Chapter Text
-3
Another new semester. Jeon Jungkook’s sitting in the third lecture of his General Education class, half regretting his choice of art history. The amount of content that needs to be covered is going to kill him, if his physics degree doesn’t end him first–
“–does anyone have an answer for that? How about you, third row on the edge with the beret—ah right, Kim Taehyung.”
Kim Taehyung? Isn’t that the guy who is already having his paintings displayed in galleries? The one who works with oils? So that’s what—holy shit. (This is where Jungkook’s brain seemingly stopped working. One could practically hear the cogs in his head jamming after turning heart shaped.)
“–Yoongi-hyung! Are you even listening?” Jungkook is perched on the side of the elder’s desk, watching him working on… something.
“Hmm. You are convinced he is the potential love of your life?”
“Well, maybe not in so many words, but I certain hope something will bloom. I mean, the way his voice rolls so smoothly is just…”
Yoongi returns to his work(?) as Jungkook rambles on.
.
(And so, two-thirds of the semester passes by. Jungkook makes sure to attend every single art history lecture in order to ogle/observe/lovingly gaze at Kim Taehyung understand every aspect of the syllabus so he can pass the course with an A+. Yes, that’s the reason.)
(Yes.)

Over the past two months (but mostly within the past, oh I don’t know, day), Jeon Jungkook has learned the following things.
- Kim Taehyung’s birthday is on the 30th of December (from Kim Taehyung’s SNS, not at all obtained from other questionable sources).
- Park Jimin, his roommate’s boyfriend (and by extension, now a very good friend of Jungkook), is best friends with Kim Taehyung.
- Min Yoongi has no right to act annoyed by Jungkook’s various rants. (
Specifically, about Kim Taehyungs eyes or hands or aura or… you get the picture.) (Which is why Jungkook continues to vent his ~feelings~ to him.)
Jungkook, however, did not know that Kim Taehyung would visit the 500s section of the campus library. Especially since the 500s contains books about natural sciences, and Kim Taehyung’s degree is quite possibly one of the furthest things from the natural sciences. (Okay, so maybe young Jungkook had memorised all the sections of the Dewey decimal system to the point where he could recite them in his sleep, but that doesn’t develop his relationship with a certain person, so we can shelve that thought.)
Still, Jungkook does not complain, because everybody could benefit with more Kim Taehyung in their lives.
“–I understand that brown and forest green are colours associated with grandpas, but how can he pull that combination off so effortlessly?” Jungkook is sitting on the closed toilet seat as Yoongi brushes his teeth. “Does colour theory not apply…”
And he continues.
Yoongi stares at the younger, but he doesn’t seem to notice. (Well obviously not, his eyes have practically turned into hearts, after all.)
Yoongi sighs and rinses his mouth.
.
(“Please, JK. I’m begging you. Let me sleep.”)
(He did not, in fact, let Yoongi sleep. Well, not in peace, anyway.)
-1
This marks the 10th time Jungkook has seen Kim Taehyung in the 500s section in the past two weeks. He knows Kim Taehyung doesn’t need to be here, but he doesn’t bother to dwell on why the other comes to the section so often. Especially not when he also knows that he needs to finish this damned report on particle accelerators.
Jungkook thinks he must have saved thousands of people in his last life, because Kim Taehyung sits directly opposite him two rows away, giving him unlimited chances to ogle that beautiful, beautiful face as he attempts to prepare himself for his next lectures.
Except it’s not really about his looks anymore. Hasn’t been for quite a while now. Jungkook has seen for himself how hard Kim Taehyung works, both in class and in their impromptu study dates meetings in the library. Jungkook knows Kim Taehyung (in the least creepiest way possible), and he knows he is royally fucked because he is falling in love faster than atoms in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which is a really shitty analogy, but it’s the best his heart-shaped-physics-crammed braincells could come up with at the moment.
But still. Call him shallow, but what a beautiful face it is.
“What a beautiful face,” Jungkook sighs.
