoes being taken off in quick succession.
“Well, Yoongi’s like that. He’s really, really caring. Especially about those who have shown him kindness before.” Jin unpacks the groceries, and he watches as the girl does so as well. He notices how she helps without being asked, or without really thinking much about it. She was quite the curious girl.
“Hyung?” A familiar voice murmurs right before Jin can continue his comment. Jungkook stumbles in from a bedroom, his hair wild and crazy and his eyes not even open. “Did you bring food? Me and Tae are hungry…”
“Ah, Tae’s already here too?” Jin mumbles to himself, and Jungkook rubs his eyes a bit as Tae walks out of the room Jungkook just left, looking completely not tired. Taehyung let’s a grin spread across his face when he sees Jin. When his eyes flicker over to Y/N, it falls away quickly. Taehyung must’ve picked up on something being wrong if Y/N was here.
“Yeah, I am. Jin-hyung! It’s been awhile.” Taehyung rumbles out, and Jin gives him a smile.
“Sure has. Blonde looks good on you. So does that mullet. I think you are the only person I know who could pull off a mullet properly.” Jin responds, and Tae shrugs.
Jungkook mumbles something about whether or not mullets were ever truly meant to be ‘pulled off properly’, before finally waking up.
“Thanks, hyung. It's good to see you still alive, Y/N. I left you in kind of a tense situation, huh?” Taehyung jokes, sitting down on the couch in the living room beside the kitchen.
“Wait-- Y/N?” Jungkook questions, and they all ignore him.
“Tense is quite the understatement.” Y/N cringes at the fresh memories of the fight, still feeling the prickling pain of old tears in her eyes.
“ Anyway as I was saying before the maknae’s interrupted us,” Jin crumpled up the plastic grocery bags as he spoke, and set them on the counter away from the food. “Yoongi is kind and caring to those who show the same to him. Though, he doesn’t get mad very often-- and he can’t properly get mad.”
“Wait, why is Yoongi-hyung mad?” Jungkook asks, getting ignored yet again.
“Jin-hyung is right. Yoongi, in all of the years I’ve known him, has never been able to yell at anyone, or raise his hand towards someone he loves.” Taehyung explains. Y/N leans against the counter as Jin begins cooking dinner for them all.
“Yoongi… I don’t think Yoongi would ever do that to someone. I think I was just… scared. In the moment.” Y/N explains, still deep in thought as she speaks. Her face suddenly pales, and she tenses up. “Oh god he’s probably super worried. ” She frets.
“Hey, it’s all cool. I’ll text him and tell him that you’re with us.” Jungkook says, fishing out his phone. Taehyung hums as the maknae taps his fingers swiftly across the old touch screen.
“I don’t think you should go back to him tonight, Y/N. I think we need to talk about that supposed mission Namjoon decided to send you on, too. With all three of you here.” Jin opens up cupboards and pulls pans out, thinking about making some sort of pasta tonight.
Jungkook perks up at the mention of Namjoon. “Wait, Namjoon is coming?” The maknae’s voice masks the thumping of feet against the ground, and no one notices another presence until a new voice breaks the brief silence.
“Yes, he is.” The leader says, a dimpled smile on his face. “Hey, guys, it’s nice to see you. Kookie, Jin-hyung. And of course, this is my second time seeing Taehyungie today.” Namjoon spoke confidently, and his voice demanded people to listen. Jin’s eyes flicker towards Y/N, watching as Namjoon’s gaze turn to the girl.
“And it’s nice to finally meet you face to face, Y/N.”
