Chapter Text
Haruna set the Sukiyaki on the table, along with silverware and cups for everyone's drinks. Counting the settings at the table, she made sure they had enough seats for everyone. Izuku had already taken his seat at the table next to where Kanaji would be sitting. She smiled warmly; Izuku loved Kanaji like a brother.
Kanaji.... right, he's asleep.
Haruna quietly walked into her room and tapped the shoulder of her rainbow-haired boyfriend. With a short yawn, he awoke.
"Heeeeeyyyy Runaaaa... my angelll... my senpaaaiiii..."
"Hey sleepyhead," Haruna giggled softly, "are you hungry? It's supper time. You can lay Thijs on the couch in the living room, so he doesn't wake up disoriented."
Kanaji nodded and carefully stood, not wanting to drop Thijs. He followed Haruna into the living room so he could set Thijs down.
"Good evening, Kanaji. Did you sleep well?" Asked Inko, as the couple entered the room.
Kanaji replied with a simple nod as he and Haruna sat at the table. Inko glanced towards the front door then sighed and sat at the table. The family all waited in anticipation before Izuku spoke up.
"I don't think daddy is gonna come home."
"That's ok, Izu," Kanaji said, facing Izuku, "He's probably just a bit late."
As if on cue, Hisashi walked into the apartment, but he wasn't alone; following suit was a brunette woman who was seemingly American. The family exchanged awkward glances, then looked back to Hisashi and the "mystery woman".
"Hello, Hisashi..." Inko said, standing to greet her husband, "who's this?"
"I'm Janice. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." She said, introducing herself in her best Japanese.
Hisashi explained that she was just a friend from work who happened to be in town at the same time as him. Skeptically, Inko glanced back at Haruna. Haruna shrugged as Kanaji got up to set another place at the table. Once everything had been sorted out, they all took their places at the table and ate in an awkward silence.
To break the silence, Kanaji spoke up, "So um... Mr. Midoriya.. what kind of work do you do?"
Janice and Hisashi glanced at each other. "Well, I... um..."
"He's a lawyer in America." Janice quickly answered.
Yet again, skeptical glances were exchanged. Hisashi gave a slight nod of confirmation.
"Oh... That's cool," Kanaji picked at his food with his chopsticks, "Miss Janice, do you work with him?"
"Oh, no. No, we're just close. Very close." She winked and proceeded to eat her Sukiyaki.
Izuku uncomfortably looked at the faces of everyone at the table. He was confused but proceeded to eat his supper without a word. Inko was obviously onto Hisashi for something. She glanced at Haruna, who was looking at her with the same suspicious expression.
After supper, Inko and Hisashi washed the dishes as Kanaji and Haruna sat in the living room.
"Your father seems like a really nice guy," Kanaji said with a slight smile, "it's no wonder Izuku missed him so much."
"Mhm... but I feel like something fishy is going on with that 'Janice' lady. Like hell, they're just friends. They're probably having an affair."
Haruna was interrupted when Janice covered her mouth from behind. Hisashi knelt in front of Haruna and made direct eye contact.
"Don't tell your mother anything. Do you hear me? Nothing leaves this room," He sighed, "I'm going to let her down gently."
Inko, who was standing only a few feet away, spoke. "Define gently."
"Inko! Don't take it the wrong way..."
"Is there a right way to take it?! You're cheating on me, Hisashi!" Inko took a deep breath. "how long has this been going on?"
She was greeted with nothing but silence.
"How long?!?!"
Hisashi and Janice looked at each other in thought, "10 years?"
Inko covered her mouth with her hand to stifle her crying, "We have been married for 14 years, Hisashi..."
Haruna glared at her father menacingly. Her glare bore the look of disappointment and anger. Kanaji, at noticing Inko crying, immediately stood and comforted her.
"Mr. Midoriya," Kanaji began, facing Hisashi, "forgive me, this probably isn't my place to speak, but... you should be ashamed of yourself. You have a wife and children yet you still proceed to mingle in this other affair. What's worse is that you let to go on for such a long time. Did you ever once stop to think about how much this would affect everyone else?"
"Kanaji, you're right."
"I am?"
"Yes. This is not your place." Hisashi stood and started towards Inko.
Inko continued to hug Kanaji as he was comforting her. Hisashi placed his hand on Inko's shoulder.
"Inko, please listen to me."
"There's no need... I've heard enough. You should leave." Inko's voice cracked as she spoke.
"But Inko-"
"Get the hell out of my house, Hisashi!!!!" Inko forcefully shoved him towards Janice, "Janice, you can have him. He doesn't deserve me anymore. He clearly wants you above all else."
There was an awkward silence about the room as everyone tried to register to what was happening. The silence was broken by Izuku and Thijs, both of which had been standing in a hallway during the conversation.
"Daddy is leaving?" spoke Izuku, tightly clutching his All Might toy in his petite hands. Thijs was tiredly leaning against Izuku but was clearly wanting to know what was going on.
"Yes, Izu," Haruna said, speaking for Inko. She approached Hisashi and looked him directly in his eyes, now more talking to him than Izuku, "and we never want to see his damn face here ever again."
Swiftly and painfully, Hisashi slapped Haruna across her frail face. She choked, holding back a wince. Kanaji looked from Inko to Haruna then to Inko again, torn between which of the women he should be comforting in the instance; his girlfriend, or his girlfriend's mother. The father and daughter simultaneously began screaming curses at each other in an argument. Izuku and Thijs cried at hearing the argument. Everything collapsed into chaos until Kanaji spoke up.
"EVERYONE JUST SHUT UP!!!"
Everyone fell silent in shock at hearing the normally silent teenager shout. His eyes, which changed with his emotions, flickered between a red of rage and a blue of sorrow. He took several deep breaths to calm himself.
"Look... I get it, this is shocking and heck, it hurts really bad for most of us," he briefly regarded Hisashi, then looked away, "but we shouldn't be fighting and cursing. For one, Izuku and Thijs are right there. On another note, there are simpler ways to resolve family feuds."
Hisashi interrupted Kanaji, "You're out of place again, boy. Why the hell are you still even here? Go home."
Yet again, a silence filled the room. Kanaji's eyes became deep blue as he opened his mouth to speak, but managed to say absolutely nothing. Instead, he walked to his and Haruna's shared bedroom.
"Hisashi, leave. Now." Inko demanded.
Instead of snapping back, Hisashi resorted to flipping her off as he left with Janice. Inko collapsed on the couch in a fit of tears. In just a blink of an eye, her long-time husband was gone.
