Golden Closet Mystery

Chapter 3: Morning

Summary:

Hoseok gets to know more about his old friend and Jungkook thinks he's made a new one.

Chapter Text

“So...You're a music major? Dude, why haven’t I seen you in any of our department buildings!” Hoseok stares at his reunited friend in awe. Hoseok was sitting in his green beanbag chair in the corner of his and Jungkook’s dorm room.

“I guess our schedules really don't go well with each other.” Namjoon chuckles. He is still surprised that he bumped into his old friend in the least likely ways possible. It was truly a stroke of good luck. “But you major in dance I would assume. Your classes and mines are in the complete opposites of each other.” He continues to sip a cup of coffee that was given to him while perched on one of the two beds.

Hoseok tilts his head slightly, “how did you know I was a dance major?” Namjoon spares a glance at the other and sighs, “oh please, dancing is in your blood. You would always go on about how you would perform in the biggest of stages back then in high school.

it would get so annoying sometimes” Namjoon says teasingly. Jungkook, who was sitting on his own bed that was placed on the other side of the room, lets out a short baffled laugh.

he thought to himself. Suddenly a towel gets thrown to his face.

“What are you laughing at Kooks!” Hoseok pouts. Jungkook cringes at the smell of the towel Hoseok threw at him, it was probably the same one he used to wipe his sweat while they were dancing together. Jungkook quickly looks down at Hoseok who was still pouting like a child.

“No no Hobi-hyung. I'm just laughing because I can hear you saying that so perfectly. You always have your dreams right beside your goals,” Jungkook looks down at the towel he was still holding on his lap. His face contorts to a slight frown, such scorn… He didn't realize how tight he was holding onto the towel. “It's really cool of you hyung.” Jungkook quickly looks up and sees Namjoon and Hoseok looking at him intently. As if caught slightly off guard with his remark. “A-and Its really cool that you're a Music major Namjoon-hyung!” Jungkook blushes as he tries to brighten the situation. He hates how he always manages to ruin the conversation with his own useless problems. Can't he just keep up a normal conversation without sulking constantly?

“Kookie you-” Hoseok tried to speak up. “Oh! Hoseok, we didn't even take a shower from our dance practice! We must stink real bad, I’ll head to the showers first.” Jungkook hops off from his own bed and scurries to his closet to get his supplies.

“Oh, you danced with Hobi? You must be really good! Are you a dance major as well?” Namjoon chimed as he saw Jungkook collecting his things for the shower. Hoseok glances at Namjoon wearily as if wanting to stop him from speaking any further. Jungkook paused and turns around. He smiles at Namjoon ever so gently, “actually I double major in biology and medicine aha.” his tone was with no bitterness, it was actually anything but that. But Namjoon could shake the uneasiness he had heard that from the boy. Jungkook bows slightly one last time before leaving the room.

Hoseok sinks further down in his bean bag chair running a hand down his face, all while groaning. Namjoon looks down at the other puzzled. “Did I say something wrong?”

Hoseok looks up at the ceiling.

“Nah, You didn't say anything wrong...Not at all...”

~*~

The next day was just another school day for Jungkook. He had 3 classes today. Waking up was particularly hard for him since he stayed up later than he intended. Namjoon didn't leave until midnight. The 3 of them didn't realize time going by so fast since they were so invested in each other. Hoseok and Namjoon manage to catch up with a lot of things while Jungkook would occasionally input a few sentences here and there but ultimately, he didn't want to be too much of a bother of his hyungs. He did take a certain liking to Namjoon’s personality, he had intelligent jokes and stories that would really make Jungkook be on the edge of his seat. All in all, he was a cool guy. And when Namjoon even said himself that he would love to see Hoseok and Jungkook again, Jungkook actually felt a little happy. Though he still has his doubts, but that was just because he had a hard time connecting with people in general.

Jungkook walks down the path to his class building with leisure. He left early to enjoy the early morning air. The trees always seemed to greet him as the wind gusts the branches back and forth and the leaves rustled welcomingly. He enjoys peaceful moments like this. It's times like this where he likes to close his eyes lightly and drift off into some other place in his imagination. His imagination is surely better than his medicine class.

Jungkook looks down at the path he’s walking through bitterly. Dance major... Jungkook could only include that to his imagination and never to be reached dreams. But as much as he likes dancing...Singing... That's his one true love. And yet, it feels so so far from reality. Jungkook, who was still lost in his own thoughts, didn't realize the few boys that were walking towards him in the other direction. It wasn't until a small “Oof” that made Jungkook looks up. He had bumped into one of the boys head on as he was walking.

“Hey hey, watch where you’re goi-” The other looks down slightly annoyed to see who bumped into him and to his surprise. It was someone he recognizes. “Oh, would you look at that?”

Jungkook jumps back a little bowing and apologizing non-stop as he stutters. “I-im sorry, I should’ve watched where I was going.” He said. But it was so soft and fragile sounding with stutters left and right.

“Aren’t you that Jeon kid? Jeon Jungkook?” The boy asked. “What? You think you're allowed to bump into anyone now?”

Another boy from the group joins in as Jungkook looks at them wearily. “I heard his father is a popular representative in this school, that's why he got in the first place. Isn’t that amazing?” The other boy says in a teasing tone. “This guy is all cocky thinking he can do just about anything huh.”

“No n-no, I didn't mean to-” Jungkook tries to speak up over them trying to clear up the misunderstanding.

