Chapter Text
July 2019, Saturday
Wedding Venue
Yoongi shouldn’t have come.
When Jungkook brought home the white envelope, Yoongi knew immediately what had inside and he didn’t want to see. In fact he had been pretending the last few months that it wasn’t happening. Between promoting his new album and writing new heartbreak songs, it almost worked.
He was surprised that he was invited and it seems that Hoseok was too by the way his eyes almost feel out of his face when he saw him arrive.
“I know, I know, I look handsome.” Yoongi did a little spin making the best man laugh.
“You do! Look at you, all fancy and dressed up, and you even combed your hair!” Hobi laughed hugging him. It’s been a while since they talked so freely.
“How are you doing?”
Yoongi has been answering that question a lot now. Namjoon would ask him at least 5 times a day and Jin would text him at random times. He always says he is fine, sometimes he lies other times he doesn’t. He finally took Jin’s advice and started to be honest with himself.
“I don’t know, really.” Hoseok seems surprised by the answer, he wasn’t expecting Yoongi to be honest, he doesn’t know if he would be if he has been in his friends shoes. Maybe Yoongi would sugar coat it. He is glad he didn’t’.
“must be hard.”
“Yeah. But Jungkook insisted, said it was my chance to see him all dressed up.”
Hoseok laughs, looking for the boy who must have already runned off to meet his father. He should do the same thing.
”Well I have to check on the groom, why don’t you go look for Joonie and Jin hyung? They are here somewhere.”
“Yeah, see you around.”
As Hoseok walked away, Yoongi started to look after familiar faces; the first faces he recognize are from Jimin’s family sitting right in the front. Yoongi loves Jimin’s family but he really doesn’t want to explain what he is there.
At least he didn’t come uninvited.
He sees a shadow running on the back, maybe it’s Jungkook or one of their friends, they are the only people he could think of that could be running on a wedding. Also, he needs to go to the bathroom.
Yoongi had only been to a few weddings, he didn’t really pay attention to the details like the flowers and colors, but this was Jimin’s wedding and he payed attention to anything Jimin related.
The flowers were white and red, some ornaments were baby pink and were all over the place. Yoongi didn’t’ know much about weddings but he knew a lot about Park Jimin, and that’s not something he would want.
Finding the bathroom is easier than he thought.
It’s empty and he thanks whatever god there is for it. The wedding is about to start and he is starting to doubt himself. Of course he knew he was going to face it, Jimin is getting married to someone else, he was just stupid to think he could come and watch it.
He wasn’t planning to stop him, he was going to sit on the back and choke on his tears. Jungkook would be sitting on the front with the rest of his family and friends. He would be alone and ready to leave as soon as Jimin said yes. If he said yes.
That’s a thought he had been cultivating for the last few days. Why would Jimin invite him if not to show how he still loved him and would leave everything for him?
He laughs as he stares at himself in the mirror. Hoseok was right, he does look good.
He washes his hands and he is ready to leave when he hears the small sob. He didn't know there was someone with him in the bathroom, the clearly did a good job on hiding themselves.
“Hey, are you okay?” He asks to whoever is in there.
For a second panic settles into him. Jungkook had been against the marriage ever since the beginning and he did tell him he and he his son-to-be step dad didn’t really get along. What if it was his little boy there?
“Yoongi?” The voice that comes out of the small cubicle is definitely not his son’s.
“Jimin.” He gasps.
Jimin opens the door and he looks exactly like yoongi imagined he would look like when they got married: in a white suit, his hair parted on the middle and wearing that eye makeup that made him look even sexier than he already was. Said makeup was now running down his cheeks.
“Are you okay? Did something happen?” All the months without speaking with each other seemed to fade as Yoongi took Jimin in his arms to hold him.
Jimin starts to cry again, hugging Yoongi like he might disappear if he doesn’t.
“Jimin what happened?”
“I can’t-- I can’t do it!” His face is hidden on Yoongi’s neck, their bodies are completely glued to each other. “I can’t’ marry him.”
Yoongi’s whole body freezes.
It can’t be happening.
“Jimin what-”
“I can’t marry him! I can’t! Please don’t make me do it!” He sounds desperate, hell, he looks desperate.
Yoongi ain't thinking, he feels numb. Jimin is on his arms like he had dreamt all these years and yet he can feel the heat and the confort he so much wished for. He feels cold, like someone has thrown a bucket of water on him.
“Okay, let’s breathe. I won’t make you-” He takes a deep breath. “marry him. But i need you to talk to me, Jimin.”
Jimin nods, his tears are slowly stopping but he still chokes on air. Everything that is happening is too much, for the both of them.
Yoongi sits Jimin on the floor, he knows he might ruin the white suit but he doesn’t care, Jimin might not even get married today. There is a key on the door and Yoongi makes sure to lock it, he knows people will come looking for Jimin and he knows the younger won’t appreciate a bunch of people questioning him. Yoongi is enough.
“Okay, okay.” He says it more to himself than to Jimin. “No one is coming in, you’re safe.”
He sits beside Jimin, both of their backs touching the wall; the room is quiet, Jimin’s small sniffs are the only sound they can hear. It feels like a bubble, just Jimin and Yoongi in their small world.
“I'm not going to ask if you are okay because I can see you're not, but i will have to ask if something happened because if it did…” Because if he hurt you I don’t know what i would do. “Because if it did we need to do something.” He tries to sound calm when he is everything but not.
“Nothing happened, it just- it just doesn’t feel right.” Jimin whispers and Yoongi is surprised he can even speak.
“Okay, that’s good.”
They sit in silence for a while, no words need to be spoken. Jimin is doubting his marriage because it doesn't feel right; was it today or has it been long time coming? Yoongi can’t help but wonder.
