Good Or Bad Luck: Chapter 45

It has been three days since Aubrey’s surgery. Both Beca and Chloe are checking in on their respective best friends. Chloe having better luck than Beca at this point. Aubrey is slowly understanding her predicament and wants to give talking to Stacie a chance. Sadly, Stacie has not been around to visit the blonde, not even during her shifts.

Beca has tried to convince Stacie to go and visit Aubrey but Stacie keeps refusing, claiming she needs more time to sort out her own feelings. Yet Stacie did accept a lady’s night out to just have a bit of fun after all the disasters that have ensued.

Stacie is mindlessly sitting on the edge of the bed, her mind not wanting to cooperate with anything she wants to do. For instance, right now she should be getting ready for a girl’s night out with Beca, Chloe and Emily. Instead of getting dressed she’s playing with a locket that belonged to her grandmother

A faint knock on her door brings her out of her faint trance, and she looks up to see her aunt peeking in, gently, trying not to disturb the brunette. “Are you feeling ok Lucky Charms?” Sabrina asks, once she knows it’s safe to come it.

Stacie chuckles at the nickname she was dubbed for when she was four years old. Damn her addiction to Luck Charms. “I’m fi-“Stacie starts but quickly cuts herself of, starting over. “I’m not sure aunt Brina, I’m confused about everything and nothing seems to make sense to me.” The brunette quietly admits.

“Well, how about you try to describe what you’re feeling to me? Maybe it will clear some things up for you, or maybe I can help with something.” Sabrina offers with a reassuring smile.

Stacie lets out a heavy sigh, not sure where to begin explaining how she feels. She honestly doesn’t know how she feels. “Aunt Brina, can I ask you a question?” Stacie asks, not daring to look up from her knees.

Sabrina nods her head and sits down next to her niece. She patiently waits for Stacie to start talking. It takes the brunette a moment but eventually she manages. “Aubrey wants to see me, have talk…” She starts. “According to Beca its nothing bad, but I’m terrified. Terrified that she finally made up her mind and will tell me its over, forever.”

“What if she tells you she made a mistake?” Sabrina asks challengingly. “I mean she did have time to think about everything, maybe her fears settled down and she wants to apologize.” Sabrina says almost matter of factly.

Stacie shakes her head. “No aunt Brina, I don’t think that could be it. I’ll just wait until she gets out of the hospital to talk to her. We need to set an arrangement for my apartment. I don’t want her to feel like she’s not welcome to stay there for as long as she needs. Especially now that Beca and Chloe are staying together more often.”

Sabrina raises her brow with an amused grin. “So, it’s getting serious between them? She asks coyly. “And if so, why would it cause an issue for them?”

“Well, Chloe is Aubrey’s best friend and Chloe will definitely tell Aubrey she can stay with her, which means that Chloe wouldn’t be able to stay over at Beca’s that often anymore.” With a heavy sigh Stacie gets up from the bed and walks over to the dresser in the room.

Sabrina looks at her niece with a thoughtful look when an idea pops into her head. “What if I told you I had an idea to win Aubrey’s heart back?” She ask, instantly catching the brunette’s attention. “It’s risky and we’ll need Beca’s help for sure, but I think we should be able to pull it off.”

Stacie’s eyes fill up with hope, and she urges her aunt to continue. “Please aunt Brina, what do you have in mind? I only have 4 days to put everything together. I will need more details than that. Please?"

Beca is scrolling through her phone checking her facebook while waiting for Emily to get ready. Chloe and she had talked about it and had decided that bringing the younger girl with them for their girls’ night out would be fun. Of course, they wouldn’t let her drink but that didn’t really seem to be an issue. When the clock strikes 8 PM, Beca decided to go check on Emily since it had been really quiet for a while now.

The brunette makes her way to the slightly open door and can hear Emily talking to someone on the phone. Very quickly she understands who she is talking to. Emily and Benji talk to each other every evening. It’s adorable.

It pains Beca to have to cut the conversation short between the two but they had to go to Chloe’s place to pick her up. So Beca gently knocks on the door and Emily instantly stops talking and shouts ‘come in’.

“Hey Em, sorry to interrupt, but we need to get going. Chloe is waiting for us. You almost ready?” The door swings open, revealing a ready Emily. The young girl is wearing a simple black dress down to her knees with a jean jacket. “I guess that’s a yes.” Beca laughs. “Say hi to Benji for me.”

Emily quickly says her goodbye and hangs up. “Sorry Beca, I lost track of time.” The young girl apologizes with an awkward yet adorable smile. “I should have checked my phone more often a-“

“Okay, I’ll stop you right here before you start apologizing for things you shouldn’t be apologizing for.” Beca says with a playful eye roll. “I don’t mind you talking to Benji, I’m happy to see both of you smile more. I’m sorry I cut the conversation short.”

Emily shakes her head. “No, Beca, you didn’t. We have been talking over an hour and he has plans tonight anyway.” The young girl watches Beca’s smile drop. Had she said something wrong? “Uh Beca are you alright?” She asks carefully.

