Chapter Text
“So you’re going then?”
She watched Dean turn towards her voice, his new look still shocking to her, even after months of seeing him with it. She doesn’t think that she’ll ever get used to his lack of bangs. He gave her a sad smile.
“It’s time.” He said simply.
Becky sighed, moving closer to him, leaning against the wall next to him. “That’s all I get?”
He ran a hand over his cut hair, turning his head down. “What do you want me to say, Becky? I’ve been unhappy here for a long time. It’s time.”
“That’s not the goddamn point, Dean!”
He turned to face her, fire in his eyes. “And what is, Becky!?”
“I had to find out through a fucking dirt sheet? I know that your injury hit you hard, and I respected your need for space then, but then you come back and become some complete asshole over here, and don’t return my calls. So, now I have to fucking come track you down after I’m done making Ronnie cry.”
“Sounds like I’m just an afterthought anyway.” He tried to walk off, ignoring her, but she couldn’t let him get away that easy. She stormed after him only to shove him into a wall, obviously surprising him.
“Don’t do that. I know you better than you do. You’re doing that thing where you make someone angry with you to hide your feelings. Suck it up and talk to me before I put you down and force you.”
He sighed. “Fine. I… I have a lot going on. I just haven’t felt right in a long time. This feels like the first good decision I’ve made since walking up to you.” He gave her a grimace that almost looked like his old smile. “I just thought that you’d get mad or talk me out of it if I told you… if you even cared with all your recent success.”
Becky felt the needle at her, but ignored it. “You’re an idiot. Of course I wouldn’t have talked you out of it. If you’d be happier with another promotion, then I’d support you. You should know that after this many years. You shut me out, after you promised you wouldn’t when we got separated. That’s what I’m mad about.”
Dean stayed quiet for a while. “I’m sorry. I-I thought this would be easier.”
“You can go All Elite, or you can go back to that bloodbath in CZW, but you’re not losing me.” She gave him a small smile. “No one gets away from The Man.”
He breathed out a little, almost laugh. “So you’re not mad?”
“Not at all. Just don’t be as much of an asshole… at least not to me.”
He actually chuckled. “That’s fair. You’ve been doing really good by the way.”
Becky grinned. “Don’t have to tell me that. I know.” She patted her chest, The Man T shirt proudly displayed.
He smirked, unbuttoning his jacket, showing her his own The Man T shirt under it. “Guess some things will never change, huh?”
She rushed under his arms and wrapped him in a hug. “Guess not.” She mumbled in his chest. “And they never will.”