He has so many questions he won’t let himself ask. He wonders if Jimin has the answers he is looking for, the answers he wants to hear.
“Yoongi why did you come?”
“I got an invitation.” Jimin looks surprised. Oh. “By the look on your face you didn't know. Well, I came because Jungkook insisted, I wasn't really planning to stay. It still hurts.”
Yoongi had decided, the moment Jimin left the second time, that he would be honest with himself and know he knows he has to be honest with Jimin, too.
“I woke up this morning so sure i was going to get married to a man i love but everytime i think about it, really think about it, it just feel right. It’s like there is something inside of me that is trying to tell me to run and hide.”
It’s guilt, Jimin thinks. Guilt has been eating me whole.
“Yoongi I- I think i have been hiding long enough.”
Jimin has tears in his eyes and Yoongi knows he does to. When they were younger they would joke that they had a connection, if Jimin cried yoongi would too, even if they couldn’t’ see Jimin.
He can see jimn now, can see all of him and he looks so much like he did in the past.
“So what are you going to do?”
Where do we go from here?
“Would you be mad if i said i just want to sit in the bathroom with you right now” He laughs.
Yoongi laughs too but the tears running down his face are a reminder.
We are not there yet.
“You know we can’t…”
“I know but let’s just pretend for a while.”
Jimin is hugging his knees to his chest, making himself smaller so he disappear and just live in this small worlds shaped like a bathroom where he and Yoongi are okay.
I don’t wan’t to pretend.
I want it to be real.
“I never apologize for what I did.” Jimin starts, he doesn't take his face away from his knees; it is taking everything in him to even speak. “For when we broke up.”
Yoongi groans, he is tired of hearing about it. He wishes he could dust it under his imaginary carpet and just forget that it ever happened. That the scars on his heart where just from falling.
“You don’t need to apologize for you feelings.”
“But I need to apologize for my lies.”
If he looks close enough, he can see a small crack on his perfect world.
“That night in the balcony I lied, I lied when I told you we shouldn’t see eachother again an I have been lying to myself for years by trying to convince myself that I don’t love you anymore and that I can marry someone who isn’t’ you. I know apologizing now doesn’t fix things but I want to try to be honest. I’m sorry.”
“Why?” It’s all Yoongi says. It’s all he need to know.
“I knew you were going to propose and give up your career for us.”
“Well Jimin that wasn’t your decision to make.” Yoongi is almost screaming. He can’t believe it, all this years thinking that Jimin left him because he simply didn't love him only for it to be because Jimin loves him way too much.
He wants to scream and cry and laugh and just kiss park Jimin for being so dumb.
“I need to ask you something and I need you to be honest because it might change everything.” Jimin is looking at him with those eyes filled with tears and yoongi had already made his mind. “If you had the chance, would you have done it differently?”
“Yoongi I don’t-”
“If you had the chance, could you let me propose to you?”
Jimin can’t believe what he is hearing.
This is not real.
This is a dream.
“Yes.”
And then Yoongi kisses him.
He missed this, Jimin so close to him, their lips touching and their bodies so close. It feels like coming home after being away for so long.
He missed Jimin’s touch more than he had realized.
There is a knock on the door and their little bubble pop. It is still Jimin’s wedding.
“Jimin are you there?” It’s hoseok’s voice, he sounds worried.
“Yeah. I’m coming, give me a minute.”
“You have been missing for an hour, i’m not giving you a goddamn minute.”
“A minute hyung, I promise.”
They hear Hoseok groan before walking away.
They are still on each other’s arms.
I’m scared that if i let go you will disappear.
Jimin tights his hands around Yoongi’s neck. He knows what he has to do.
“I know things will never be the same but i need you to do something for me.”
“Jimin i don’t-”
“You asked me if I could change how things were and I said yes, now I need to ask you something and I need you to be super upper dupper honest!” Jimin is smiling and Yoongi can’t help but smile too.
“Do you think we can start all over?”
“yes.” He doesn't even think.
He knows they have a lot to talk about and that things are still not okay but if he could, if the world gave him a second chance, he would.
“God, I love you.” And Jimin kisses him again. “ I need you to go outside and wait for me. Don’t ask questions, just do it.”
Jimin walks away from him, dusting his suit and fixing his makeup. He opens the door and Yoongi is so confused.
“What are you doing?”
“I have a wedding to attend.”
...
It’s been a while since they left the bathroom, Yoongi is waiting outside the venue. Namjoon was the only one who saw him leave but Yoongi made him promised he wouldn’t tell a soul.
He doesn't’ know a lot about weddings but he knows this one is taking too long. He feels uneasy. What if Jimin changed his mind? What was Jimin even thinking?
He heard a lot of gasps before the doors opened and a running Jimin came out. Yoongi was ready to ask what the hell happened when Jimin interrupted.
“Hi, I’m Park Jimin, I'm 36 and a nurse, I have a 18 year old son named Jungkook and I'm so in love with you.”
“Do you think we can start all over?”
“yes.”
“My name is Min Yoongi, 38, I also have a son named Jungkook and I love you so so much.”
Jimin kissed him again. He wonders how had he lived without those kisses for so long.
He will never have to wonder that again.
“Jimin.” Someone screams.
“We really need to go because I just said to all my family and friends I was still in love with my ex in the middle of my wedding.”
Yoongi grabs his hand, dragging him to his car so they could run away. Together.
A few months later
Jimin is watching TV while Yoongi makes breakfast, Jungkook’s sleeping on the table. On the TV a show about a wedding and a question pops on Jimin’s head.
“Yoongi, how did you get an invitation to my wedding when i clearly didn’t send it to you.”
“Jungkook brought it to me.”
And then it clicks.
“Jungkook!” They both scream.
The End.