He’s lying on Yoongi’s bed after a particularly passionate session as the elder sits at his desk, typing away at some document(?), doing whatever it is that musical geniuses do in the evenings.
“That’s the twelfth time you’ve said that. Please stop. I’m starting to think you’re a broken record player again. I will pawn you off to some second-hand store.”
“It’s not nice to call Namjoon-hyung a second-hand store, hyung.”
“Brat.”
“Geezer.”
(But like, affectionately.)
.
(One of Newton’s lesser known laws that I totally didn’t just pull out of my ass is as follows:
‘Two snarks in proximity of one another for extended periods of time will not cause each other to diminish in strength. Instead, snarkiness is amplified as both snarks adapt and evolve in attempts to out-snark the other.’)
(Such is the dynamic between the two inhabitants of the room.)
0 (the +1, really)
Yoongi is capital-D-o-n-e Done. Finished. At the end of his wits and patience. Okay, he understands that maybe if he and Jimin had introduced Jungkook to Kim Taehyung earlier, he wouldn’t have to suffer. However, Yoongi is not the type of person to meddle in other people’s love affairs, and Jimin is the type of person to sit back and laugh at his friends’ struggles.
And yet it has come down to this. If that cute little brat rants to him one more time about Taehyung’s nose mole or whatever, he will have to force Jimin to stage an intervention.
It’s to the extent that even Yoongi himself is ready to stage an intervention.
In fact, he’ll do that right now. He’ll take matters into his own hands and stage that intervention, all by himself. Well. Mostly by himself. He’ll need to recruit Jimin to handle the other end, obviously, and maybe he’ll involve–no, not Namjoon, at least not directly.
It’s perfect. Especially since the baby isn’t heading to the library to creep on his boyfriend’s best friend/roommate today. Apparently, his boss has plans in the afternoon, and had called Jungkook to watch the store after his lectures and to take the flower arranging class that Yoongi and Jimin had enrolled in a few weeks ago.
Hmmm. Flowers. Yes, that could work.
“Oi. Just giving you a heads up, I have to take Namjoon’s tutorial class. I’m not going today. Jimin might bring a friend though, so don’t be surprised to not see your favourite hyung in your flower arranging class.” Yoongi haangs up without listening to Jungkook’s reply.
Although Taehyung is technically Jungkook’s favourite hyung. He just hasn’t realised it.
(Yes, Yoongi is totally fine with not being Jungkook’s favourite hyung. Yep. Just fine. No denial whatsoever. Jungkook is not his child at all. Mm hmm.)
Time to sort things out on Jimin’s end. But first, Namjoon.
‘I’m coming to your tutorial class’ Yoongi texts.
‘Ok, see you’
Short and simple, no questions asked. (This is why Yoongi likes texting Namjoon. He replies quickly, unlike Jungkook.)
Yoongi may be scheming, but he is not a liar, so the tutorial thing is technically true now.
Lastly.
‘Babe it’s intervention time’
‘Convince Taehyung to go to that flower arranging class with you, tell him I’m taking Namjoon’s tutorial’
‘Jungkook is teaching today’
‘Use force if necessary’
Jimin replies with: ‘got it’, followed by an obscene amount of winking emojis.
Satisfied with his plans, he smirks. Hopefully after today, one of them will grow some balls and get on with it.
A pair of whining, pining idiots.
.
(Later, a snippet of a conversation between Yoongi and Jimin:
“I can’t believe you staged the intervention without me forcing you! Who are you and what did you do to my Yoongi? The one I know never puts so much effort into doing things for others!”
“…”)
+1 (an extra scene)
“What do I do?!” Jungkook is pacing Yoongi’s room. “How can I possibly ask him out properly?”
“For fuck’s sake, make him a bouquet and take him to a restaurant or something. I’m seriously going to pass you off to Namjoon if you don’t stop wearing down my rug.”
“Hyung, you’re a genius! So this is the power of the old and wise!”
Yoongi just stares at him.
.
(Just when Yoongi thought it would be over, a new era begins, and history repeats itself.)