Beca nods her head slowly but it doesn’t look convincing. Beca seems to realize that and puts up a smile. “Don’t worry about it, I just didn’t know Benji was going out tonight. He uh he usually tells me.” Beca scratches the back of her neck with a strained laugh.

“Oh no, nononono he’s not going out.” Emily interjects. “Him and misses Conrad are doing something tonight. He didn’t tell me what but said it would be fun.” Emily watches Beca let out a relived breath. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”

“That’s alright Em, I guess I should start to get used to Benji doing his own thing.” Beca says with a shrug. “It’s all kind off new to me, especially now that he is going to go off to college.” Once she realizes she’s getting a bit sappy, Beca clears her throat quickly. “So, anyways. We uh we should get going. Chloe is waiting for us.”

Emily doesn’t get a chance to say anything to Beca and decide to pack her purse. Once she has everything she needs, she heads out to the living room where she finds Beca leaning against the door, waiting for her. “I’m ready.”

The sudden voice startles Beca slightly. “Cool, we should get going. We’re taking my bike to get to Chloe’s then we’ll take a car. Oh and please take a jacket, I don’t want you getting sick.” Beca is already grabbing on of Emily’s jackets of the hook and handing it to the young girl.

The young brunette accepts the jacket and heads out the door in silence. Beca seems to be in a strange mood and it doesn’t sit well with her. She would have to talk to Chloe about it once they get there.

Chloe heads towards her door once she hears the doorbell. She was almost ready, she only had to touch up her make up a little bit. “Hey babe,” She says when Beca appears. “hi Emily, how are you two tonight?” Chloe watches Beca shrug her shoulders in indifference and looks at Emily for some kind of explanation.

“Hey Em, do you mind giving me a hand with some accessory choices?” Chloe asks with a smile. “Becs, you don’t mind waiting for Stacie and letting her in, do you?” Beca shakes her head and sits down on the couch while still being completely absorbed by her phone.

Once the two others have made it up the stairs, and out of Beca’s hearing distance Chloe breaks. “What’s going on Emily? Did something happen at home?” The redhead asks worriedly.

“I’m not sure, she started being weird after I told her that Benji had plans tonight and it freaked her out a bit. She did seem to relax a bit once I told her that it would be with misses Conrad.” Emily explains. “But one thing did stand out to me though.” She adds quickly. “I have never seen Beca on her phone that much.”

“So you noticed that too?” Chloe asks, even more shocked. “I honestly believe that there is something else going on. Something that she is not telling us about.” With a heavy sigh Chloe sits down on her chair in front of her mirror. “I will talk to her, but I don’t want mess up this evening, I’ll have to do it tomorrow.”

Emily silently agrees with the redhead. She wants to say something to Chloe but gets interrupted by the bell ringing and deflects her thoughts. “Oh, I guess that uh Stacie just arrived.”

“Yes, it seems so.” Chloe muses absentmindedly.

Emily sighs lightly and looks around the room. She quickly spots a necklace that would go perfectly with Chloe’s dress. Even though they used that excuse as a slight decoy, she’s still not good with lying. “Hey Chloe?” The redhead hums slightly in response, not completely acknowledging the young girl. “What do you think of this necklace?”

Chloe finally snaps out of her daze and looks over at Emily. “Huh? What? Oh yes, that’s… that’s actually a great choice. Thank you.” The redhead wants to accept the necklace but decides to turn around and let Emily put it on her.

“You look gorgeous Chloe.” Emily says with a smile.

“Thank you Em, so do you. I bet you have Benji swooning over you all the time.” Looking at Emily’s slightly uncomfortable face, Chloe knows she isn’t wrong. Yet she is pretty surprised when Emily shakes her head no. “What do you mean no?” Chloe asks, not believing what she’s seeing.

The young brunette shrugs her shoulders. “Not sure, I mean Benji is the sweetest, kindest and warmest guy I’ve ever met but…” Emily stops talking, trying to think things over. She only starts talking again when Chloe puts a comforting hand on her elbow. “I’m insecure about everything. I mean he is the perfect guy and we have talked about; you know, previous relationships and I’m just scared that I won’t be enough for him.”

Seeing that the young girl is about to cry, Chloe gets up and pulls her towards the bed in silence. She gently eases the girl to sit down and then proceeds to sit down next to her, pulling het into a tight hug. They just sit in silence for a few minutes, just enjoying the quiet.

“Hey Chloe?” Emily whispers carefully. “Do you think you and could grab some coffee together tomorrow?”

Chloe slightly backs away from the young girl with a smile and nods. “Of course, I guess talking about boys is not Beca’s forte huh?” Emily lets out a chuckle. “Thought so. Speaking of Beca, maybe we should head down and start our lady’s night. I strongly believe we can all use it for various reasons.”

The two women get up from the bed and make their way downstairs. Before even making it through the door they hear a loud yell coming from none other than Beca. “Are you out of your mind?!” Emily and Chloe share an uneasy look and rush down. They find Beca and Stacie standing in the middle of the living room, staring at each other.