The boy leans forward to Jungkook’s face tilting his head in a condescending way. He smirks, “and he’s trying to talk over us? Wow, what a rich kid, I'm hurt! Hey rich boy, do you want to give us some compensation money for this ordeal? Surely it should be no problem.” The others laughed alongside the main guy and Jungkook stands there lost in what to do.

Jungkook begins to shrug off his backpack trying his best to not show his hand shaking and rummages for his wallet.

“Hey look guys, he’s actually doing it!” The boy sneers and grabs Jungkook by the shoulders harshly. “You really can give away money like it grows on trees huh.”

“I don't h-have that mu-”

Suddenly he’s dragged by the collar of his button-down shirt and before you know it, he’s behind one of the buildings where people usually don't walk through. Jungkook should be numb to this by now but it always catches him off guard when these kinds of people show up to give him a hard time. You would think that this would stop when high school ends. Oh, how wrong he was.

his textbooks were thrown in the dirt while his hair and face were roughed up. He managed to take 2 punches to the face pretty well but he’s more upset about his glasses that took a mean blow. He just wants to go back to his dorm and lay under his sheets, away from the world.

The boy says still holding Jungkook by the collar. Jungkook was tilting away so he doesn't have to look directly at the offenders face that was so close to his.

“You disgust me. All of us worked hard to get here and you barely even lifted a finger.”

Jungkook mumbles, “-ts not true…”

“What did you say?”

He was beaten but he didn't feel defeated. Some cord struck the moment he heard the other say those words. Barley lifted a finger? Jungkook remembers all the days and nights he would spend studying relentlessly. Hearing constant backlash from others, letting others shape his own future, a written out future and he’s not even the author.

He never had a choice.

“It's not true,” Jungkook states looking at the other face to face. He had the fire in his eyes. Anger.

“Why you little,” The boy raised his arm once more in the intention to deal another blow until another voice is heard in the distance.

“Hey!”

The boy who held Jungkook quickly looked over his shoulder and saw someone running towards them. Jungkook assumed that he recognized the person form the way that his face contorted with displeasure.

“Shit, we have to go.” The boy ordered the others that were circling around him. Jungkook was pushed down to the ground and the boys left.

“Goddammit! They got away!” The person stops running, placing his hands on his knees. “Those little fuckers are too fast. Pussies…”

Jungkook looks up at the person standing in front of him in surprise. The other fixes his posture and turns to see Jungkook still sitting on the ground.

“Hey, are you alright? You seemed pretty roughed up.” He offers a hand.

“I-im alright, t-thank you…” Jungkook takes the hand and gets lifted up. He tries to dust off the dirt had on his clothes all while trying to apologize and thank his “savior” he notices that he’s a few inches taller than the boy. A small lean build as well.  For some reason, he feels even more pathetic for having to get help from another who seems smaller than him.

He thinks.

“Whoa, no need to repeat the thank yous. I'm just glad I heard what was going on back here…” the guy looks at Jungkook who looks flustered.

He decides to help by picking up the boy’s textbooks that there spread on the floor.

“Those assholes...What’s your name by the way?” He tries to start a light-hearted conversation.

“Jungkook. Jeon...Jungkook.” He always pauses when it comes to saying his full name. It's like a bad omen to him. He doesn’t know what would happen if he were to say it fully but he knows that most of the time, it ends in a bad result.

“Well, it's nice to meet you Jungkook! I wish we could’ve met in better terms” The boy finishes up picking up the textbook and sees Jungkook crouched down. He didn't notice before but the boy has some pretty nice features. His bangs were covering his slightly bruised face but he could see the small glimmer in his eyes. They were so brown, especially in this angle. His hair was also something to admire. It looked soft to the touch with its pure black color. Jungkook’s face was small and so were his lips and his body was slightly more built. You would think it would be an odd combination but it seemed quite fitting for him.

Jungkook looks up to the other who was crouched down with the textbooks in his hand. It seemed like they were both caught off guard. The other couldn't stop staring right into Jungkook’s eyes. They were big and round, it only made his entirety more...Cute. Jungkook quickly clears his throat while putting his glasses back on. It was slightly bent from the altercation earlier. He looks away from the other boy, blushing from the eye contact.

“Oh sorry!” The boy saw how Jungkook looked away realizing how shy this boy could be. “Here, your books. Luckily it was only the covers that were dirtied.” He smiles warmly. Jungkook slowly took the books and they both stand.

“Thank you for helping me...I r-really appreciate it!” Jungkook smiles and the other boy found it to be quite adorable.

“It’s no problem really. Hey, where are heading now?”

Jungkook points to the science building and the other beams. “Oh! I'm heading there as well! Let's go together!”

Jungkook panics in the inside. The only person he's had this much conversation and interactions within this university was Hoseok. He already met Namjoon the other day and already met with one more? Is this luck or a potential curse.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” The other begins to walk still smiling softly.

Jungkook snaps out of it in his head and decides to go with it. His goal was to trust more people after all. No everyone is bad. Or at least he hopes so. Plus his smile is...nice. It's comforting. He catches up to the guy and decides to walk next to each other.

Jungkook looks up at the boy opening his mouth, “so what's your name?”

“Excuse me?”

Jungkook’s face turns red not realizing how quiet his voice was. When will he ever get used to the basic human function of communication...  It sounded like a whisper despite the fact that their walking side by side.

“W-whats your name?” he says louder this time.

“Oh! God damn, I didn't even introduce myself aha.” The blonde boy laughs to himself while rubbing the back of his head. Jungkook notices how much the other curses. Noted.

“I'm Park Jimin. Nice to meet you Jungkook!”
