Chapter Text
Jimin feels a bit uncomfortable. He takes a look around the fancy restaurant he finds himself in and he can’t help but to be surprised (to say the least) with Jungkook’s choice. When Jungkook had asked him if he was hungry, Jimin thought he meant McDonald’s or some other fast food chain store. A three stars looking place definitely hasn’t crossed his mind. He doesn’t say anything, though.
“Just order anything you’d like.” younger boy says.
And so Jimin tries to relax. He reaches for the menu laying on the table and scans his options. His eyes however immediately widen. These prices certainly aren’t targeted at broke students, that’s for sure.
“Sweetie?” he whispers trying to be discreet “Are you sure we can afford this place?”
Something doesn’t seem right. Only a few days ago his boyfriend was complaining about being short on cash and being unable to buy some new game that was apparently just about to be released. And now he’s offering to pay a few hundreds for a dinner?
“Don’t worry, it’s okay.” he convinces Jimin and the latter raises one brow.
“Where did you get the money?” he insists, but his boyfriend’s eyes don’t leave the menu card “And why do you want to spend so much on food?”
Silence.
“Jungkook.”
The boy flinches as the tone of Jimin’s voice becomes harsh and demanding. He instinctively hides his neck in his shoulders like a small child. Fuck, is he disappointing Jimin again?
“Kook? Baby, what’s wrong?” Jimin looks bewildered with brunet’s reaction “I’m sorry-”
“No, it’s fine.” he shakes his head “Let’s just eat, please.”
The older doesn’t know what else to say, so he simply nods. Jungkook sees however that he remains uneasy and awkward. And honestly this is so not how he imagined this date to go. God, he’s such a failure. He just wonders why Jimin has took so long to finally realize it.
“Just trust me.” he says “It’s been a while since we’ve been on a date. Let me treat you.”
Jimin’s features soften and a small smile blooms on his face. He mouths an ‘okay’ and turns his attention back to the menu. Jungkook exhales and watches the other’s black thick eyelashes contrast with the milky tone of his puffy cheeks. He’s just so beautiful.
When the waitress approaches their table and asks them what they would like to eat Jungkook notices that his boyfriend chose the cheapest dish in the card. He wants to show off a bit, though. Maybe he doesn’t necessarily want to splash out on food, but he surely does want to let Jimin know that he doesn’t mind spending all of his money on him. So he waves Jimin off like a really cool dude he thinks he is and orders two servings of expensive meat instead. Jimin wants to protest, but he swallows the words down and smiles instead. The girl nods her head writing everything down in her note pad and soon disappears from their sight. The silence doesn’t last too long as the older is the first to speak.
“You look really nice today.” Jimin cups his own face and props his elbows on the edge of the table.
“Don’t I always?” Jungkook mirrors his pose.
“Yeah, you do, but tonight I can actually see your efforts. What’s the occasion anyway?”
Jungkook opens his mouth to speak, but Jimin’s eyes suddenly widen comically as some realization hits him.
“Oh my God. Is it some anniversary?” he tries to remember “Oh my God, it is, isn’t it? Shit, I’m sorry. You know I have a terrible memory when it comes to dates-”
Jungkook chuckles softly and shakes his head.
“It’s only a date. I just wanted to look good for you.” he assures.
“Oh, honey, I love you even in your sweats on.”
‘Do you really?’, Jungkook thinks. He just smiles, though and changes the subject. He’s not ready yet to actually hear those words from Jimin’s mouth. But will he be ever, honestly.
“How was work today?”
Jimin tells him about that one client that spilled his coffee all over himself and both of them laugh out loud not caring about the elegant surroundings. They continue their small talk until the food finally appears on the table. They stare at the dishes in amazement and take some Instagram worthy pictures, because yes, they’re that couple.
“This is so good.” Jimin moans savoring the taste of the meat and Jungkook smiles satisfied. It finally seems like a successful date and they look like they’re happy together. And Jungkook really is. He just hopes he’s not the only one.
“Okay, what is going on?” Jimin addresses the elephant in the room as soon as the door to their shared apartment closes behind them.
Jimin wants to say something more, but Jungkook is faster. He grabs the older’s hand and squeezes it hard like his life depends on it. The latter only knits his brows, he has no idea what has gotten into his boyfriend.
“Wait here.” Jungkook says “I’ll go run a bathe for us. Really bubbly, just how you like! Then we’ll talk.”
But Jimin is done.
“We’re talking right now, Jeon Jungkook.”
Jungkook bits his lip. Jimin is using his whole name, that’s not good. But hey, what’s new?
Jimin doesn’t miss the fact that the other looks like a deer caught in headlights for a second. He also notices how terrified he appears to be.
“What did you do?” he narrows his eyes suspiciously.
“What?”
“What’s wrong, Jungkook?”
“Nothi-”
“Oh, cut the crap, would you? Something is obviously not right.” he snaps, but he immediately regrets it as he sees the younger tearing up. What the actual fuck? Jungkook never cries. The last time he did was… See? Jimin doesn’t remember, because Jeon Jungkook does not cry.
