Chapter Text
Inko Midoriya kept fidgeting in the kitchen. She couldn't stop the negative thoughts that kept popping in her mind like “Heyy Inko it's already been 10 secs, here's a new thought for you to be anxious about” she sighed, touching her temple.
All this was giving her a serious headache. Though she put on a tough facade in front of her son, she was excessively troubled by the thought of him not remembering who he was. Not to mention the weird things he kept mentioning. What was that about Heroes, Villains, Quirk and All Might.
Although The doctor mentioned it was not unusual and every once in a while he meets patients like him who have active subconscious that lets them have lucid dreams, until they wake up. He explained that Midoriya might have been in a similar situation that made him delusional. The doctor suggested, it would be better if the patient himself realises all of that was his mind playing tricks on him. It would take a few days or weeks, but doctor assured he would eventually come out his delusions.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard a shriek coming from Midoriya’s room.
She could feel cold sweat form on her palm as she rushed towards his room. She knocked on his door and waited for about 10 seconds before she called out his name. The fear in her heart grew by every passing second. She knew Midoriya’s condition was in no way stable. Just recently when he couldn't cope with his situation and surroundings, he collapsed due to stress. His Doctor had warned, if he forces himself too much there's a chance he'll forget his origin. Just when she thought about barging in she heard a faint “coming” from his room.
She could hear him shuffling around the room and after like a minute, the door opened and his head popped out.
He smiled nervously and slowly closed the door behind him not meeting her eyes. “I didn't mean to um shriek like that” Midoriya said, covering his face. He was clearly embarrassed about the shriek he let out.
She breathed a sigh of relief and could feel her shoulders relaxing and heartbeat going back to normal. She was terrified that something had happened to him again. Midoriya’s heart ached with guilt. He could see how worried his mom was. She asked him if everything was alright. He just nodded.
In his room, he had put together a set of questions that he didn't know the answer to. His mom was the only person he could think of who could answer his questions. Midoriya sat down on sofa. As he looked around the house, his mind flooded with memories. Somehow his confusion of reality and delusion was subsiding. The answer was so close, that he could stretch his arms out and grasp it. But at the same time, he was scared to find out.
Inko then came into the living room carrying hot chocolate for both of them. She sat across Midoriya on the sofa. Midoriya took the cup of hot chocolate and the smell had immediately helped him calm his nerves.
He took a small sip, the warmth comforting him. His mom looked at him expectantly. She was willing to answer all his questions but she was also scared that it would trigger some stressful memories for him.
“So..” he started “Do you know which high school I want to go when I graduated?”
His mom looked taken aback from the question and just blinked for few seconds but then immediately her expression became remorseful.
“Izuku I'm so sorry” She apologized in soft voice “you.. always kept your dream a secret. I mean.. I knew you were working pretty hard to get into some highschool but you said you will tell me about it after you get into that school.. And so I patiently waited for you to tell me.. I'm so sorry.” with all that's going on, Inko was surprised that Midoriya wanted to know about his school first.
Midoriya was stunned to hear that. He would never hide anything from his mom! The only secret he kept from her was how he got his quirk from All Might. Urgh! Here he did it again. He felt like banging his head on the floor for getting his deluded visions again.
But if his mom didn't know what highschool he wanted to go, who would? His expression must not have been pleasant because Inko instantly apologized again.
“you were working really hard for your entrance exam, it was going to be held in 2 weeks but..” she refrained herself from saying that it’s too late.
Midoriya immediately brightened up. As long as there was time he would do something.
There was one thing that kept bothering him from the time he regained his consciousness.
He hesitated to ask his mom about it. He was not sure if he even wanted to know the answer. “So.. Uh like” he cleared his throat and continued “how did I fall from the building?” it was difficult to ask this. His mom, had maybe anticipated him to ask this question.
She took a deep breath glancing nervously at the hot chocolate. Midoriya realised that she was debating whether to him tell about this. He reached out his arm to squeeze her palm and gave a reassuring nod. At least he hoped it look reassuring because his hands were trembling.
Inko closed her eyes a deep breath, she held his hand and spoke carefully “It was an accident” she paused then shook her head. “we don't know for sure what happened that day. You fell from your school building but there were.. no witnesses as to what had happened, you were the only one who went to terrace that day.” When she finished, Midoriya tried to process in each word. He stared blankly at his mom.
The thing she didn't mention was he had tried to commit suicide. He was smart enough to understand that. It explained why she was so hesitant about the topic. Also due to lack of memory, she couldn't ask him the reason to do so. He frowned as he couldn't recall anything about it.
They spoke for some more about things he missed when he was unconscious, like his school graduation.
He was glad to know they would allow him to graduate if he passes in the exam that would be conducted soon.
He took his leave and went back to his room. As soon as he reached his room, his legs gave out and he sat on the floor. Suicide. I tried to suicide. That thought kept going around his head. He crawled his way towards the desk where he had been writing his previous notes. There was too much information to take in.
My name is Midoriya Izuku. He began to write from what I remember, I've always been bullied for being weak and not having a quirk. I had a dream to get into some high school , which I kept a secret even from my mom, but during the last year of my middle school I apparently attempted suicide by jumping of the roof for unknown reason.
The more he wrote, the more he felt like he was writing about someone else’s life and not his. The next page he wrote about what he remembered after he got up and compared the notes. He frowned, he knew one thing for sure, he wouldn't commit suicide. I had a dream to accomplish, I am not the type of person to give that up in middle. Or am I?
