Chapter Text

Fendral stood a little ways away from Bilbo and the dwarves while near Thorin and Gandalf. He stretched his arms while while eyeing the statues of the trolls and surrounding. Around the rest of the troll camp the dwarfs did the same.

“Where did you go?” Thorin asked of Gandalf.

Gandalf replied, “To look ahead.”

“And why did you come back?”

“By looking behind.”

Thorin looking slightly awkward and repentant looked towards the now stone trolls. Gandalf followed his gaze and hmmed inquisitively.

“They must have come from Ettenmoors,” said Gandalf to both Thorin and Fendral. Fendral nodded in agreement.

“Odd though,” voiced Thorin, “That they were this far south. Especially in daylight.”

Gandalf agreed saying, “There must be a cave near by. Fendral can you find it?”

“I did find tracks but I don’t need to do anything. The others seem to have already found it,” mention Fendral. He gestured to the direction the others had gone.

The three of them knew something was being left unsaid. But none of them were willing to touch it. With that they went to join the others.

In the cave they found it was filled with the belongings of the people the trolls had eaten. As Fendral walked through his foot bumped against something. He looked down and saw a sword. It had a silver hilt with black leather with the guard curving upward. Taking it out of the sheath he saw the blade itself was in surprisingly good condition with odd runes running down it.

Sheathing it and attaching it to his belt he returned to the group. Once there he saw them burying a chest of gold as a ‘long term investment’.

That’s when they heard a voice crying out, “Help! Murder!”
