Chapter Text
"Why don't you do that for me?" You gestured over to a couple, one of them was holding the door for the other, smiling and motioning for them to go first.
"Do what?" Gyro looked up from his sandwich, sparing a confused glance at the pair who'd just sat down at a table adjacent to the bar, where you two currently sat.
"You know, hold the door open and stuff. Be all chivalrous."
He gave an offended huff. "I'm chivalrous. I do plenty of gentlemanly stuff for you, amore. Besides, you can open your own doors.”
Rolling your eyes, you took another sip of your drink. “That isn’t the point, Gyro.” He thought for a moment before shrugging and returning to his food.
The rest of your meal went smoothly, you both talked and listened to the band playing that night. Gyro’s nights off weren’t too often and the few times he was free he liked to take it easy, go with you to a nice joint and have a meal before walking back home and winding down. While it was a bit monotonous there was something comforting in that, a welcome change from his unpredictable duties.
So, bill paid and food done, you both stood to walk out. Surprisingly, he actually held the door for you this time; a certain playful spark twinkling in his eyes.
“Oh come on,” you smirked, “you’re only doing that because I brought it up. You gotta be more sincere about it, babe.”
“That was sincere!” He balked, stepping out alongside you with a huffy pout. Though it quickly turned a soft smile as you rested your head on his shoulder, starting the walk back to his house. Italy’s streets were growing dim and most people were in for the night so it was peaceful.
Gyro was uncharacteristically quiet. Usually he talked more when walking, as it helped him organize his thoughts, but now he wasn’t saying anything. Glancing up, you noted that he seemed to be thinking, lips pursed and eyes sharp. Though when your eyes met that faded back into that soft familiar warmth, twinged with his usual eccentric spirit. Brushing it off, you simply enjoyed the silence and moon as clouds drifted across the sky.
Then something cold hit your face. Reaching up to feel your cheek, more drops fell and the sky collapsed in a sudden onslaught of rain. The calm atmosphere was ruined as you groaned in annoyance, keenly aware that there was still a fair bit to go before you’d be out of the storm. Your boyfriend, however, had snapped completely out of his thoughtful trance and seemed delighted with this, as if this rain had made his day.
"Shit," You hissed as the rain pelted down, beginning to soak your clothes. Just as you moved to put your hands over your head, the rain stopped. Looking up in confusion, you saw Gyro holding a part of his cape over your head to shield you from the downpour. Meeting your gaze he flashed his signature cocky grin and winked.
"Don't mind me," he chuckled, "just trying to look chivalrous."
