Chapter Text

“You know,” Ash blonde hair bounced as he walked. “When I was told I was meeting the heir. I expected him to look a little something like me.” Red-violet eyes flashed as he hovered, fangs showing in his toothy grin.
“Fana stop.” The sunflower golden boy spoke, his wings held close to his body. “You've known since we met I was a demon.”
“Yeah but I didn't know you were his son. Like fuck Mundr. Give a guy some warning before he. Uh before he suddenly meets the king of hell.” Afanasiy rubbed a hand over his neck, beginning to move once again but forgoing walking.
“Fana come on, you know how demons feel about Vamps.” Agmundr looked around nervously before stopping himself.
“Right sorry, forgot I was a lesser being here. Didn't know that when you came of age you'd turn into a dick.” Afanasiy was hurt, frowning as he turned away. “You know where to find me if you want to hang out.”
“Wait. Fana please, that's not what I meant.” Agmundr's voice drowned out as he watched the other transform and leave. Groaning and throwing his hands into the air he pushed his wings outwards. They were a pale green, like his eyes, but underneath they were black. He had sharp nail like points making it look as if he had large bat wings on his back. Forcing himself to focus he flew back to his house. Ignoring everyone as me made it up to his room, slamming the door behind himself.
“Mun Mun?” A soft voice followed a gentle knock.
“Yes Mother?” Agmundr sighed, turning towards the door.
“Is everything alright? I heard your door slam?” He met her eyes as the door fully opened.
“Why are vampires seen as something less than demons?” Agmundr looked away finding the words. “Why is father against them so much?”
“Is this because of Afanasiy?”
“Slightly. We had an altercation.” Agmundr hesitated as he found the right words.
“Well it happened a long time ago, before your father and I were married.” His mother sat on his bed, gesturing for him to join as she began the tale. “We were just children, out above wandering around. We found a village. Everyone who lived there was dead, blood covered everything. Humans, now not many cared for them but they didn’t deserve that. Upon searching a bit we found marks on the bodies.” She paused a moment. “Your father was angry, I was mortified. He convinced his mother that all vampires were to blame, she passed a decree that stated if you saw one in public chase it into the forest and handle it how you see fit.”
“How did he know vampires did it?”
“He didn't for sure, the only reason I can remember would be how they were killed.”
“Did any demon actually kill a vampire?” Agmundr felt sick.
“No, they just ran them off. After your father became king I was able to make him amend that decree. Instead of the option to slaughter them, just run them off. Make them stay away from large populations of humans.”
“What. Do you like Afanasiy Mother?”
“I like him very much. He's a very sweet vampire.”
“What about Father?”
“He's very. Particular about this one. But soon enough, Munny, you'll be king and then you can make or change any rule you want.” His Mother smiled, getting up she walked towards the door. “Don't let your thoughts about your Father's approval push him away. He's a great friend for you.”
“Sure Mother.” Agmundr said more to himself than her. Standing as he thought, his wings shifted nervously.