Jungkook sniffles as the tears roll down his cheeks. He wants to speak, but his lips start to quiver and he feels unable of making out any coherent sounds.
“Baby, what happened?” Jimin instantly jumps to Jungkook trapping him in his warm embrace. Brunet’s body shakes with sobs as he holds on to Jimin refusing to ever let go “Talk to me, Jungkook. I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s going on! What happened?”
“I know-” he hiccups “I know you want to break up with me. Please, don’t do that.”
Jimin freezes.
“You don’t love me anymore.” Jungkook cries hugging smaller body even tighter “But please don’t leave me. I can’t live without you, Jimin. Please, don’t do that to me.”
Jimin feels his heart breaking into small pieces as his boyfriend clings on to him for dear life and cries his eyes out miserably. His mind is a mess. He can’t wrap his head around Jungkook’s words. Where is this all coming from? He strokes taller’s hair absent-mindedly and then it hits him.
“Kookie? Did you by any chance hear me this morning in the bathroom?”
Jungkook hides his face in Jimin’s neck at the memory and nods his head furiously.
“I h-heard.”
Jimin curses inside his mind. He’s so stupid. What was he thinking? Of course Jungkook would hear.
“Baby, it’s not like that.” he strokes Jungkook’s back drawing circles with an open palm on it “I was just practicing a scene. My agent got me an audition for that soap opera that we sometimes watch and I didn’t tell you, because I wanted to surprise you if I got the part. Baby, I’m so sorry.” he leaves quick pecks on younger’s scalp trying to comfort him “I was only practicing. I love you, I would never break up with you. Kookie, baby. Please, don’t cry.”
Jungkook sniffs and pulls away from the warm body to look at Jimin’s face. He’s searching for sincerity in his eyes.
“I love you.” Jimin repeats smiling softly.
And the sudden wave of embarrassment that gets to Jungkook is big enough to overwhelm him.
He feels like a total idiot, to say the least. If Jimin didn’t want to break up with him before, he probably will want to now.
Why is he so dense? Why can’t he solve his problems by talking them out like a normal human being? Why does he have to jump to conclusions?
“Really? You mean it?” he just wants to be sure.
Jimin nods fondly and Jungkook hides his face in his neck again. The level of embarrassment makes him want to run. But at the same time he just wants to keep his hands on his baby, needs to feel him close after all the negativity he has been suffering from the whole day.
“Is that why you dressed up and left a shit ton of money in that restaurant?”
“I wanted to be good for you, so you wouldn’t break up with me.” he pouts.
“But you’re perfect for me just the way you are, I promise. You don’t have to prove yourself to me, okay?”
Jungkook nods breathing in the sweet smell of Jimin’s perfume.
“And please, just talk to me if there is something bothering you. Communication is key.”
“I will.” Jungkook answers quietly, embarrassment creeping in once again.
Jimin takes his hand and leads the way to their bedroom. He gives up his position of being a small spoon to Jungkook just for the night as his body adheres to younger’s back. He nuzzles against the dark hair smelling the shampoo they share. He hates seeing his boyfriend sad, but at the same time he loves it when he’s vulnerable. He likes taking care of him and giving him all the love that he deserves.
“I think I realized something today.” Jungkook speaks up, his voice a little hoarse.
“Hm?”
“I may have gotten too comfortable in this relationship.”
Jimin knits his eyebrows.
“What do you mean?”
“Do you remember that time in high school when we got together?” he waits for Jimin to say that he does and then continues “I used to take you out all the time and do all that romantic shit.” Jimin chuckles, because those where truly the good times “I don’t do that anymore. I stopped cherishing you the way I should.”
“That’s not true, Kookie. You say that like you’re obligated to be the man in this relationship. But the truth is we’re both men here. If anything the fault would be on both sides. I know, those first months were very beautiful. But it doesn’t mean that what we have now is not. That was the honeymoon phase and now it’s a real relationship. A partnership. We grow, we’re not kids anymore. And this connection that we have between us, it also develops.”
Jungkook is quiet for a moment as he tries to process Jimin’s words. What if he’s right? They live together, they go to sleep and wake up by each other’s side. They eat together, they spend their free time together (doing different things, but still in each other’s company) and sometimes they even shower together. Their sex life isn’t as lush as it once was, but they still make love a few times a week and he enjoys every single intercourse. He loves being close to Jimin and just being able to touch him sends him to cloud nine.
Maybe he’s not too comfortable? Maybe that’s exactly what people call ‘domestic’?
“I guess, but you shouldn’t be so surprised the next time I give you flowers.” Jimin chuckles at that and Jungkook turns in the embrace to face the older “I love you a lot.” he says and presses his lips against Jimin’s for a few seconds.
“I love you, too.” Jimin answers when the younger leans back.
“So you’re saying there’s a possibility that you will appear on TV while we watch that shitty show?” Jungkook raises a brow teasingly trying to change the atmosphere.
“Heeey, it’s not shitty.” Jimin laughs and Jungkook gets lost in the sound. He’s happy he’s the reason behind it.
“It kinda is.”
