Chapter 6: Lonely

Chapter Text

Bakugo was angry. The nerd knew exactly what he was talking about and no one could convince him otherwise.

He was right, of course.

Izuku knew what Bakugo meant, but it didn’t really matter. He was looking for a fight, be it verbal or physical.

And a fight he would get, at all costs.

And yet, despite Izukus behavior, Bakugo didn’t move an inch. The shorter boy grit his teeth. “What’s wrong, Ba-ku-go?” He asked, stressing each syllable in the other's name.

In an instant, most of the addressed boys’ anger was replaced by confusion. Izuku had never called him Bakugo before. Not a single goddamn time. What the hell was going on?

Bakugo still didn’t move. So Izuku continued. “Tell me! What is it that led the great Bakugo Katsuki, number one hero in the making, to visit me and ask for my, useless Deku’s, wellbeing?”

The blond was confused. He didn’t understand. Why was Deku acting like that?

Izuku's anger was slowly spreading, like poison. And he said the next words sweet and innocent, like they weren’t meant to make Bakugo explode- literally and figuratively.

“Or could it be that you aren’t so great after all? Maybe you’ll be better in your next life.”

Bakugo, who originally visited Izuku because he, admittedly, was put off and a bit concerned (even though he would never admit that) by the green-haired boys behavior, was angry. He never had a good grip on his seemingly uncontrollable anger.

In a way Izuku was similar.

In a way he was not.

Bakugos anger was explosive and bright, like fire. It was always there, had always been there, and it was running through Bakugos veins like his blood.

Izuku's anger was dark. It was usually quietly sitting somewhere at the bottom of his stomach, rising up to his chest whenever something happened to set it off. At times it spread through his body too, like this time, almost like One for All did, when he used the quirk.

_________

Todoroki was mildly concerned for Izuku, when Bakugou went up to his room.

Todoroki was slightly more concerned when he heard Bakugo yelling angrily, after some time of dead quiet.

Todoroki was really worried when he heard explosions and what might’ve been furniture being thrown around in the room above the common room, which he assumed was Midoriyas.

Todoroki was a little bit panicking when it fell silent again in an instant, after only a few minutes. A few very long minutes in which everything and nothing could've happened.

So, he decided to investigate.

___________

Izuku groaned in pain, but so did Bakugo. But while Izuku’s anger had worn off just as fast as it had rosen and its place was taken by regret, Bakugou’s rage still burned like a fire in his eyes. They both knew that if he could continue to attack, Bakugou would.

But as it was now, he couldn’t.

____________

Todoroki was shocked when he entered Midoriya's room. Furniture was scattered across the room, a shelf laid on Bakugou's legs and Midoriya was sitting with his back to the wall opposite Bakugou. There were burns and ash everywhere. Both were barely conscious.

So what was he supposed to do but call a teacher?

______________

When Aizawa found out that problem child and angry problem child had apparently tried to fight each other to death in a goddamn dorm room, he was concerned. Why would they do something like this? Bakugo was violent but played by the rules and Izuku... well, was Izuku. So what happened?

Whatever it was, it must’ve been drastic to make his students break character like this.

Of course he didn’t show it, but he was really concerned. Because what on earth could have happened to cause this?

_____________

When Izuku managed to regain full consciousness, he was already in recovery-girls office for a while, maybe half an hour, surrounded by the curtains that had been pulled together around his bed. He heard someone talking nearby, a background noise that began soon after he arrived, but he didn’t want to put in the effort and actually listen anymore. He’d tried in the first few minutes, but wasn’t able to clearly understand anything anyway, so why try?

Instead, he beat himself up over how stupid he’d been, provoking Kacc- Bakugo like that. And then actually fighting back.

He regretted it with every inch of his being. Just why hadn’t he stopped in time?

Bakugo had had genuine intentions. He really had. So why did he, Deku, have to ruin it?

...Maybe he deserved it.

“You deserve it.” reassured the voices, that were actually just his own thoughts.

And the fact that he did, he really did, hurt and tore at his insides, and Izuku felt empty once more, now that the anger was gone. Nothing. Just empty.

He just layed there, silent, in his bed. He layed there, looking up at the white ceiling, feeling like he was the only one in the world. And he felt vulnerable. Vulnerable to himself. Vulnerable to his thoughts. Vulnerable to everything anyone else might say or think, like he would turn to ash and dust the second some acknowledged he was there.

Izuku felt like nothing.

And he didn’t dare to form a single thought.

He didn’t dare to think about what he said.

He didn’t dare to think about what he did.

He didn’t dare to think of the destruction in his dorm room.

And he didn’t dare to think about what Aizawa would say.

...what All Might would say.

And silently, in between all of the emptiness, he felt lonely.

Being lonely hurt more than being empty.

Izuku felt the cold in his chest that seemed to suffocate him.

He was lonely.

They wouldn’t understand. They wouldn’t get what he was trying to say when he explained. It was his fault, and it wasn’t. But they wouldn’t get it.

No one would ever get it.

So although he wasn't alone, he would always be lonely.

And silently, he sobbed. Just another background noise. Nobody would notice.

If someone breaks, and no one hears, do they make a sound?
