Chapter Text
Toshinori woke up without the telltale chill going down his spine for the first time in years. In fact, he’s swallowed in warmth, drowning in the depths of skin he was surrounded with. He’s disoriented for a moment as the sun peeks through the tiny gap in the red curtains because he’s never had curtains in his room that were expensive silk, or curtains at all. The smell of sandalwood is fading, but the strong scent of cinders and ash overpowered him. And then Enji shifts, and Toshi’s thrown back into the present reality.
Strong arms were belted at his waist, pulling him against the hard planes of Enji’s chest. He’d never felt safer, more at home so far away from his own bed. His panic from the night before is completely absent from his mind. It’s years away now and now is much better than yesterday. He didn’t stir but rather soaked in the feeling of finally being well-rested, the normal ache in his old bones long gone from his mind. He nuzzles his cheek into the pillow and inches backward to sink into Enji’s front. Instinctively, the other man’s arms coil tighter around him and the slightest shift in his breath could be heard before he sighs and settles into a slightly different position.
Then there's a small vibration. Toshi doesn’t hear it so much as feel it, just a quick reverb on the surface of the covers. Careful not to wake his partner, Toshi cranes he’s neck up to look, and there’s a phone sitting on the bedside table, unplugged, and the screen is flashing. He should really just go back to sleep and enjoy the rest of his morning, but his curiosity is back in full force, and one peek couldn’t hurt anything.
With slow, methodical movements, Toshinori reaches out and grabs the phone tapping once on the screen to get a look at it. It’s a text message. Sent from someone name ‘H’ in Toshinori’s contacts. The ‘H’ had little emoji wings on either side, and he felt that should mean something to him, but it doesn’t ring any bells. Only a part of the message is visible.
“ Can’t wait to see you today, you still getting that wine, right? I was gonna…” Totally innocent, of course. Just a friend wanting to bond over a bottle of wine. Toshi shouldn’t have been worried, he sets the phone back on the nightstand and Enji finally stirs as he did so, a soft hum reverberating through Toshi’s whole body.
“You’re awake already?” He says gruffly through his haze.
Toshinori turns around in his lover’s arms so that they are facing each other, nuzzling his nose into the juncture of Enji’s throat. “Yeah, I’m awake. How’re you feeling?” He reaches up a hand to cup his cheek, running his thumb over the stubble.
“Too much wine, I think.” He yawns and flexes the muscles in his back, grunting when the telltale pops of his spine re-aligning rang out in his ears. “How’re you?”
“I’m good.” He pecks a kiss on the tip of Enji’s nose, “Better than good.” Enji leans into the hand on his cheek, and Toshi realizes that the other man hasn’t opened his eyes yet.
“You want some breakfast?” Enji asks, “I think I have something greasy in there to eat, you like American food right?” Toshinori chuckles.
“Yeah, but I think I wanna stay here for a little bit longer.”

“You’re not eating anything, Izuku.” Katsuki frowned at him from across the counter island, pushing his own yellow lumps of egg around on his plate. Izuku was fervently scrolling through his phone absorbing the latest news with a hand firmly on his chin. It’s been days since he’s been called in for a daytime patrol shift and it was making him a little antsy. “Izuku?” Katsuki pressed, impatiently shoving some of his eggs in his mouth.
“Huh?” He nearly drops the phone as he looks up so quickly. Katsuki, busy chewing his food, points to his husband’s plate. “Oh! Sorry, Kacchan!” He sets his phone down and digs into his breakfast.
Katsuki finishes before Izuku can even get through his eggs, and takes his plate to the sink to wash. “Any updates?” He grunts as he pulls the sponge out from its drawer.
“No,” Izuku says around a mouthful of sausage. “Nothing that the sidekicks and police can’t handle on their own....” He finishes with a sigh, leaning his head in his free hand as he continues to eat.
“You’re actually bored.” Katsuki almost laughs, tossing the cleaned dishes into the dish rack. He walks around the counter and encircles his arms around Izuku’s shoulders, leaning his chin on his head as his husband continues to eat. “What about All Might? Has he responded to you yet?”
“It’s Toshinori, and no, he hasn’t. I don’t think he’s getting my texts, you don’t think something’s going on do you?”
“Weren’t you the one that said not to worry?” Katsuki pressed a kiss to the viridian curls and let his eyes drift closed, enjoying having Izuku captured in his arms.
“But Toshi’s never waited this long to talk… It’s been almost a month now.” He picks up his phone again as he shoves more of the greasy breakfast into his mouth, expertly weaves around the heavy arms settled on his shoulders. “You don’t think Enji’s got him...you know?”
“I know what?” Katsuki grumbles, muffled by the thick curls.
“Well, I mean, he’s a pretty manipulative guy. And it’s not like we know he’s changed since he got that divorce. Don’t you just think we should go and check on Toshi? Just in case?” He tries to meet Katsuki in the eye, to no avail. The blonde furrows his brows as he thinks.
“Shouldn’t we, you know, trust him?”
“It’s not that I don’t trust him Kacchan, it’s just...well, Enji doesn't exactly have a great track record with treating his significant others with common decency.”
