Chapter Text
'Psshhhhhhh' You opened your beer.
'Clink' You tapped your bottle against Sam, Dean, and Cas' bottles.
"A toast. To the good times, the bad times, and more importantly the good times. I know you guys are ready to just drink so let me just get to the point. I'm grateful for each and every one of you. Sam, Cas, (Y/N); you are my family. And I love you all. No matter what happens, that won't change." Dean sank down his beer, along with you, Sam, and Cas. There was no special occasion for this. No end of the world, no birthday, just a normal day.
Cas squeezed at your knee firmly to get your attention. He spoke softly into your ear, "I just want to remind you that you are one of the strongest people I know. I know you think this is just some random party, but for me, it's the anniversary of the day you stayed clean." You felt so moved by Cas' words. The way he remembered the exact date had you mesmerized.
"Three years and you still cease to amaze me." You smile at him.
He grinned back at you and kissed you, making Sam and Dean look at each other. Both brothers faked a gag, and teased Cas and you.
“Ew!” Dean groans. “In front of my beer?”
“Yeah, guys, come on! Don’t you have a room you can go to?” Sam joins in.
Cas is laughing, throwing his head back, his eyes squinted shut. You take that moment to really appreciate how beautiful he is. Everything he felt seemed to be so raw and true. That was one of the reasons you fell for him. He never seemed to have a mask on around you.
You mocked a laugh at Sam and Dean. “Very funny, dumb and dumber.” Dean made a fake offended glare. “But for all Cas and I care, we could do it right on this table. Right now, right h-“
“Okay,” Sam cut in. “You win!” He threw his hands up in surrender. And when you took a glance at Dean, he did the same.
Cas was still laughing, but managed to speak through gasps, “Well, how do they know if we’ve never done it on this table?” You smirked at Cas and giggled as Sam and Dean backed away from the table.
“We eat there, come on!” Dean scolded, half joking.
“We’re kidding!” You said. “Thank you for the drinks and an amazing meal, Dean. And thank you Sam for... well, I guess being alive.” Sam shrugged modestly.
“You’re welcome.” Both men spoke. Cas and you stood and left the room with a ‘good night’.
Dean coughed. “Do you- uh... do you think they really did it on the table?”
“What? No!” Sam blurted, looking at Dean. Then he looked back at the table. It was something neither of them wanted to think about.
Cas shut the door behind you, both of you still sniggering.
”Did you see their faces?” You laughed out, holding your stomach.
“It looked like Sam was about to puke!” Cas held his hand over his mouth to muffle his hard laughter.
You felt tears in your eyes, and your stomach was cramping, your lips and jaw started feeling tired. All from laughing so hard. Cas was the only one who could make you laugh that hard. Hard enough to double over.
When the laughing finally ceased, Cas sat at the edge of the bed and tapped beside him for you to join. You complied and leaned your head on his chest as he put his arm around you.
”I really am proud of you.”
“I know. I’m proud of me too. I’m proud that I can even be proud of myself.” You breathed, a little bit of shock in your throat.
Cas stayed silent. He was trying to find the words. Or rather remember them. He’d gone over his mental script hundreds of times. But now that he was here, and this was the moment, he couldn’t seem to calm his mind.
“Are you okay?” You noticed him acting a little strange. He was staring at the door and spacing out. He shook his head as he came out of his trance.
“Yes. Of course.” He smiled. “I’m great.” In all the places Cas had been, and he’d been many places, the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen is your smile. Not The Alps, or Venice, or even heaven. It was you. Screw the script. This was happening right now. “You know what?” He said, turning towards you. “I’m better than just great. I feel amazing.” He reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. “Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve felt more than I ever have. You’ve shown me how truly complicated and complex humans are. You’ve taught me how different each human can be. You’ve helped me experience a feeling I never thought I would so vibrantly and powerful. You’ve shown me what love is.” Cas was now kneeling down in front of you, looking up at you. Tears coated your eyes as he went on. “I love you, (Y/N). You are one of the most important things in my life and I never want to lose you. I never want to know what my life would have been like without you.” Cas slipped his hand inside his blazer and retrieved a navy blue box. He propped up his knee, hoping to father it was the right one, and opened the leather clothed cube. “Will you be my forever?” His voice shook slightly, tears choking him, and his hands had a slight tremor.
You were crying, sobbing really. You nodded and attempted to wipe your tears. “Yes, of course.”
That was it for Cas. He started to cry as he put the ring onto your shaky finger. He stood up and kissed you, holding you in his arms. You both held onto each other for a while. Letting yourselves have a moment.
“I love you, so much, (y/n).”
“I love you too, Castiel.”
You both slept good that night. You couldn’t have guessed that Cas had that planned. You two had already talked about marriages and how, with your lifestyles, it wouldn’t be a good idea. How Cas worded it was just perfect. Maybe instead of a Hunters funeral, there could be a Hunters wedding. That sounded fun. In all honesty, you couldn’t wait for Sam and Deans reaction. Well, you could wait just a little. Just until you and Cas wake up.