-------

“Why don't you just tell him you love him?” A redheaded faerie asked.
“Oh right cause it's that easy. Let me just march down there, where no one likes my kind might I add, and confess to the son of the fucking king. Great idea Alas.” Afanasiy was frowning, his voice hard.
“Look I'm not saying it'll be easy.” Alastar cut himself off, looking behind Afanasiy.
“Um Fana, can I talk to you for a minute?” Agmundr couldn't meet their eyes but he felt as their gaze passed over his body.
“I. Sure. Inside?” Afanasiy was moving towards the door before he finished his sentence. “I'll be out soon Alas, you can stay if you want.” Alastar smiled, giving a go for it motion after Agmundr passed. “What do you want to talk about?”
“I'm sorry about earlier. It was wrong of me to do that. I learned why everyone is how they are about vampires.” Agmundr kept his gaze down.
“And why is that?”
“My parents found a village ransacked and every human was murdered, blood being everywhere. They were just kids, and my Father convinced the queen to kill vamps. When he became king he stopped the murders and instead made the demons run off every vampire they saw near human population.”
“That was a long time ago, my parents lived in that village, or rather one just like it probably. The vampires saved them.” Afanasiy started. “They were ransacked by bandits, vampires came by after. They saved my parents, and a few other families.”
“But then you'd be older than me, way older.”
“I'm not, only a hundred years or so. I was born a vampire, why I can turn into a bat, my parents can’t.”
“You know when I'm king I can change the rules?” Agmundr blurted out.
“Yeah I know, you'll be great.” Afanasiy smiled softly. “Go head home. I'll see you tomorrow okay?”
“Okay yeah.” Agmundr started moving forward but paused when he felt Afanasiy’s hand in his own, looking down at it confused before meeting his eyes.
“Agmundr wait I don't. I care for you, a lot.”
“I know.”
“No you don't. Agmundr. Mundr, I love you.” Afanasiy hesitantly let go of the other's hand, backing away. “I. It's okay if you want to forget about this or whatever. Just needed to say it.” Looking up he saw Agmundr enter the treeline, wings spreading to take off. He walked to the door, leaning against the frame with a heavy sigh. “I told you, it's harder than it seems Alastar.”
“He cares, he's just scared. He'll tell you how he feels, just give him time.”

-----

“Mother please I need to speak with you.” Agmundr was out of breath as he barged back into his house, seeking out his mom.
“Yes?”
“My room please.” Agmundr was nervous, and seeing his father made his stomach twist, he needed to get out. Walking with his mother to his room calmed him briefly, she closed the door after they entered and waited patiently. “I. When someone confesses what should you do?”
“Someone confessed? Who?” She asked, looking up he saw her large grin, she knew the answer to that. “Well fine, if you love them back I say it's your choice. But don't accept because you think you have too.”
“Wha. What if one is expected to get a wife, have children, carry on a line?”
“They're only expected to, they don't have to.”
“Mother I think I'm in love with Afanasiy.” Agmundr sounded choked up, his heart racing.
“That's okay. There were other gay kings before you, you know. It's going to be fine. And I'll let you in on a secret, no one's going to throw a fit if you take someone else to continue the line.”
“I. What, Mother. That's way too far in our future.” Agmundr's heart was pounding but he felt oddly calm. “Thank you for listening Mother, I have to go find Fana.”

-----

“Fanaisy, please open up. I.”
“Its midnight. I'm doing things Agmundr. You know vampire things.” Afanasiy was acting like a jerk, he knew it but wouldn't listen to his better judgement.
“Fanaisy.. Just please open the door I have to talk with you.”
“Sorry, I'm busy. Just come yell at me tomorrow..” Afanasiy hated how small he felt, the walls closing in, forcing the front door closer.
“I'm not going to yell, I promise. Please, this is about earlier.” Agmundr was calmer than when he got to the house.
“What do you want Mundr?” The door slowly opened, revealing a very nervous looking Afanasiy.
“I wanted this to be done right but I know you won't believe me otherwise.” Agmundr started, a nervous bounce to his stance. Gently tugging at the others hands pulling him forward slightly, putting a hand on the back of the others neck as he linked their fingers together with his other. His nerves flaring, quickly glancing over the other’s face he made the final choice. Meeting him halfway, their lips softly pressing against each other, Agmundr pushing slightly for more. Afanasiy slowly started moving, his brain kicking in a moment after the kiss started. Hand going to Agmundr's hair, tugging gently, before pulling away slightly. “So um, what do you say?”
“Was that you asking me out?” Afanasiy grinned, teeth showing and cheeks flushed.
“Yes?”
“I’d love too.”
“Oh also apparently demons are fine with royalty taking on, basically, a child bearer if the king or queen is gay? I'm not to sure if I believe that. My mom told me last minute.” Agmundr was smiling still, his tone hinting at how unsure he was.
“Well either way it's fine. That's way too far away to plan out now.” Afanasiy tilted his head slightly, a fond look passing over his features. “Right now I want to focus on us, my dear heir.” Agmundr laughed in response, when he smiled a little bit of fangs showed, Afanasiy grinned wider before kissing him once again.
