Chapter 11: Family

Chapter Text

Their wedding was perfect. It was small, just their close friends and family.

Bucky had asked Tony if his father would want to be invited. Tony had frowned and shook his head. He explained that when he had told his dad that he was bisexual Tony’s dad had forced him to shake his hand and promise not to attend his funeral. Bucky had hugged him and kissed him soundly and promised to never do that to him or Peter.

They were married in a small park, Peter happily standing next to his dad and beaming up at the two as they promised to love each other and care for their family.

Two days later, however, was the day they all agreed was the happiest day of their lives – even Tony who had always claimed that it was the day Peter was born and nothing would ever top it. This, however, was just a bit better.

“Are you sure about this?” said Bucky.

They were sitting together in their apartment – a new one just for their family to start anew together. It had a small balcony fire escape where Tony had insisted they have a small herb garden for cooking. Peter was in his room reading while the newly married couple were curled up together on the couch together.

“Are you having second thoughts?” said Tony, leaning back with a grin to eye his husband. “Because it’s a little late for that don’t you think? We’re sort of married and it’d been too expensive to divorce now.”

Bucky laughed, shaking his head and wrapping both arms around Tony, pulling him close to kiss him soundly. His mechanical arm that Tony had made him whirled subtly as he moved it. Tony had been working on it and turns out was going to surprise him with it the day Bucky proposed but Bucky had beat him to it on surprises that day. Bucky loved the arm but was also incredibly grateful that he had proposed before Tony could give it to him. He wanted Tony to never doubt that Bucky wanted him for who he was as a person and not what he could give Bucky.

This though, this was an even better gift than giving Bucky a new arm.

“Bucky, I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” said Tony when they finally broke the kiss. “Aside from marrying you, but this is on level with that, so it doesn’t count as more. A fair tie.”

“Then let’s call Peter in an ask him,” said Bucky with a nervous smile.

Tony knew in that moment that he loved Bucky even more than he had a moment before and that love would keep growing as Bucky kept putting Peter first in his life. Peter was, after all, his son.

“Peter, come in here for a moment,” called Tony with a bright smile. He knew Peter was going to love this surprise.

“Yes Daddy?” said Peter, running into the room in his little blue sweatpants and a shirt with a red tractor on it.

“Bucky and I have something to ask you,” said Tony seriously. “It’s a big deal though, so if you need time to think about it after you have it, okay? It won’t hurt our feelings.”

“Okay,” said Peter slowly. “What’s the question?”

“You know that I love you and your daddy very much right?” said Bucky, sounding more nervous than he did when proposing to Tony months before.

“Yeah, you married him,” said Peter with a giggle. “And you tell me like all the time that you love me. Did you learn that from Daddy?”

“I’ve learned a lot from your daddy.”

“He’s a good teacher.”

“You’re stalling,” said Tony kindly, anxiously bouncing in his seat. “I’m going to ask if you don’t.”

“Okay, okay,” said Bucky. “Peter, I love you very much and I would love to adopt you to be your father along with Tony.”

“So like, I would have two daddies?” said Peter, cocking his head to the side much like Tony did when thinking over new information.

“Yes. Your daddy and I would both be your father and we would raise you and love you and legally be a family.”

“If you don’t want Bucky to adopt you that’s fine,” said Tony, wanting to be sure that Peter understood this was his choice.

“Yeah, we will be a family regardless and no sheet of a paper will change that,” said Bucky.

“But if you adopt me, then everyone will know I’m yours right?” said Peter.

“Yes, no one will ever be able to say we aren’t a family,” said Bucky.

“Okay,” said Peter brightly, his little dimples on display. “You can adopt me.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah! Now I get to have two daddys! Daddy always says it’s important to have a buddy because it’s important to always have someone looking out for you. Oh! Can I get a puppy? Then there will be four of us and that’s an even number. Or a brother!”

Tony choked on air at the suggestion of having another child.

“Why don’t we get this adoption finalized before we think about adding anyone else to the family, okay buddy?” said Bucky kindly.

“Okay,” said Peter easily, heading back to his room to keep reading. “But it’ll probably have to be a brother, Daddy said he doesn’t want to train a puppy.”

Notes:

The end! There we go, a nice, mostly fluffy, fic for everyone to have because we all need fluffy comfort sometimes. Let me know of any new ideas for stories you want. I'm bored.

Always,
