Chapter Text
“‘Zuku, I’m home.” Todoroki called out, hanging his coat up. His schedule hadn’t fit in with Izuku’s so they hadn’t seen each other properly in weeks. But Todoroki had a week off and so did Izuku. “I bought some popcorn and stuff on the way home for a night in.” He said loudly, looking around for his partner. “Izuchan?” He called, knowing Izuku could never ignore him when he called him that.
“I’m in the bedroom!” Izuku called out, making Todoroki raise his eyebrows.
“Oh yeah?” He bit his lip, putting the bag on the counter and making his way through the house.
He opened the door with a smile and stopped when he saw rose petals all over the bed. The lights were off, the room only lighted by the soft glow of candlelight. He swallowed when he saw his boyfriend in a shirt and trousers, with his green hair styled. He never wore smart clothes on his days off and his hair never cooperated: what was going on?
“Zuku?” was all he could say.
“Shocchan.” Izuku responded, smiling brightly. The green haired man looked nervous, but what was new there? “I-I don’t know if you know what day it is today.”
“Our two year anniversary.” Shoto responded coolly and Izuku smiled, clearly relieved.
“I-I wasn’t sure you’d remember.” He smiled at the floor and Shoto moved closer to move Izuku’s gaze up to his.
“Of course I did.” Shoto whispered softly, staring into Izuku’s eyes.
“Why don’t you sit down?” Izuku said, steering Todoroki to the bed like it wasn’t a suggestion. Shoto took in his worried demeanour and immediately started worrying.
“What’s wrong Izuku? Are you breaking up with me?”
“NO! No no, quite the opposite really.” Izuku mumbled, and Todoroki furrowed his eyebrows, not quite hearing his boyfriend.
“Then what is it?”
Izuku took a breath before smiling at Shoto. “I remember when you called me your rival in year 1 of UA. Just before the sports festival.”
Shoto went to say something but Izuku stopped him with a smile.
“I remember because you had caught my eye at the beginning of the year. I wanted to be your friend. So when you said you were my rival, I panicked. But I realised that you were so hellbent on proving to your father that you didn’t need his quirk to succeed. And you were right. Of course you were. You don’t need anyone else to succeed. It was destined for you to become a top hero. And I’m so glad about that because it means we spent a lot of time together. My feelings didn’t go away over that time, they only got stronger. I ran from them for so long because I thought you were better than me and I didn’t deserve love. But you love me too.”
Izuku’s voice wavered so he took a deep breath to compose himself. “Two years ago, you confessed your feelings and I almost lost you. At least, I thought I did. And it tore me apart. I’m so happy I’ve had you in my life for these years, they’ve been the happiest of my life. And I want to create more amazing memories with you by my side.”
“Izuku...”
“What I’m trying to say is...” Izuku took another deep breath before slowly going on one knee, pulling a box out of his pocket. “Shoto Todoroki, will you marry me?”
Todoroki felt like his heart had stopped. It took a few seconds to come back to his senses, which lodged Izuku’s heart in his throat.
“... Yes.”
Todoroki’s voice startled Izuku, who stared up at him. “What?”
“Yes. Yes I’ll marry you.” Todoroki smiled at him, grinning widely as Izuku put a ring on his finger and kissed him.
“I figured you wouldn’t want an engagement ring too flashy, so I got this one.” Izuku smiled and Todoroki stared at it. It felt weird to wear a ring, but so right.
“I love it. And I love you.” Todoroki pulled Izuku in for another kiss.
When they broke apart, Izuku smiled up at him.
“I can’t believe we got here. I never thought it would happen.” Todoroki gazes down at Izuku, his hand on his fiancé’s cheek.
“At it all started with a villain.”