He kept the pen down and buried his head in his palms. “If what my instincts tell me is true, then-” he muttered, his face growing pale but he willed himself to take the pen and write one more sentence
I am Not the Izuku Midoriya from this world.
He started the piece of paper for a long time. The anxious feeling in his heart growing by every second.
That idea was way too absurd even for him. No wonder people called him deluded. He managed a slight laugh, dismissing the thought.
But what if it's true. He continued to write. Then what about the Midoriya of this world? Is he dead? He struck out the last sentence as soon as he wrote it.
He didn't want to think about such possibility. The only thing he knew for sure was he had to find out the truth and soon. Without depending on anyone.
He pondered for a long time about his, writing down alternate possibilities but none of them seemed real. If someone read his notes, it would look like a Sci-fi novel.
An hour or so later, he decided it's better to sleep. His thoughts were still running wild. After tossing and turning for a long time, his brain finally gave up and he fell asleep.
It was then that he got that weird dream. He was in a room or he thought it was a room because he couldn't see any walls. Everything was white the floor, the ceiling. He tried walking but he didn't know which direction to walk in. Every place looked same. Vast white land without any spec of dirt.
He heard a distressed voice calling out to him. He decided to follow the voice. The voice led to a person sitting on the white floor. He had his head buried in his knees.
Izuku stopped right where he was. He knew something wasn't right. He could recognize the green curls anywhere! He was so surprised that he was staring at his own self. He slowly tried to withdraw without “him” noticing but he couldn't move. It was as if legs were glued to the floor.
The boy slowly lifted his head, saw straight at Izuku. Midoriya staggered back in shock and fell on his arse. The other Midoriya sighed deeply, he kept his eyes on Izuku but he wasn't really seeing him.
//*(the other Midoriya will be called Midoriya 2)
He was paler and thinner than Izuku. He also had such dark circles under his eyes as though he hasn't slept in a long time. But there was fire in his eyes, like he was desperately clinging on to something. Izuku couldn't find his voice. He was sure that he was dreaming but it felt too real.
Midoriya(2) gave a slight smile “I can understand what's going through your mind.. After all, we're both Izuku” that said, it didn't help Izuku calm down. His suspicions were proving to be true but he didn't want to believe it.
He continued “I've been here, for I don't know how long. Time is difficult here. I'm sure you will understand that soon. So listen carefully, Midoriya Izuku” Izuku flinched at the emphasis on his name. It was weird seeing himself call his name, but he nodded and gestured to continue.
“what you suspect, is true. You shall find for yourself the truth and free us both from this curse.” He paused and pointed a finger at Izuku “You will find a clue in my notebooks, but beware, you will have to make a tough decision-” He didn't get to complete, as Izuku suddenly woke up as his mom woke him up to have breakfast. He groggily got up and saw the time, it read 10.45 AM.
He sat up straight, his eyes wide and heart beating rapidly as he recollected his dream. He felt as though he slept only for a minute. Ugh this suspense was killing him! He immediately wrote down his dream in the notebook, to not forget. Not that he would.
What you suspect, is true. He let out a light cry. If his brain didn't just make that up, then he didn't belong in this world! His world, his friends were all fighting a against a powerful villain and here he was! ‘They're strong, they'll hold out’ he thought trying to reassure himself, but first he needed to figure out “The truth” what could it be, and what was the clue Midoriya(2) mentioned.
He glanced around his room. “Izuku you up yet?!” he heard his mom shout. He replied that he'll come in 10 minutes. C’mon think! Where would I keep the notebook?! He looked around checking in his locker, under his clothes, every possible place.
Then the black notebook caught his eye. He opened it again but then his eyes widened in surprise . How come I didn't notice this before! The last pages were stuck together. He slowly separated the papers. At first he was confused with what he saw, then he immediately figured it out.
‘Lx CqdzL, TZ ghfg rbgnnk. Snfdsgdq vhsg jzbbgzm’
he would write few things in a code. One letter before the actual letter.
He quickly wrote down the code and gasped when he read it.
“My Dream, UA high-school! Together with Kacchan.”
There was a heart drawn next to the sentence, Midoriya(2) must have really wanted to go with Bakugou! Izuku felt a twinge of guilt. Izuku wasn't supposed to be in his place. He dismissed the thought immediately. He would find a way to bring him back!
‘So UA exits. This must be the clue, the answer can be found there may be.’
Bakugou katsuki, he wondered if all this might somehow be connected to him.
He heard his mom calling for him again, so quickly washed his face and went out.
He was hungry as hell and was shovelling down his breakfast. His mom looked better than she has been yesterday, the bags under her eyes had reduced, and she smiled happily. Midoriya was happy for her, Just then the doorbell rang and His mom went to receive the door.
Midoriya was so immersed in his thoughts that he didn't seem to notice the person standing right next to him, until he heard a quiet but familiar voice calling him ‘Shit head’ Midoriya stopped chewing and looked up to find Bakugou glaring at him.
He held his breath for the longest time. Kacchan looked really good in casual clothes, his hands were in his pocket, his chin was slightly raised and he had his signature ‘don't mess with me look’ he was leaning against the chair. Midoriya’s heart was pounding so loudly, he was scared Kacchan would hear it. He gave a slight smirk and said “We have a lot to talk about” the way he said it, implied some hidden agenda that Izuku wouldn't like.
Izuku averted his gaze and fixed it on the floor “Okay..” He managed to reply
